Where does Sony fit in todays landscape???

I've always felt that the split is like this

Care about primarily western games? Get an Xbox
Care about a good mix of Japan/USA games? Get a PlayStation
Care about only Japanese? Get a Nintendo.

and if you care about doing IT work all the time for free, get a PC

I'm sorry, is the gen over yet? Did it reach more than 117 million units? No? Them wait before saying anything.
Right now all the have is a very close margin to the PS4, falling behind at times and going ahead at times, it won't ever sell the same amount at this point.
Kindly bugger off

They are at the top and deservedly, so quit with the semantics. They’re competing with themselves at this point.

Sony is still on top but what could be Sony's next move after Switch 2 unveiling and June launch? I really hope for price cut for both base Ps5 and ps5 pro. And more AA games especially reviving OG PS JRPG and action games or even those niche Sony games in the past.

Lol. Yeah they're going down in flames, bud.

Xbox has already been nonstop winning for decades now btw. The masses are just too dumb to see it, right?
Never said that. I own 2 ps5s so I'm not talking shit. This has been the narrative regarding MS putting games everywhere. I'm just asking the same about Sony that this particular forum has asked of MS. What's the point when the games can be had on PC. Based on the triggered responses, PS primary gamers aren't happy.

But it's all good to shit on MS for doing the exact same thing.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not interested in playing on PC. And judging by the amount of people playing on consoles, I'm far from alone. As for the narrative surrounding Xbox, being able to play games on PC is not the only factor for the decline in their hardware sales (it may not even be a particularly important one). I'd say a large issue is that the brand has never had world wide appeal. Then there was stuff like this:

Plus various other issues not shared by Sony or Nintendo. You asked what sets Sony apart - imo, it's global appeal, games, features, a history of reliability, and the ecosystem. I don't see that changing because you can play some of their games on PC or because MS releases a new device. Time will tell, I suppose.

Idk... It's technically another walled garden. It has a decreasing value as a platform in an age where multiplatform games becomes gradually more prominent.

(With that said, I personally like its Japanese origin and wouldn't want them to go away).

With Switch 2s reveal and MS's rumored PC steam handheld giving gamers access to Gamepass and Sony 1st through steam, where does this leave Sony?

Why buy PS when their games can be had on Steam along with Gamepass? Nintendo has always been fine on their own. What sets Sony apart from their competitors?

Will gamers flock to the 3 in 1 Xbox pc hybrid? 3 in1 meaning Gamepass, steam and through steam Sony.

I don't have the answer but it'll interesting to see how things unfold.
Absolute delusion. Have you seen the reception yo Switch 2? Dumpster fire.
As for a Xbox Hybrid quandary, for one IF Xbox release some kind of Hybrid and you can access Steam on it, All Playstation games not specifically published on Xbox will be blocked so no Xbox wont suddenly have access to God of War or Returnal etc.
As for where this leaves PS, it leaves them exactly where they are, the leading platform in the console space with exclusives that you might…JUST might get to play on PC a year or two later.
Nintendo will be fine, they dont deserve it after the Switch 2 crap but Nintendo fans have a habit of ignoring all their bullshit so it is what it is.

About in the same place where it was?
PC is in a league of its own (and it is quite nice that PC owners don't need to buy a PS to play 4 games over a console lifecycle now) so the only real competition is happening between various console platforms.
PS5 has all games and their own 1st party which is very similar to how things were since PS1. If they'll manage to keep their market share with PS6 it will be the same outcome again.
Switch (even 2) is a "secondary" device to those who want to play "big AAA" releases so it's not actually competing with PS or Xbox as much as people think.
Xbox is the platform with the biggest question mark over itself as there doesn't seem to be any reason to choose it over PS at the moment.

They've got the normie crowd covered. Bascially what thye've always been. The place to play GTA, Madden, FIFA, and Call of Duty. And for the tech-stupid crowd. You know, the guys who always try to play on PC but spend 9 hours "updating drivers".

Oh and interactive movies.

As a pc guy at heart, I love my 4090 but I just like Sonys ecosystem alot, I love trophies more than achievements... Something about a Final platinum just resonates with me as Im a stats guy and enjoy seeing my gaming journeys and gettin that sweet platinum. But I buy everything, I'll pc game when I want, Ill buy a switch 2, I own a rog ally x, got my pro... I go where I feel and some games I want to go balls deep on graphics but I'm also ancient now and just drop down in my big chair grab my ps5 controller and go.

Yep that's where I'm at too. I'm a father of two young boys, in my 40's and work full time hours. I don't have the time anymore for PC gaming. Console gaming 'just works' and suits my lifestyle. I realise I'm giving up superior visuals, mods, etc, but the trade off's are worth it to me.
