Where does Sony fit in todays landscape???

MS’s “handheld” we’ve seen UI images of is just a damn PC. Could have made this thread 2 years ago when Sony started releasing games there.

So confused why people don’t understand that most console gamers, get this, like consoles and they want to continue to play games…on consoles.

PlayStation is the premier console for their games as well as the majority of 3rd party games and that’s not going to change because MS licenses the Xbox logo to Asus to make handheld PCs.

With Switch 2s reveal and MS's rumored PC steam handheld giving gamers access to Gamepass and Sony 1st through steam, where does this leave Sony?

Why buy PS when their games can be had on Steam along with Gamepass? Nintendo has always been fine on their own. What sets Sony apart from their competitors?

Will gamers flock to the 3 in 1 Xbox pc hybrid? 3 in1 meaning Gamepass, steam and through steam Sony.

I don't have the answer but it'll interesting to see how things unfold.

Leaves Sony exactly where they have been. Sony's Steam games on handhelds have been around for quite a while now. Is something supposed to change because one of those handhelds suddenly has Xbox branding? Switch 2 still won't play the vast majority of games that are popular on PlayStation. So again....what has changed?

You mention Game Pass twice. If people want that sub service, it's been available since 2017. I find it remarkable that there are still people who don't understand that it's not an attractive service to many people. As for the rest of your post, Sony is for people who like playing on console, like Sony first-party, and enjoy their ecosystem or some combination of those. I realize that's basic common sense, but it seems it's needed here.

huh?

how does it being most popular on PC mean it can't be people on Playstation?

That's not the point. You made the following statements:

problem is you have a lot of idiots who recently invested $700 on a Sony console when they should have just put it towards a PC.

they're just going to keep pretending they enjoy their poorly optimized GaaS slop. its no wonder their most popular recent title is a GaaS filled to the rim with micro transactions (Monster Hunter)

I'm just pointing out how your post isn't logical or grounded in reality in the first place.

What you're failing to realise is the fact that GAAS titles are more popular on PC. So unfortunately, based on your logic, the people who game on PC are also "idiots" who "pretend" they enjoy "poorly optimised GAAS slop".

Which begs the question, which platform(s) do you think all the non-idiot smart gamers reside on?

are you suggesting it isn't hugely popular on PS5? you are deeply out of touch if that is what you think

Nope, read above.

the answer is simple: Sony doesn't fit in today's landscape. just look how they fucked up everything with FromSoft

problem is you have a lot of idiots who recently invested $700 on a Sony console when they should have just put it towards a PC. because of this they're very unlikely to admit there is a problem.

they're just going to keep pretending they enjoy their poorly optimized GaaS slop. its no wonder their most popular recent title is a GaaS filled to the rim with micro transactions (Monster Hunter)

That's a shit take my man. I have a PC and Pro so now I'm an idiot? You explain to me then what problem I have that I can't admit to?

I was telling people to get a PC so they aren't locked in with Sony. I literally say that in my first post on it in this thread.

You have access to way more games on PC than you do on a Playstation 5.

You have a PC though. My point is I don't understand why someone would pick a ps5 pro over a PC.

I do think people are idiots if they don't have a PC and spend $700 on a console. that is my own personal belief though, doesn't mean it is the objective truth.

And now games will cost $80 :messenger_grinning:

Sony is great if you're like me, someone who isn't interested in maintaining a PC rig but also wants access to modern games and VR, Portal too for that matter.

I own a Switch and have maybe used it for 2 hours, Astral Chain. I bought it for my wife but she rarely plays it either.

I stick with Sony because I like their hardware, dual sense, portal, PSVR2. I don't buy Sony first party games, outside of something like Ronin. Internal Sony studios don't interest me and they don't offer much these days.

Sony isn't going anywhere but I'm curious how long their first party strategy will hold out. How much money are they making off these tent people pole releases? How much patience do people have? There are clearly more PS5s in homes that didn't buy these first party games than there are PS5s whose owners bought those first party titles.

My hope is that Sony Studios decline and 3rd party sales remain solid. Gives Sony time to change leadership and have their studios make games that aren't catered to people who binge Netflix series on the side.

huh? I primarily retro game. my PC is old.

I'm not chasing the new titles / the best graphic though. people who paid money for a ps5 pro are literally seeking the "very best" graphic experience, per the many posts on this forum.

those people should NOT be locking in with Sony. also you surely aren't arguing that Sony consoles offer the same amount of gaming options as PC...?
People who buy the Pro are seeking the "very best" graphic experience with all the conviences of a console.

Ok cool. Why aren't you on PC then?
I have a bit of trouble getting most modern games to "click" with me. I think it is honestly more of a me problem than anything, but there are very few titles that that come out nowadays that really excite me.

it isn't really a matter of me needing to find indie games. indie games are great and all, but for some reason I've found myself drawn to older PS/xbox games lately.

edit: My pc isn't powerful enough to emulate PS3 games I don't think, so I tend to game on OG hardware

The reasons people want consoles over PC are well-documented. If they want to spend a couple hundred dollars more for a better experience then does not make them an idiot.

You're not answering my question.

Let me ask it in a different way:

Why did you spend in excess of $500 on an Xbox Series X + peripherals instead of getting a PC?

You should be paying to post after that comment.

You might as well say…

“Yeah, why would anyone want to play GTA 6 day 1 on the best performing console in the world?”

My point is I don't understand why someone would pick a ps5 pro over a PC.

Because they prefer a controller interface. Or the aren't familiar with PC UI. Or they are familiar but they don't like it. Or they don't want to deal with the hassle of inflated PC parts and just want to buy something that has everything in the box. Or they don't want to deal with the used PC parts market in order to get something decent for cheaper. Or they want to access comfy couch gameplay the easier way. Or they have more friends that play on PS than on PC. Or a lot of other valid reasons.

I have a PC? It’s just old compared to a lot of the people here

It can still play anything, just not maxed out

Series x is my first xbox ever, so I’ve been exploring the older Xbox games for the first time ever

Also have ps1-4

Does that answer your questions?

And no, it doesn't answer my question. So I'll ask again:

Why did you spend $500+ on an Xbox Series X instead of putting that money towards a new PC or upgrading your old (your words) PC?

It's clear that you have one. But clearly not one that's capable of playing modern titles to an adequate level. If not you wouldn't be playing those games on an Xbox Series X.

So again, why didn't you put the money you spent on your Xbox Series X towards your current PC or a new PC? Didn't you have a certain choice of words for people who do the very thing that you did?

Looks like it's only a problem when the "idiots" buy Sony consoles instead of playing on PC. :messenger_expressionless:

I'd say that still Sony keeps winning by default (no other publisher is able to bring us something a quarter as bold as Death Stranding 2) but still their output this gen has been pretty poor

People will type this shit outta like ghost of yotei and ds2 aren't going to do numbers. They will fuck around and have a big sale around switch 2 launch. And god help you all if they have a gta6 bundle. That earnings report will look so crazy they will build a statue of Herman hulst that will have all of neogaf sick.

you're losing your mind because I insulted your precious Sony. take a deep breath brother.

I said in my first post that people who want the very best graphics are idiots for spending $700 instead of getting a PC.

I also said I play primarily retro games and never owned an xbox. how does it not make sense why I would buy an xbox?

also you make it sound like my PC is a 90s calculator or something. my laptop can even play them at an adequate level. my laptop is a Zephyrus g16 which is slightly slower than my PC, both of which are plenty fast for the sort of games I clearly said I play, which are older titles.

but fuck dude, my g16 can play brand spanking new titles and they still look great

edit: it's fucking hilarious that you are looking back through 4 years of my posts to make your point though lol. this is sad dude, you are better than this

edit2: holy fuck you have 44 THOUSAND posts, I was wondering how you have the time to go back years of my posts... 😬

Imagine to even think that Sony (the only high-end console on market that matters) is in some kind of trouble in the year:
- With two AAA SP exclusive games and both esteemed PS4 franchises
- With MS basically porting all of their core games to PS5 with great pre-orders (Indiana is just around the corner)
- With GTA VI firmly looming over the second half of the year

Where does Sony fit in todays landscape??? Really?
