Why do you need a stand for the Playstation 5 if it stands up by itself

I had a problem because I was led to believe it makes a difference for cooling while actually there aren't even any vents down there. So it really doesn't matter.

Because it can fall over without a stand, and it looks ugly. However, the stand makes it look less ugly.

Doesn't bother me personally, but I'd guess people would like to have additional stability when in the vertical position. Could prove useful in the event something unexpected happens like an earthquake or someone bumping into a shelf it's resting on.
Yeah, if a earthquake happened, the first thing I would think about is if my ps5 is still standing!

But seriously, these stands are probably quite a huge source of income for Sony. They've been making them since the ps2, and they're obviously dirt cheap to make.
Selling them is easy money.

If there's an earthquake I think you've got bigger things to worry about.

If you aren't in a situation were it can get knocked down and broken then you probably don't need it.

Personally i'd avoid directly buying the stand from from sony, decent cheaper alternatives out there.

Why are people acting like PS5 is the first console with an optional vertical stand? I really don't remember such discussion from PS4 or PS3 or earlier generations..
Exactly. Including slim and pro models there's been about a dozen Playstation styles since PS2 and only 1 came with a vertical stand and that was the convertible-style in the PS5. I'm pretty sure people complained about the stand around launch but I don't remember what they were complaining about.

Not really. Been through plenty of earthquakes, especially in the Philippines where my wife's family lives. Nothing serious ever happens, but things in the house have fallen over before.

saintjules recommended ordering a third party stand from aliexpress. Received mine yesterday and the quality is much higher than expected. No need to worry about the Pro falling down and especially no need to give Sony 30 bucks.

Didn't PS5 have problems with some component risking sliding down if put vertical? I won't take any chances so mine PS5 will be horisontal always.

i had ordered a stand but cancelled it. my PS5 has been standing in the same spot since the day i bought it and i have 3 cats. that thing ain't falling over.

you might be thinking of the liquid metal ?

it's not really an issue. the PS5 has been out almost 4 years now and there are plenty of people using it vertically.

also, the PS5 has a "cushion" around the processor so that the metal can't contact the board. liquid metal has been used in PCs (which the CPU sits vertically) for longer than PS5 has been around.

I think it was a brilliant idea from Sony to make PS5 modular. I hope PS6 will remain the modularity, but will not require a stand.
Yeah sure. The PS6 won't require a stand because Sony hates to sell overpriced plastic garbage stands and doesn't need money.🤣😂🤦

Why do you need an attractive girl if any hole will do?

You don't need it. It's completely optional.

PS5 / PS5 Pro can be placed horizontally or vertically without a stand perfectly fine.

You see certain people criticize taking out a redundant stand because they need something to complain about. Simple as that.

I think a far better question is why did PlayStation have to make everything white as default, when black is far cooler/discrete. Yet more plates for me to buy at some point...

Unironically the PS5 needs a stand when it's positioned horizontally more than it does vertically. That fucker wobbles like a bitch when plugging anything into the USB because of its ridiculous shape.

It doesn't even need one then. I plug in the charging controller and move on. It barely moves.

So it stands more. Also it is a nice inheritance from the goat

I used my Ps5 vertically for the entire first year before realizing you are supposed to use the stand lol, I just assumed the stand was only if you wanted to use it horizontally

It should come with a stand, with that said....I never used mine for any of my PS5s and I won't be getting one for the PS5 Pro.
