Xbox refugees, will you repurchase games from your Xbox library on another platform?

Will you buy games you already own on Xbox on another platform?

I did the opposite, actually. Re-bought a bunch of games I had on PS4 on Xbox and Switch, back when we found out about PlayStation disc drive issues of the future viability.

Now I have a lot of my favorite games both physically and digitally across multiple systems.
Does Xbox still even sell a console with a disc drive? They have a series X without it now.

I've bought a few games I already owned on Xbox on PSN ON SALE since I got my PS5 pro - where there have been pro patches that offer upgrades in the graphics front
I wouldn't have bought on PSN if I'd stuck with the base PS5 and wouldn't have bought them at full price

Honestly I've had PS5 and Series X since they launched day 1

I bought significantly more for series x vs ps5 mainly due to discounted keys for games that made it incredibly cost effective and would only buy a game on PS5 where that version was the better version to play

Hogwarts was a game that I got day1 on series x and loved it and completed it there

When I got the ps5 pro I heard good things about it with the pro patch and picked it up for £20 on sale, but man the series x version is light years ahead of even the ps5 pro version and was my worst spend in probably years

Compare to Lies of P which is pretty messy on Xbox series x in fidelity and barely maintains a stable frame rate in performance mode but playing it on gamepass has been ok but I'm shit at it

Finally picked it up on sale for PS5 due to the pro patch and it leaving gamepass

On ps5 pro in fidelity mode it's so smooth and slick compared to the seties x performance mode. Which is probably down to lack of focus on the Xbox version however I consider it a significant upgrade to have the pro patch version now on ps5

Another would be Alan wake 2 - day 1 on series x and completed it there but re bought on ps5 pro due to the added ray tracing in the pro patch

However I would love remedy to get it performing better than it is

All my Xbox games are digital and will continue to play them there mostly

Personally, I wouldn't move to another platform, I am just too entrenched. For example, most other platforms have copied Xbox 360 achievements, but when I get an achievement in something like Steam it's meaningless to me, whereas on Xbox I'll actually play a game in whatever specific way is required to get an achievement.

When they shutter the Xbox console business, that's probably the end for me and (non-Nintendo) consoles.

Weird why not just move over to PS? They essentially get almost all the same games. If PS was going through what Xbox was I'd just move over to Xbox and be done with it. I don't really care which ecosystem I'm in they are essentially the same to me. I just want to make sure I have access to the games I like. Xbox didn't have access to a bunch of Japanese titles so that's why I choose PS but now they have access to most of them just missing a few more now.

Because the whole premise of this thread is conjured up in fantasyland.

  • In the emails, Sarah Bond reiterated Microsoft's plans to build new Xbox hardware focused on delivering "the biggest technical leap ever in a generation."
  • Sarah Bond also revealed that Microsoft has set up a dedicated team to future-proof our digital Xbox game libraries across future hardware paradigms to further "build on [Xbox's] strong history of delivering backward compatibility."

This is a question for those who own Xbox but have decided to move to another platform in the wake of Microsoft's decision to prioritize their publishing business. Microsoft has many options to keep you on their platform, like Play Anywhere, XCloud, and Game Pass. Their PC releases also have a presence on Steam and other consoles now, with lots of options where players can go. Of course, everyone can stick with their existing hardware - I doubt Microsoft will pull support any time soon for their playerbase, even if support for Xbox hardware is diminished in the future.

I haven't owned an Xbox since the 360, but I would love to buy several former Xbox exclusives on other platforms. I tried to think what I would do if my Nintendo or Playstation libraries were affected instead, and honestly I would probably buy some of the games again on a platform I know would have full support in the future. I wouldn't replace everything, just my all time favorite games or multiplayer games I want to ensure there is an active community to play with.
I will just keep buying the next gen Xbox consoles and play my games like normal. You were missing that option in your poll.

Yea like I said situation reversed I'd be moving over. I don't care what the people at MS say. They are constantly changing plans and if hardware sales drop even lower next gen they will bail out. Just me as a consumer I wouldn't like the uncertainty and constantly changing plans of the company. If Sony was doing all this I'd already be looking to leave. I tried PC because to me that's the best choice but unfortunately all the BS on that ecosystem is to much for me.

Those things you mention never even cross my mind, and I wonder where all of this concern is coming from (or rather, I know where it is coming from). Im feeling pretty good about my X and all of the games coming this year on game pass.

I think maybe I just don’t need a new console. If it was an Xbox and I could still collect achievements and access all my old stuff, that would be fine, but moving to a completely different closed platform - no thanks, I’ll stick to PC.

I've been slowly rebuying select games I own digitally for the One/Series X on the PS4/5.

I have over 550 digital Xbox games and I am not about to repurchase all of them.

I don't trust Microsoft any longer which has a lot to do with why I would even consider doing this. I dumped Gamepass a month ago so I'm pulling out of their ecosystem since there isn't shit worth playing on it that I won't be able to play on the PS5 down the road. If I had a redo it would be skipping the Series X. Oh well, live and learn.

Because they stop getting made.

I guess you can still hook your NES up too, but it's easier just to get those games on Switch.
But then wouldn't you just buy the next gen xbox that would then still play your full library?

PC gaming is pretty good but word of warning if you like achievements, well they just aren't done as well over on the PC side. One of the things that annoyed me with PC gaming as well. Steam big picture mode one day just stopped popping trophies and had to wait for Steam to patch it.

What ?! lol That's dumb. no one bought this Saturn games because they only released like 5 copies. Deep fear was never released in the US. 😵‍💫

The Xbox is digital so no game scarcity. And Ms will continue on with Xbox as a digital platform meaning your games will be available some where.

This is all silly fanboyisms.

I bought my PD Saga on clearance at an eb games. They had about 20.

I though "oh yeah that one will be worth a few hundred one of these days". My theory was that comic book and baseball card and toy collectors all got laughed at hanging onto their childhood stuff. Who's laughing now, motherfucker?!@!

Who did they think I was shilling for?
Not buying my old games again lol, Ill just keep my OneX plugged for backward compatible games. When that stops working, then its goodbye, but Ill cross that bridge when the time comes.

Besides, half of my 360 library doesn't work on OneX, so maybe they should be working on that…

With Xbox offering play anywhere since Xbox One (mid-gen?), if they were to pivot completely to PC, they've already semi-converted some of their user base towards PC. Now with some games going to PlayStation, they've got some additional or supplemental revenue coming in from the console side.

From a revenue perspective, if they keep playing their cards right, they can "afford" their own hardware while getting money from multiple revenue-streams. And I have said this before, MS is the only company that can afford to set up this type of ecosystem without putting themselves at risk. Of course if MS, the parent company, loses interest, then things will be a bit different, but not sure we are there yet or it will go there.

How many Xbox consoles will need to be sold for Microsoft to still bother doing everything it takes to launch, run and maintain new console generations?

I don't know, but when they launch a new console with literally zero console exclusives, while the competition has tons, I believe it will sell below that. If the next "Xbox" sells 5 or 10 million, I wouldn't expect another.

No, but people leave when they see no future in the brand.

Trying to buy Dreamcast games on eBay, anything that came out after the console discontinuation announcement is hella expensive as a lot of people abandoned the platform after Jan 2001 and game sales really slowed down.

Same with Saturn, those consoles stopped working, but no one was buying those great 1998 titles like Panzer Saga, Burning Rangers or Deep Fear.
We on Dreamcast are currently playing GTA 3, GTA VC and Doom 64 improved AF :messenger_winking_tongue:...But yes, i do get your point, but doesnt apply to all the post March 01 DC released games, some are still cheap, or at leas were until a few years ago. Aaaaaand, it´s not like MS is gonna stop anytime soon to deliver Xbox consoles, even if they go multiplattform. I mean, Xbox Series S/X are going to receive stuff as relevant and massively popular as GTA VI, the next CODs, the next popular sports and free to play franchises..I mean, multiplattform wise they´re still well covered, despite losing some AAA great stuff like Wukong, FF VII Remake and Silent Hill 2 remake... and also MS has the muscle to keep the hardware business alive, at least for a short and even medium term, unlike Sega back in the DC´s day...Also, DC always got 1st party killer apps, even after death, like Sonic Adventure 2 and Shenmue 2, and great stuff like the 2K2 sports line up...The main problem with Xbox is precisesly the lack of 1rst party and "exclusive" killer apps.

Microsoft already thought about shutting it down (came out during the leaks back during the Activision trial) so it's possible.

Since the thread bump: both. I’ll keep my 360 around and I’ll purchase another SX when it’s dirty cheap (which with Xbox systems happens a lot here in Spain). But I’ll probably buy the MMC again. And then delete Halo 4.

Most chose:

No, I will still keep my Xbox and play what I own on it

Phill Spencer is an incompetent who makes excuses for failure. According to him, to change platforms you have to throw away the old one.
To buy the Xbox SX you have to throw away the PS4 and your entire PSN library and not keep the PS4 for the PSN games you bought.

Just like no one is going to throw away the Xbox SX to buy the PS5 or PS6, no one needed to throw away the PS4 to buy the Xbox SX.

I bought a series X in 2022 and haven't bought one single physical game for it.

Now with Xbox games going to PS5/Switch 2 I'm starting to wonder If I'll ever have a legitimate need to play it outside of the occasional backwards compatible gaming session...😕

I never sell my consoles after generation ends (exception was ps4 pro that I have sold) so will keep both of my series x consoles (one is still boxed the galaxy edition) and will keep playing on it. Same as I do with my GameCube, xb360, Dreamcast, ps2, psx, psp and vita etc.

Wait, when has that happened in Spain? As a spaniard I can’t recall, actually due to the low stock on Series X I bet it won’t be easy to find them for cheap when the new XBOX is released.

I got a new Galaxy edition next to my PS5 Pro 30th anniversary edition, and it will be there until the next gen.

The OG Xbox was dirty cheap, and the One was also heavily discounted. If it tanks, it cheapens.

Man, it was 25 years ago, not even with the EOL of the 360, or XBO/XBOX despite sinking in Spain really hard you could find them for dirty cheap, and as stated before this time will be much harder to find a Series X in countries like Spain where it's not easy to find stock at retail stores.

Idk about the OX but the One was very cheap towards the end of the cycle.

Why would I when I still own and use an Xbox regularly, and own and use a PC with my Xbox games on it regularly? Plus, you can’t get 360 and OG Xbox games on other platforms, at least not as easily as you can on a native Xbox console.
