Take lots of pics of the steelbook when you get it.

On topic, the third person mode actually looks pretty nice, but I gotta imagine it's gonna be like the third person mode in TES games, janky animations.

I think I'm gonna stick with first person here, since that's what the game has been announced and marketed as primarily.

I mean COME ON! Just LOOK at that lighting! This is the way UE5 should be used IMO.

Lumen and Nanite can work wonders to bring strong art direction to life. The GI and light bounces especially.

Yeah, the games presentation has improved notably since earlier showings.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
The combat looks pretty meaty now, the ragdoll seems nice, i really don't need much else :lollipop_grinning_sweat:
You saying this fills me with hope.

I remember the combat looking like shit on the first reveal of the game. Seems like some improvements have been made?

It looks like a proper first person RPG in terms of bringing over the pseudo-DnD from Pillars and that alone fills me with some hope. Even if the action gameplay isn't great it could be interesting.

But from the little I've seen I do worry a bit about the characters and writing. Doubt we'll get interesting characters like the Avellone-written Durance from Pillars 1.

But I am desperate for actually great AA/AAA RPGs so I am hoping for the best.

Surprisingly, some previews have been pretty positive about characters, eg.

Exactly.

I would have been interested in it if it looked like PoE

But bringing a big sprawling open world with verticality, points of interests everywhere, can explore anywhere, in an even good looking package with RT lighting?
I mean what the hell, not even long ago I was backing PoE and hoping Obsidian doesn't die. I'm so glad they could finally make something like Avowed.

FWIW, town exploration also looks pretty nice.

Looks like it's a pretty decently well realized world, even if it may not be as big as Skyrim.

Hmm, not too bad actually. It looks quite a bit "better" than I thought after the first previews. The game almost looks like something I'd like to play now.

Does anyone know of this game has fully fledged level streaming, or does it have loading screens between areas..?

Looks better in the latest previews - size of game was never a worry for me, but the constrained RPG mechanics are my main gripe.

Not day 1, but it's on my list for sometime in 2025 - depending on reviews

Yeah his preview has probably eased a lot of my concerns, gameplay-wise.

Still not a fan of the art style tbh. Way too colorful for my liking.

Game can't reliably hit 4k60 on a 4090 tho.. Might need a few patches before I check it out.

I would agree with you in other cases, but this seems to be a pretty faithful 1 : 1 transition of PoE 2's art into 3D so I can't exactly fault them for it.

I'm just super attached to the initial teaser and how good it looked. :(

I think I have POE1, might put it on the Playlist for next year.

The Dawnshore area the preview was taking place in was seamless, from city to dungeons to whatever. But what we don't know yet is if these areas are "zoned" between each others. Personally, would be fucking cool that its all seamless

I think they've already said previously that the world is divided into big zones, not a single seamless land mass.

POE2 is better for character building
Hows the game overall? Being on a ship able to explore an archipielago sounds neat, but, does the game give the player freedom to do it as they like? Or is it some kind of BG2 deal were you unlock new locations as you advance through the story?

It’s good if you like building character classes. Much replayability in that regard.

The world/lore of Pillars is kinda dull and uninteresting IMO. It has its moments but nothing will stick with you. Tyranny is way more interesting because you’re role playing an evil character by default.

You can explore freely in POE2 once you unlock the ship and there’s lots to do. But it’s held back by boring lore and story that doesn’t drive you forward. It’s more a game to play for the combat and character building.

Edit: I have a woman on friend list who LOVES cRPGs. She wrote this scathing review back in 2018 lmao. Can't wait to read her review for Avowed.
Pillars of Sexuality
includes:

-- LBGT friendly themes, and I do mean friendly.
-- No Ageism - Creepy old men in bathhouses and creeping in your cabin.
-- Not to be confused with herosexual (player decided orientation)
or even where you chose whom to hit on.
-- No Misogyny (Goodbye Durance, Hello Amazon Women's World)
-- Enough token(isms) to take to Vegas.

Companions:

Hey I'm gay/bi/penguin loving - I had sex with X, Y, Z. I want you too, baby. (paraphrase)

Example of Writing:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1392784560
sibilant susurrus -- and why such phrases should be outlawed, a new mini-series

Examples of Combat: I'm old, have bad eyes, bad joints and other parts.
Playing Path of the Damned might be marginally more difficult than making breakfast.

Companion Depth
Non-existent

Pros:
-Character Building
-World
-Story games.

This game is for you if you don't mind being treated as having the intellect of a baboon (really not a fair statement for our simian brothers and sisters) or you're a regular reader of Teen Vogue and feel very mistreated by the world.

The game could be Ok with some tweaks and a few rewrites but given the attitude on the forums and past and current actions from Obsidian...I don't see that happening, much.
Otherwise, Obsidian has not stayed true to its original audience or even PoE 1.

FWIW, I haven't played the game for 250 hours. I leave it running when I fall asleep, which is frequently.

On a personal note: I'm a minority in my own right. And like minorities and non-minorities I hang with, I rather just be known as a person and treated/rewarded/etc. for what I do not whom I sleep with or my gender or ethnicity. To me this game is regressive NOT progressive.

As long as you know what you're getting into, buy the game or don't -- if you're forewarned at least you might have a better experience than I did, expecting PoE 1 ++

I dropped the first POE because of the constantore dumps.

Like when you find the crazy mage in the woods, dude just proceeded to tell me everything about himself and his religion. They should space that shit out a little bit, felt very overwhelming

It’s more a game to play for the combat and character building.
Sounds good enoughto me. Is the writting at least somewhat decent?

edit: lol I'm reading through your friend's review, wtf :goog_relieved:

lol... yeah, Pillars was overly verbose. Obnoxiously so. I stopped reading those novels pretty quick. Pillars 2 still has that but it isn't as bad.

It's decent for the genre. Feels like an Obsidian game of that era. Whether you find it interesting I can't answer that. I didn't.

She is amazing. Holds no punches.

Well, temporary favorite anyhow, after he was one of the few access media guys to call out Veilguard. "Shill Up" definitely has his detractors.

Here's my favorite line from (8:00): "Veilguard was very disappointing for a bunch of reasons, and it's impossible for me to not notice just how much Avowed is delivering in ways that Dragon Age did not." He is referring there to the quality of the writing and the range of dialog choices.

He also has good things to say about exploration and combat.

As he says, you can never know whether the full game holds up based only on a preview, but what we've got here is very encouraging. Good to hear!

Obsidian writing hits more often than it misses and multiple previews have praised the companion writing.

This really does look like the kind of fantasy WRPG we haven't had in a while.

I enjoyed my time with Veilguard but that game was practically Devil May Cry combat.

Skill up does a pretty good 1 : 1 on what didn't work in Veilguard that works here in his video. Worth a watch.
Just watched it, and it was pretty good. That guy’s clearly excited for the game. I myself have been a total skeptic (tbh never cared that much for Obsidian games..), but have now turned to a believer.

But seriously, what happened to those “screenshots” we saw a while back? The game today looks nothing like it, so wtf happened?
