Oh wow, so it's a little shorter than the OG PS5. Didn't know that.

It's not shorter if you look at the basic shape and have in account that the OG PS5 has a thicker base.

I prefer the Eric Cantona style sleeves of the OG but what can you do.

When you factory reset it, It also unassigns it as your primary console so that's one thing, the other is to have your saves uploaded to the cloud and backup your screenshots to a USB drive, that, or backup your whole PS5 to another drive as to transfer everything back to your new console.
Pro-tip : if you decide to go the backup route, Don't transfer your installed games since it will take ages, it's better and faster to just redownload them on your new console (Always depending on your internet speeds obviously).

So some of us with the playstation credit card we are getting 15x points instead of the normal 5 from nov1 to dec15. Direct charged my card yesterday for the pro. That amount of points should easily cover a few games!

Plus a video to do game sharing. Will keep the original PS5 downstairs and the Pro upstairs in the office.

M.2s are hot swappable. Simply turning off your PS5 with the M.2, then removing it and putting it in the PS5 Pro before starting it should work.

Also apparently you have to setup your account on the new consoles first or it makes you format the m.2 ssd.
