Windows Central/Jez Corden: Xbox's new hardware plans begin with a gaming handheld set for later this year, with full next-gen consoles targeting 2027

That would kill the reason for the PS6 to exist. No way there's a 7 year cross-gen period. It'll be 2-3 years. MAX!

It will be there for the people who want to upgrade and for people who just want to go straight from PS4 to PS6. It will be no different then the way GPUs work in the PC market. I believe it's part of the reason Sony switched to focusing on MAUs over console sales because they just want people in their console ecosystem PS4/PS5/PS6 doesn't really matter to them.

Well the question then becomes which existing windows handheld brand are they going to slap their logo on?

Whoever it is will give us a good indication for who they will partner with for that upconing rumoured PC.
Most likely Lenovo if I had to guess based on their CES panel.

Man....you crazy!!!! LOL! You think the PS5 generation will last 15 years?!?!
100%. PS6 will probably have small exclusives at launch like a Bloodborne remake or maybe another Ratchet and Clank, but gaming has stagnated. The majority of 3rd party publishers will support the Switch 2 for the next 8-10 years too. Which means it's a no brainer to support PS5 as well

And unless chip prices dramatically drop, I would suspect the PS6 will sell much worse. Most consumers will not shell out 7-800$ for a console. The player base will be much smaller, so the cross-gen period will last much longer than this generation

So the supposed 2027 console will already be limited by 2025 handheld architecture, with the PS6 arriving in 2028...

Jez has like 0 chill in him lol.

if this means the xbox OS on a PC but without steam, its DoA
I have no idea why anyone expects Microsoft to just hand over its subscriber and paying base over to Valve for free.

A lot of people talk about how great this would be for them, but no one has thought through why it would be good for Microsoft.

Another portable Windows PC would be fine, but it'll need to differentiate itself somehow from the other hardware on more meaningful properties, such as price, battery life, grunt, thinner, lighter - things that matter in this space. An Xbox Guide button doesn't really achieve that goal, in my opinion. Curious to see what they're putting together, but not sure it'll be enough to warrant trading in my Steam Deck.

The fake-xbox pc makes sense to me. That way, the hardcore fans have somewhere to go.

As a handheld? Little weird but it might be a good testbed as the 'conaole' would be under a ton more scrutiny.

The decision to launch a Windows-based handheld is overwhelmingly logical.

Could anyone really expect an Xbox Handheld in 2025 that would need specific third-party support??? You would need a handheld with the power of XSS and that is impossible today.

The association with a partner and continuing to be based on Windows ensures support and will surely serve to test the market and serve as a test bed for a future 100% proprietary handheld and its desktop proposal.

Then, I am interested in knowing more about the new controllers. Will they release new Xbox controllers with new features before the new hardware or will they wait for a joint launch???
I would have thought their handheld would allow native Xbox games… if they waited till next year.

As it is, the device seems completely pointless. Why buy MS Handheld which is basically OEM built vs Asus or Lenovo or other Windows devices.

Ans then we will probably get Steam Deck 2 next year with UDNA chipset.

This is just a head scratcher. And of course unless MS improves Windows experience on the handheld it still will be kind of iffy.

Jez is well known for being a mouthpiece for whatever MS wants to be publicly known

Which implies MS is as confused about their strategy as anyone else judging from the schizo "rumors" being circulated recently

They could have tried to steal some of Switch's thunder any time over the last six years. Now go head to head with Switch 2.

Even the most junior gaming scholars know never to directly attack a Nintendo handheld (it's as getting involved in a land war in Asia). But they have a unique twist in mind that will differentiate this from past attempts: ports for Switch 2!

Apologies if this has already been asked, but if the next Xbox is just a PC running Windows, would MS still make you pay for multiplayer?

I'm getting tired of the rumors and speculation. Feels like we just go round and round the mulberry bush, over and over. I'm sure it will continue until they release the damn thing(s), though.

I have realized Phil cannot please me. When he talks too much, I want him to shut up. Now I want him to start talking and spill the beans on Xbox's future. I am slowly starting to realize that I might be the problem.

Or maybe when he talks, not spin BS or lie directly to our faces? Nah. Must be us.

at this point Microsoft just chase whatever hottest trend in hope of they can somehow be lucky on the process. disregard of whatever their original intention or their overall readiness are. even if they are late to the party.

personally i dont see how it would be a gamechanger but i dont suprise if they change the course again depend on whatever trend rise on market.

but more company jump in on pc handheld market is good.

however if Microsoft actually try to escape Sony by enter console exclusive handheld market which is gonna put him directly on indirectly against Nintendo,
