PS5 generation worst? You kidding? It's Best (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Remind me, in which generation were the most popular online games available for free? I'm talking about Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legeds, Destiny 2, Genshin Impact... All are available from the console launch for free (╯°□°)╯

Remind me, in which generation was the PS Plus subscription available with a ton of games? (╯°□°)╯

Remind me, which generation had the best start, where were the games of this level Astro Playroom, Demon's Souls Remake, Spider-Man Miles Morales? (╯°□°)╯

The same number of 85+ PS games from Sony as in the previous generation ヽ(°□° )ノ

+ Backward Compatibility
+ DualSense
+ Fast Loading
+ 60 fps in new games, which was previously only available on high-end PCs for thousands of dollars
+ Even Xbox releases on PS5, something that didn't exist before.

And so many cool games, a huge number, yes, some were released for the previous generation, but on the new one they play with brighter colors. Some are available by subscription, some are free, some are $70 (which, adjusted for inflation, is less than $60 in the PS4 era). There's never been so much and so much available in any other generation ヽ(°□° )ノ

There has never been such abundance (¯▿¯)

I really don't understand what else is needed to be happy. Because there are more reasons for this now than there were in any previous generation. The problem is definitely not in the generation, but in the people. And I think they are not to blame for this problem. They just watch various swindlers on YouTube who whip up negativity, engage in populism and create falsehoods for the sake of views. This kind of destructive content creates false impressions ¯\_(°~°)_/¯

Get rid of this kind of content and doomscrolling from your life, get out of your post-pandemic depression and enjoy gaming, there are more opportunities for this now than all time before (¯▿¯)

I recall people having the exact same reaction regarding the PS4. "No game to play", "everything is a remaster or a remake", etc.

PS4's best years were between 2018 and 2020 (God of War, Spider-man, Death Stranding, Last of Us II, Ghost of Tsushima to name a few), we'll see how the PS5's library will be in 2028.

So since we are in 2025 indeed it's the worst generation up to this point? (Voted PS3)

Actually based, but PS Vita was a strong contender with Everybody's Golf 6 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss (AND Wipeout 2048 under a Western perspective).
PS Vita and PS5 had the best PlayStation launch lineups.

Hardly, lots of great games (Miles Morales, Ragnarok, GT7, Spider-man 2, Astrobot, FF7 Rebirth to name a few), all in 60fps and great image quality.

Nowhere near PS3's 640p@20fps for most games up until this point.

Would've voted PS3 as well, Uncharted 3 and God Of War III are one of my favourite games ever, but the technical quality of the other games is barely tolerable.

Honestly, yea it absolutely is. For most of my adult life I've split my time 50/50 between PS and PC, but the past several years, I've barely touched my PS5.

The bottom line is that if Playstation 5 is your primary place to play games (which it is for many), it's by far one of the best generations ever. And even excluding third party content, the first party titles are the strongest they've ever been this early in the gen.

The news cycle of closed studios, GaaS failures, etc. recency bias clouds out the overall picture. And nostalgia for largely mid games that sold like shit (PS3 era) is way overdone.

Playstation 2 - just not even a question
Playstation 4 - Redemption arc for Sony
Playstation 3 - True backwards compatibility, many of the tentpole franchises born in this era
Playstation 1 - Cuz nostalgia
Playstation 5 - It's still good, but seems like there's less innovation overall. New IPs are too infrequent. Sony lost it's way for a sec with it's GaaS initiative. Points for PC Ports though. Arrogant Sony returns in full force.

What if for some of us the best PS4 years were the first half (2013-2016)? (open world games came later on)

What if I prefer Uncharted 4 vs games you mentioned?

What if I don't like the PS5 because there's no Uncharted 5?

Ever thought of that possibility, or nah?

Well I guess it's the same situation as people enjoying the first half of PS5.

But your post has no real connection with what I said. Or I missed it.

You don't seem to understand that personal taste is by definition subjective and has nothing to do with sales or res/fps.

What if I told you that for JRPG fans the PS2 is the best PlayStation ever? Can you guess why?

I remember people complaining that the PS3 is no longer the JRPG powerhouse the PS2 was and even though I'm not a JRPG fan myself, I understand why they didn't like the PS3 as much as I did.

Really?

Uncharted 3 is nowhere near 640p 20 fps. Perhaps you confuse it with Resistance 3?

Most 1st party games were rock solid 720p 30 fps.

To be fair, most PS3s sold don't offer full backwards compatibility.

True, and when I finally got one, those non-compatible ones were out already. I paid for a used one with the compatibility. I still appreciate that Sony did this. I still have that PS3, so technically I still have a PS2 and PS1...though my actual systems no longer function.

Yeah, I ended up selling my launch 60GB unit as it got incredibly loud and I never used it when it was alongside my sim model.

The Slim was as low as £312 this week bundled with Astro.

I’ve gone back and forth over buying one.

When I’ve tallied the games I want to play there is only really Astro and GT7. But I don’t think I’d have time to invest in GT7.

It’d be nice to play a none potato version of Apex and Rocket League again (playing on Switch currently). And if I want to play GTA 6, I think I’m going to need to pick up a PS5. Sea of Thieves is on PS5 too but I’m really hedging my bets on a Switch 2 release.

Tough one. I don’t even solely blame Sony for the slim pickings, it’s just the state of the West in general.

It's PS5 for sure. It's got the creation of pressure resistant triggers for Call of Duty and Battlefield games, which is a nice cool feature, but that's about it that really makes it so cool. The PS5 Pro does make the graphics better in about 70 or so games as another person as posted that. But new games have been very slow to come out and also the stay of making games for PS4 and PS5 is like, why not focus on the next gen here and now? So PS5 did have hit games come out for it though. But it's at a stand still for the last 4 months of 2024 and the rest of 2025 unless Sony releases something new.

In terms of system selling bangers, I would have to agree that it's been disappointing so far.

I think in terms of hardware build quality and technical features, it's by far the best.
Past generations have been atrociously bad.
Especially the PS2.
I've got a loft cupboard dedicated to broken PS hardware. From PSX to PS4.

Apart from maybe the controller, the PS5 seems well built in comparison. And it runs cooler and quieter.
Then you have the Portal and VR to enhance the experience.

Maybe with that and the gaas failures their studios are spread a little too thin atm.

The funny thing is in this is generation on my base ps5, I played more games and completed the most number of games compared to my old ps4 pro. And Im looking forward to play more games with the upcoming games like Doom Dark Ages, DS2,Ninja Gaiden 4, Stellar Blade dlc. etc. And Im about to buy Astrobot and Ps5 version this time of DS1 Directors cut.

Yeah, a lot of people don't get this. They insist that people who are disappointed in PS5's lineup are bitter and jaded, rather than recognize that it's their opinion, based on their personal experience. You can't argue people out of their subjective experience by talking about sales numbers or SSDs or whatnot. It's like trying to tell someone who doesn't like spinach how many vitamins spinach contains. Who gives a shit? If you don't like spinach, you don't like spinach.

Last year they released Grounded for PS4. That's the latest release I can think of or am bothered to look up.

Fair enough, but I had if I remember correctly the second generation model which did not have the emotion engine inside it, but you could still do software based emulation. I have some real good memories of emulating PS2 and PSP games on my PS3.

I probably played more persona 4 on a PS3 than the original PS2 hardware.

Waiting until the end of this generation would obviously be more accurate but I really do believe the end of this generation will be just as strong as any PlayStation console has ever ended. They all have ended extremely strong. Games like:

Saros, Intergalactic, Wolverine, Ghost of Yōtei + possibly Gears E-Day & Fable along with Santa Monica Studios releasing a new IP are all exciting. Not to mention all the other great 3rd parties releases lined up.

PS5 will be another excellent PlayStation generation

PlayStation is always stronger in the second half of the generation.

2020 was arguably the best year for PS4.

I will probably be buying the definitive version of these games (running with DLSS and shits) at Steam sales.

I don't care about FH5 on PS5. Same about Indiana Jones. Don't get me wrong, they're good games.

Wanna know why I don't care? Because there's no physical release.

There's no way I'm paying €70 for a digital-only game, especially when I already have Game Pass, XSX and a gaming PC.

I don't welcome MS games on PS5, because it's a sly roundabout way to abolish physical ownership:

That's one more reason to hate the PS5 generation: Sony is no longer what it used to be (#fortheplayers -> #forthepayers). They're a Microsoft copycat (Xbone 2013 shenanigans).

It's truly a shame Sony fans no longer care about physical games. Microsoft's digital-only agenda has prevailed. In the future they will even abolish physical hardware with Azure cloud streaming.

Is that the future you envision about consoles? I don't.

It’s a shame some Sony fans no longer care about games in general. This generation and the previous one has been abismal in quality of the output of the first party, not only by the diversity of it. But this is a very Sonic centric forum. Almost everyone has a PS5. And the votes are in. So, aside from a very vocal minority that will defend it no matter what they are awakening, I guess.

Timed Exclusives like Stellar Blade, Rebirth, and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart already bests everything on the PS4 assuming we're not counting awesome multiplatforms like the Resident Evil games.

For me at least, without its own Metal Gear game it kind of is; even though I do think that that aside, PS5 is already a nice, and worthwhile console, with more than enough content.
