Schedule 1 debuts with 142k concurrent players. #1 on sales chart. 98% positive rating.

Saw this pop up on Steam today. Can't say it looks like it's my kind of game but it's always good to see when a game made by a single dev does this well.

I'm a bit confused. Is it some kind of simulator or more like a traditional open world game?

It's beating Assassin's Creed Shadows on Steam CCU lol

Seems interesting with the management stuff. I'm always a sucker for that.

The problem with these low budget meme games is that the novelty wears off quickly.

That's exactly the kind of game that find success on Steam, I don't know how to describe it or even if its a good or a bad thing.

PC folks just gravitate to this low effort, low quality, 30 minutes experiments.

From a look at random gameplay clips on youtube it's basically a drug dealer simulator set in a small "open world" town.

Reminds me of my time with Drug Wars on the TI-83. I wish there was a Mafia game more like this. Like open world, come up with your own scams, recruitment and upward mobility chances.

These games are quite cool for "in between" bigger games. Just cost a few bucks. Are entertaining for a few nights and than yr done or it becomes just too repetitive.

But 142k is crazy. :messenger_open_mouth:

Thank this man(CaseOh)

da fook is this.

i feel 142k is a bit dodgy considering it doesn't look any good.

is this like a standalone from a mod or something?

What seems low effort about this?

You're a small-time drug dealer rolling into a fresh town with no cash, no product and no connections. Build your drug empire from the ground up in the grungy west-coast city of Hyland Point. Contend against intensifying law enforcement and deadly cartel competitors to expand your empire and reach the peak of the underworld.

Produce a range of drugs to satisfy your customers, each one with it's own unique production process. Discover special recipes to create new drug variants with special properties.

Walk, skate or drive throughout Hyland Point to get product into the hands of customers. Hire dealers to handle distribution for you.

Purchase new properties and hire employees to expand the scope and scale of your operations. Work with suppliers to build a fully automated production and distribution chain.

This is a dangerous line of work - you'll have to contend with increasing law enforcement, as well as deadly cartel competitors. Fight with fists, melee weapons or firearm

That actually sounds extremely ambitious for a 1 man game with co op.

Some of the older people in this thread need to understand that younger people don't give a fuck about graphics anymore or most of AAA gaming, they'd rather play the latest chill indie game than the 300 million budget corporate slop with shiny ray tracing and boring af gameplay

I think it is an excellent thing that experimentation from small studios is vastly rewarded. The alternative is the console ecosystem with nothing but remasters and iterations of the same stale 3rd person action game formula.

Yep, modding and also these small games are extremely important imho to keep things fresh.

Because these types of games take risks and aren't generally available on consoles.

And PC gamers are frequently more "hardcore", so they've played a lot, so they're jaded by AAA, so they seek novelty.

console need these kind of games.
ngl im envy here, i guess ill try this game with my old gaming PC once the full game is out, spec doesnt seems very demanding here.

I think a simple look at the game explains what I meant, simple graphics, stock animation...etc

Yup I agree.

That's a good explanation and it makes sense actually.

Hey I will have you know AC was VERY "successful" according to at least one thread here

In case anyone is confused by the name:

https://www.dea.gov/drug-information/drug-scheduling
Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are: heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote.

Funnily enough, cocaine and methamphetamine are technically Schedule II (same category as Adderall, Vicodin, bunch of other stimulants and analgesic narcotics). I remember learning in one of my pharmacology classes that cocaine was used relatively often as a local anesthetic during ophthalmic surgeries in ye olde times.

Incidentally, the US government (Department of Justice) was moving towards reclassifying marijuana from a Schedule 1 to a Schedule 3 substance in late 2024. This change was long overdue. It was ridiculous to classify marijuana as Schedule 1, the highest substance abuse/dependence category, alongside substances like heroin, crack cocaine, PCP, and opiates.

I'm not sure where that stands now. It was moving forward prior to the election, but the change in administration may have disrupted it, I'm not sure.

Its anything but low effort. You should probably comment only on things you know about y'know

These "sleeper hits" are honestly one of my favorite things in gaming. Out of nowhere, a fun game drops, and there's no waiting

Looks interesting but not a huge fan of like management Sims. The Rick and Morty style also kinda puts me off, but that's probably one of the reasons it's popular.

Game of the decade for me. Just under 50 hours of play time. There is so much more under the surface that you honestly get suprised and are finding out new things all the time.
