Has the PS5 already cemented itself as the worst Playstation generation in history?

It was announced/made public in 2019 already:

"In an interview, Shawn Layden, chairman of Sony's game studios worldwide, said exclusive titles will still be a part of the company's strategy, but that some games — particularly multiplayer titles designed to be played on personal computers — may see broader distribution. 'We must support the PlayStation platform — that is non-negotiable,' Layden said. 'That said, you will see in the future some titles coming out of my collection of studios which may need to lean into a wider installed base.'

Multiplayer (most likely cancelled GaaS projects), not single-player ones.

Who's being disingenuous here?

You expected this scale of ports at the time? I remember that Sony fanboys were super triggered when more ports were announced. When I bought PS5 I only knew about HZD being released on PC, I missed the news about DG. Still, this was all few years old PS4 games. At the time no PS5 game was ported.

Absolutely. They literally bought Nixxes in July 2021...

And what after that?

The PS2's and PS3's architecture made for more difficult and thus expensive ports. So naturally that would be de-prioritized.

Once PS4 went x86, it opened things up to games being ported again for relatively small money/resources/time.

Metal Gear Solid 2 came to PS2 in 2001. A year later it came to Xbox. 4 months later it came to PC. Ports were harder back then. The PC port has a metacritic score of 77...

Metal Gear Solid 4 never came to PC, despite Metal Gear Solid HD Collection coming to PC and Xbox 360.

PS4 was x86 since 2013 but first PC ports started happening in 2020...

"We do believe in generations, and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5."

It's factually correct:

", and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used..."

Probably good to point out that statement makes no mention of games.

Everything h said here is related to PS5 specific features not PS5 exclusive games...

You're really struggling with reading what people write/say...

Really? And what does that mean? Business apps?

I thought consoles were made for video games.

And Sony to this date aren't doing day and date games for most games on PC, but they have gone back and ported several PS4 games.

Early PS4 games despite people thinking was so great (it wasn't) aren't largely worth porting.

Day's Gone came out in 2019 and hit PC 2 years later.
Horizon came out in 2017 and hit PC 3 years later.

The only pre-2017 release that Sony has put on PC has been Uncharted 4. Why hasn't Sony ported the games from 2013-2015?

I shudder at your comprehension here.

He's talking about a generational leap in features that are exclusive to PS5 not games themselves being exclusive. Everything he mentioned was a feature. Wild that you don't understand the sentence structure here. Either that or you're trolling... which is it?

Everyone that doesn't praise Sony and PS5 is trolling according to you.

3D audio is not exclusive either, and the PS5 SSD is not really being utilized to its full potential (judging by the Ratchet PC port).

But hey, SDF fanboys gotta gaslight others and defend Jim Ryan to death, even though they're unpaid "employees". ;)

Sad nerds...

No where does it mention generation exclusive games here... I don't think you have to praise Sony, but you're actively a disingenuous poster.

Miles Morales is listed here for example and that was always going to be crossgen.

Of course this is bullshit and disingenious.

A Dualsense plugged in a PC? It does the same things as on PS.

And definitely he talked about features but more importantly the subtext is games only possible on PS5 and we all know how it turned out to be.

Jesus christ... you're conflating two things now. Exclusive and generational... which is it?

None of the things listed work on PS4... that's what Jim Ryan is referring to and yet you're now moving the goalposts and saying generational means exclusive?

Yeah, please put me on ignore, I think I'll be doing the same.

Honestly, the hypocrisy and the double standards of some people are astounding.

When Sony announces their next-gen PS6 strategy (2 SKUs, with the cheaper one being roughly equal to PS5 Pro in horsepower and the bigger one costing more than PS5 Pro), many SDF fanboys will defend it to death, even though they were heavily criticizing Microsoft's XBOX Series S.

It was about "believing in generations" and those features were in relation to PS5 vs PS4.

You double down on your illiteracy?

Interesting you bring up the 2 SKU strat as I believe that's a strong possibility as well but likely one a handheld unless you are thinking 2 separate consoles

PS5 makes the most money therefore it has to be the best console ever just like Fortnite makes the most money which proves it’s the best game ever /sarcasm

Mobile tech will not be able to offer PS5 Pro performance any time soon, not even in 2027-2028.

Judging by Nintendo Switch 2, modern mobile tech is closer to PS4+ performance and that's with nVidia tech. AMD is a bit behind.

They could potentially release a portable console close to PS4 Pro (even OG PS5 is a stretch) in 2027-2028, but that means they would have to dial down AAA production values (and many people wouldn't like that).

If Sony switches (pun intended) to a Nintendo-like strategy, they'll be tied to cross-gen development forever and by that I mean the baseline will be lower than an XSS-style console (PS6 Lite > Switch 2).

It's a good machine, but the games coming out are mostly disappointing in my opinion. This focus on open world titles with checkbox gameplay is so fucking boring. I'm also massively underwhelmed by all these souls likes style character action games.

Where the hell are all the 8-12 hour campaign games with multiplayer modes now? It's either live service or open world shit.

I still believe PS5 is doable.

It just won't be cheap.

The only reason I don't like bringing up the sales data is (for me) the PS5 and especially the Pro is the best place to play console games like the big games Fortnite and COD and the yearly sports titles not the mention the PS5 with the controller truly felt like a next gen console when it launched compared to the Series

But, and again this is personal preference I haven't cared for the first party games as compared to other generations
