I have a question about engravings at blacksmith.
If I put a damage perk(like +20 armorpiercing) on a hatā€¦ does it still affect my weapon used?!
Or does it have to be on a katana?

And if I donā€™t use tanto at all, should I also upgrade it and put engravings on it? Or are those only applied to tanto ?!?!
I repeat my question. How engravings work

30 hours wow your going ham on it
I had enough time to waste lol, but now have to work, can't wait to continue.

Gaming is great hobby when you actually game right. People have been grifting on this game for months now and most of them didnt even bother to give the game a chance. They have fucked up many times but ubisoft is a publisher that always deserves a second chance imo, and shadow really proves how much talent they have when they focus on putting a polished game on the shelves. Try not to get into the sales, drama threads about the game cuz they are tend to be explosive diarrhea coded
Yeah, I try to avoid them, just want to have fun with the game. I managed to complete valhalla and that was miserable lol.

Shadows is a better experience till now and the technical feat is not bad, not bad at all. I love these weather effects, especially rain and thunderstorm. Ghost of yotei better bring in the same features, otherwise it will be disappointing for me after seeing this.

Itā€™s really good. The outrage and now grifters only saying is fine because they donā€™t want to admit how good the game is.
Thank God itā€™s not historically correct. I want fun. Not history lesson

Yeah it doesn't have to be a history lesson, but some games just put stuff into games that don't fit the narrative at all and that takes me out personally.

But the stuff with yasuke isn't as bad as people made it out, but I prefer playing with naoe, yasuke is just too easy, the game becomes literally super easy mode.

Iā€™m still in act 1, does Naoe ever get to a point where she is dismembering people? Do enemies lose anything aside from heads?

Man every time I do a quest is seems like itā€™s unlocking fifty more things to do.

I'm 30 hours in, but for me only yasuke does the brutal stuff. Naoe is more the agile one, comes in and disappears, yasuke on the other hand is the brute who destroys everything in his path.

The map size might be similar to ac origins, but what we got here is far more dense than origins and maybe even valhalla, it will probably take me more time to clear this than odyssey.

I kind of love the random one-on-one Naoe duels, guys, especially against enemies who have armor, and Ronins. They feel like a chess match where, because of Naoe being super fleshy, you have to nail down your parries and dodges, or else you will get clapped mercilessly.

They feel like a friendlier version of Souls-combat. Sheā€™s definitely a ninja first, head on warrior second.

So after 20 hours my gripes so far:

- World is still too big.
You can cut that shit in half and it would make a way better paced game.
- Climbing is so clunky and unsatisfying.
- Yasuke is just there and terrible to play.
- The faces in Cutscenes look so rough.
- 30fps cap in the hideout.
- Story so far isnt interesting nor exciting so far
- Im not impressed with the graphics and hype around RTGi when we had RDR2 from 2018 that looks as good without resource hog tech
- Combat feels terrible and becomes annoying with this finishers on every god damn enemy..

Yeah i would be pissed if i had payed 80 bucks for that.
Glad Ubi has their Ubi+ thing.
I'm about 4 hours in and some of my gripes so far are in your list -

I've been actually enjoying the combat and graphics(balanced mode on PS5 Pro). I did come into the game with lower expectations so it has surprised me in places. I paid $79 AUD($50 USD) and haven't yet regretted my purchase lol.

Where is this cap in the hideout coming from? I just checked and I get 90+. Console only issue?

So can someone explain why the hell the hideout is limited to 30fps?

The only thing I can think of is that the more you build the more the framerate gets hit, so they decided to keep it locked at 30. Right?

It's a neat idea in concept but in practice it's just going to the general area and pressing L2 looking for the blue indicator.
Here's a crazy idea. What if they had this bird, and you'd let the bird loose and it would fly around and mark stuff from the air. Hell, you could even zoom in, attack or distract enemies, etc. Someone should put that in a game. Seriously, though, the bird was superior to this L2/Scout nonsense in every way possible.
The map size might be similar to ac origins, but what we got here is far more dense than origins and maybe even valhalla, it will probably take me more time to clear this than odyssey.
I don't know that it's more dense, I just think traversal is significantly slower and more restrictive. I spent this afternoon clearing up the area I was on and it took forever because everything is a mountain or on a hill, or a narrow path, and you can't just bee line it like you could the past games.
Try the actual duels with Yasuke....two hit kills lol.
He's just broken. There is very little challenge in the game, even with Naoe, using him just feels like cheating.

You got it. They don't want console users building a ton of shit and then complaining the game runs badly and blaming Ubisoft.

Well that's the logical answer but no idea. Maybe they will fix in a future patch. PSSR implementation is coming for the Pro, hoping that might fix it for at least the Pro anyway!

All I can say is... Tanto is a game changer. :) It's been a long time, as I grew up I loved AC, but this is the only RPG-era AC I have played. Also, it's annoying the assassinations don't one-shot kill targets (unless I turn on the guaranteed assassination setting).

Holy fuck

This game makes a great first impression. I havenā€™t played anything in so long. Fuck this is good

Already liking it more than my time with ghost of Tsushima and Iā€™m less than an hour in.

Game is fabulous so far. Combat, graphics, story all blending together just how I like it.

Aw man, did they really remove the ability to have your horse auto-gallop to a waypoint or objective marker?

That was such a useful ability in Origins and Odyssey.

How's the story? I might pick it up at some point. I've got about a month before Clair Obscur comes out.
It's very simple actually. Without telling much, it's about revenge and being part of something greater.

But to be honest, the game is more about exploring the world and fighting, the story is just there to move you around. Don't expect something in the veins of GoT.

But the prologue was pretty good, it has a nice tarantino touch. BTW, english dub sucks, you don't want to play this game in english.

Ever play an AC game and there is a list of masked people in it that you have to kill? Yeah.....this is that yet again. Writing isn't great so far, but I'm still in act one. But this is typical for AC. Story and characters that are just good enough to go with the really good (not great) combat.

Fair enough. As long as it's really fun. I really have no interest in playing Yasuke because it sounds like his style is just bulldozing enemies, which was kinda how I played Ghost. Naoe seems more appropriate for an AC game.

I'm curious to see how it plays out. Yasuke gets a bow and that's how I love playing, but that usually goes really well with stealth like in GoT. Sucks only Yasuke gets it. Oh well.

Yep, yasuke is ivan drago in this game, whatever he hits, he destroys.

Naoe is more fun and more of a challenge. It makes a difference playing around with a build.

The game let's you play as naoe for the majority of the game if you want to. Exceptions are a few points in the game when progressing with the story.

it goes in step and each step narrows the search area, so first you go to the area where they say it's in, then from there you look for the second thing, then you look for the third thing.
-in the south west region
--alright I'm here what's next
-north of the [named] temple
--alright looking for a temple with this name
-by a big tree
--alright time to head north until I find the tree
That's probably one of the best examples where it works, cuz it gives you some visual clues. Same goes for some origami quests except the one with the stables. But for example good luck finding all origamis without using left trigger, cuz if you won't be doing that then it's pixel hunting game and looking at every tree in town, around and outside of it. It's not like you need to find all origamis, but some have clues in them so you kinda have to. I almost thought about mentioning GOT's wind system for guidance sake, but in Shadows it just won't work cuz the game by default is extremely windy so you probably can't tell what is guidance and what's just a simple wind... unless it'll have some color to it or idk. I hope that they'll tell a story about how the game and its new systems were made, what they wanted to do and all that at GDC at some point, cuz I'm sure they experimented a lot with a few things before settling on this hint systems we have now and I'm sure they looked at what GOT did.

Haven't had any problem finding things and I don't use scouts either.
I also didn't until I had. Some hints are just too vague and cryptic without visual guidance and just S, W, N, E directions, so when you do that for a while it becomes tiresome. I just think there has to be more visual clues in hints like you mentioned as an example and not just S, W, N, E directions. Like, it's not terrible system by any means, but it could be better to save your some time and make leg / fieldwork a bit more smooth, organic and have better flow, cuz I sure as shit wont use scouts to tell me exactly where I need to go, like, couldn't they at least provided better visual and directional guidance instead of literally showing you the location? You have these scouts right, so, at first you have some vague and S, W, N, E directional hints by the quest itself, but then you can use scouts (if they won't add NPCs for you to talk to) to search the area (ask people behind the scenes for more clues) and then they'll give some visual directions only (name temples, houses, stores, maybe also something around them as well), then, if you blind and can't figure it out, use scouts again to literally show you where you need to go. So there's nothing in between the choices we have now and I think it'll be better if there'll be at least one more which won't tell you exactly where you need to go and at the same time you can use scouts which won't spoil it for you. Sounds good? Like, they worked hard on this scout system I'm sure, so it feels kinda bad to not use it, but you can't right now cuz it spoils everything.

Finally had a chance to play tonight. Balanced mode is definitely the way to go and dare I say that 40fps is done right here. Reminds me of Spider-Man.

Curious to see how PSSR will factor in. I'll definitely take my time with this game so I can play more under those features when it comes.

Writes a lot, says very little
Gotten a good few hours in the game. I'm surprised the game's completely sidelining Yasuke's story so far and only focusing on Naoe, was not expecting this at the start.

Also, the storms are pretty good. Red Dead 2 vibes.

Series X, Balanced Mode.

I think the goal here its to allow you to see how they meet and why her path would have conflict with his, but you have to really show a lot of her story to build that contrast

Don't know if they changed yasukes involvement, but so far he seems just like a sidekick, you could take him out and it wouldn't change a thing.

Story is definitely build around naoe, yasuke just happens to be there lol

Everything equipped applies, but there is no point in upgrading tanto if you don't equip it.

Edit: sorry for the double post, I jinxed it.
So armor engravings work on everything but tanto only on tamto? Because if not, it might be worth upgrading just for passive

I think I failed at the explanation, my bad.

So every engraving work on your character, as long as you equip them. Even if you only use your main weapon, like katana, but never use your secondary equipped tanto, it still adds up, if it's not a tanto specific engraving like slowing time after using a tanto ability of course.

So all passive engravings should work.

I'm actually having a good time with this game so far. Still just running around infiltrating the fortresses to steal shit I can't even use yet as I haven't progressed the story enough.

Playing with both combat and stealth on expert and that makes it quite challenging. Enemies actually look up and see you running over rooftops from quite a distance. Playing with the lights to cause darkness is a cool mechanic as for once it's actually useful to go in at night.

It's everything you'd expect from a gameplay perspective, yet for the first time in a loooooong time, it actually improved/is more refined. Makes it feel very different eventhough you're technicall doing the same stuff. If only they'd had the balls to go even further with the stealth, it would've been great. Maybe I unlock more stuff later, we'll see.

Loving my time with the game. I think that exploration, map design, navigation and stealth are fantastic. One nit-pick that I have is the fact that during combat, enemy moveset seems to be a little bit limited, they dont move much at and as a result fights can look a bit stiff. My girlfriend was watching me playing next to me and even her noticed this by herself (even tho she is not a gamer) there is certain stiffness in enemies behavior, I wish Ubisoft would make them more aggressive in general

In that sense I think Ghost of Tsushima did a better job

another thing I like about this game is how much NPC collision and ragdoll has improved over previous games. I mean they're great on their own, compared to average AAA games! big improvements

the way enemies stumble backwards, bump into a wall and they have to fix their stance back again. it is all great

also the way blood splashes over walls and environment. sure last of us art 2 did all these great but this is an open world game! insane!

these cats are too much

I CAN'T PLAY THE DAMN GAME

What? If anything they reduced ragdoll to the absolute bare minimum and now 95% of enemies die with the same precanned death animation that doesn't care about the type of blow...
Even the finishers look all the same with zero dynamism, there is the precanned animation fatality, and bodies falling down the same way and glue on the ground.

Playing mostly with the chained blade with naoe and all the enemies just die with the exact same animation, they just fall down, they are not get moved by the kinetic force of the weapon at all, even with yasuke and the kanabo, if you kill someone and the finishing animation doesn't start they just have the same precanned animation of when you kill them with a lighter weapon, it looks super fake.

And even when ragdoll accur, there is a weird internal timer so sometimes you see a body rolling with ragdoll because there is a slope or a stair and then they freeze in time in the weirdest unnatural position because the ragdoll timer end.

Compare that with origins and odissey where every kill looked different because ragdoll was applied to every final blow and you actually send enemy flying always in different ways

Even for the kanabo finisher that are the most violent and brutal, even the most distracted player can notice that they are all the same, the enemy fly in the air alway in the same way and land always in the same way and then you see the body slightly moving on the ground to reach a fixed position, ragdoll turning on seems very random and very rare.

I know some people like precanned animation galore like tsushima because it make look the game less messy and clean but to me, seeing the same animation over and over and over get boring after a couple of hours.

So I'm what... 23+ hours into the game so far and probaly about 75% completed the first region you start the game with and... there's not even slightest hint or sings that I'm getting bored with anything. Explorations is great, there's not a shit ton of Icons or question marks to check out, combat and stealth is even better now that I have access to the lvl 2 skills and got some of the major ones already, By this point I was already bored to death in AC Origins and Far Cry 6, so that's a HUGE improvement already and by itself.

I just love how seasons work. It's not you completely unrealistic season change from FH5 for example where it changes from summer, to autumn to winter with a flick of the finger, no, it'll gradually change, with what I think 3-4 steps, so for example autumn starts, then after a while the next step will begin and snow starts falling, then the next step and small cover of snow start to accumulate on the ground, grass and buildings, then there'll be even more snow and snowfall and then the winter really starts.

Like, devs, are you insane? Who asked for such a level of attention to detail and immersion? You don't even have that in RDR2 and the change of seasons are not dictated by the story and story events, you just play the game normally and seasons change. Now, what I would've liked to see is that at least double the amount of time between each step so that we could have more time in each step of a season change, so say 4-5 hours instead + fast travel to anywhere would not affect it in any way.

***********

Are you playing on the max difficulty level, cuz I do and they're agressive af, attack with groups 2-3 at a time, which foces me to dodge out of the way and cancel whatever I did and that's not to mention those enemies that attack you from a far using bows and rifles, stealth is a lot harder two cuz they can spot you on roofs like motherfuckers so you can't use them all that well even when prone, cuz they will spot you and will investigate if there's letters and stuff around the area to climb and check.

Man I want a good ninja game in the vein of Tenchu so this is tempting as hell but I canā€™t do just another straight iteration of the AC formula. It sounds so stale.

I think some of the games politics are questionable but I wouldnā€™t let that stop me from a great ninja game. Canā€™t trust reviews on this one either way unfortunately.

It is a good ninja game, put the stealth on expert. You can go prone, hang on beams inside buildings etc. None of it is really neccesary, the AI isnt the brightest, but you can make your own fun.

The games politics? There isnt anything relevant to modern day politics in this game (so far).

Just get a month of Ubi+ and play it till you get sick of it

Unable to follow any of the discussion since the release 'cause I've been too busy actually playing the game non stop. Now at level 45. It's the best AC ever, by a landslide. Not flawless but more on that later.

42.3 hours, no Yasuke yet lol. Think I'm gonna clock 100+.
Sounds about right if you go sidequesting and play without assisted modes, I got there way over 30 hours in. Incredible character.
