Razer pauses direct laptop sales in the US as new tariffs loom - The Verge

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

With tariffs set to kick in tonight, Razer's new Blade 16 and other laptops are no longer available to purchase directly.

Razer's upcoming Blade 16 and other laptops are no longer available for preorder or purchase on its US site. The configurator for preordering its new Blade 16 laptop was available as recently as April 1st, according to the Internet Archive — one day before the Trump administration announced sweeping US tariffs on China, Taiwan, and others that make laptop components. When asked recently if tariffs might affect Razer's prices or availability, its Public Relations Manager, Andy Johnston, told The Verge, "We do not have a comment at this stage regarding tariffs."

Razer may not be openly talking about the impact of tariffs, but Framework halted sales of its entry-level Laptop 13 in the US on April 7th, and Micron reportedly confirmed surcharges for its memory chips will apply once the tariffs take effect after midnight tonight.

The direct link to the Blade 16 configurator now takes you to a 404 error page, and its product page only has a "notify me" button instead of anywhere to submit your preorder.

While shopping for other laptops on Razer's site, only skins and accessories are available for purchase.

Even a new laptop stand Razer announced today, which a press release said would be "available now," only has a "notify me" button with no price listed anywhere. Meanwhile, the same laptop stand has a price of $99.99 CA on the Razer Canada site, where the Blade 16 configurator is still available. It's a similar story for Razer's site in other countries as well. We've contacted Razer for further comment on tariffs and asked for confirmation that it has paused sales, but it did not respond by the time of publication.

arent their keyboards and mice pretty trashy? i figured that type of quality would go to their laptops as well
Dont listen to the vocal minority online. I can't speak for their peripherals but I've owned several Razer laptops over the years and the build quality is second only to Apple.

I had one case of battery bloat in 15 years.

Didn't know they were planning to start selling them soon.

I wonder if the tariff situation will make people realize that you actually don't need to buy stuff often :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Lol at people not caring because this is Razer.

Everything will either be hitting new price highs or following suit soon. You think Sony and Nvidia are going to do nothing about this?

My mouse is a Razer Naga. I love this thing and have had it for years with no issues.

Also has one of the old Razer MX laptops in the early 2000's that I gave to my nephew once I upgraded to a different one. Razer makes great products.

Opposite for me. I've owned two of theirs of its been crap.

Oh no what will the US do without really shittily designed laptops with virtually zero customer support and very limited availability of parts?

Thats unfortunate what was wrong with them?

I had a 2023 Blade 16 and dropped it and bust the screen just out of warranty. Sent to to Razer for repair and they just sent me a refurbished 2024 model for nothing. True story.

You mean people are going to have an issue with buying their overpriced, shit quality "gaming" products that literally falls apart within months?

Sounds like they are doing these potential customers with buyers remorse a favor.

I've seen so many razers where the hinges ripped away from the lcd back plate within a year of purchase because of extra shitty design.

Meanwhile China will be just fine. The US won't. Stupid fight to pick.

World wide stocks are plummeting including China. They'll be fine sure but in that sense so will we. China will be hurt from this and so are we. Unfortunately on both sides the poor are the ones who are going to be hurt the most.

You've owned 2 razer products?

Bro....

I hate them and I've owned several of their devices myself. My favorite mouse ever was a wired razer naga with the red lava glow.

That one broke when the weight inside of the naga snapped. It was held in place by cheap plastic. My wireless naga was a nightmare. There was an issue with it not registering clicks, but only occasionally, which of course in competitive wow was the most infuriating thing of all time and could cause a wipe or just fuck up a dps log.

Razer has 2 issues. First their build quality is crap. Second is their software can cause all kinds of issues on Windows sometimes. Even on new builds. While I'm not doubting your experience(their designs are usually pretty good) their build quality issues may have just not hit you. Your cheap little piece of plastic holding everything together in your devices may have just had some lucky bounces, but that doesn't mean the build quality overall is good.

China will probably attempt to adapt with some comprehensive and informed plan. Meanwhile US has a brick on the accelerator and no hands on the wheel. China looks set to ride it out just a bit better.

I think people are about to find out that there is a shit ton of stuff out there that's either effectively only available from China, or so expensive elsewhere that even a 104% tariff won't move the needle.

I've had two razer mice and they've both been great.
I've only needed two because the first was good for the past 10 years or so, and I recently wanted to upgrade when I got my new PC.

They could. I see a lot of people running with this attitude online and I'm just not as positive about it as they are. China is a country that constantly lies about all their metrics. I could see this doing a lot of damage simply because we overestimated them based on information that was never true to begin with. A lot like we thought Ukraine would be gone in 2 weeks then we found out Russia's military is a joke and we severely overestimated their ability to conduct a war.

I don't understand some of you here. Razer might be shit but it's not about them. It's about everything becoming twice as expensive or not available at all.

What...the US is literally the largest market they sell to, and their economy was worse off going out of covid.

Trade wars will suck until a resolution is found, but they're not in some advantageous position.
