Dark Messiah, which actually I'm replaying it after almost a decade for a few days now, so its fresh, and it has not aged as well as I remembered it. Is a cool physic demo combat wise and I suggest anyone playing it, but its completely unbalanced combat wise. Let's not even go into the dialogues and story cause that's... yea..
Kicking simulator nearby cliffs. Kicking messiah.
If that novelty doesn't wear off for you then you'll have a blast but otherwise, kick off cliffs, kick into fire, kick into spikes, kick kick. Its almost a meme.
Very repetitive. They setup enemies with neon signs almost for kick him off a cliff! Kick him into spikes! Which kind of makes any depth of the build evaporate, outside of a few good setup videos on youtube like we also saw for Dishonored, after how many reloads to make it look cool, like flipping a bottle and make it land or some any impossible skill video. Any first time players will not play like that. If you want to practice 300 hours to look cool go for it, the potential is there.
Playing mage quickly becomes a chore later on as they are more effort than worth to use. Stealth is shit as often there's nowhere to hide. When you can hide then its broken. Bow sucks, too long to switch. Movement is kinda clunky, lagging almost, too much weight. There's mods to improve that but the OG is... yeah. A thing of its time.
I much prefer the balance of combat in Dishonored, tight as fuck, but action. Dark messiah feels like Arkhane's demo concept comparatively. Somehow also not as good as Arx Fatalis imo. Kick messiah is a much more shallower experience and hugely inconsistent compared to Arx. Had a lot more fun with Avowed to be honest.
