Avowed | First Previews are coming up

People were also let down by the writing and how woke the game was, not sure if more time in the oven is gonna fix these type of problems if the writers are the same.

certainly more time and budget has a direct impact on the writing.
Some folks (and Reviewers) also complained about the combat being a bit lackluster and I read a few reviews calling the weapons ‘unimaginative’. Corners were certainly cut.

Maybe on the quantity but not sure how that impact quality or how woke it is.

Some of the most woke games in the market have huge budgets, if you writing team is woke, having 1000 yen or 200 mil budget change nothing.

Combat was onestly less annoying than the other flaws (you don't buy an obsidian game and expect doom combat) , it was just too easy if you explored a bit to find good weapons in the beginning, maybe they balanced things later, i played at launch.

I hope the do better because combat does look better now so i'm probably gonna buy the damn thing :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

i did, too. big mistake! now, every time i consider checking out the 'finished' version, just how shitty the whole game was comes flooding back, & I just can't do it...

I was underwhelmed. Combat didn’t look interesting. A lot of focus seemed to be finding stupid chests all over they had mediocre gear.

NPC dialogues that were shown were meh. Your party members have been streamlined so can’t share gear, etc…

You can also only be God born or whatever that race is called. Oh and I didn’t dig a lot of their approach to graphics palette.

I dunno, game seems kind of mid, but so was Outer Worlds so while disappointing, it makes sense. We will see what happens when the game actually releases, although as usual we won’t have solid numbers since it’s GamePass centric title.

We are living in some good times. PoE 2 looks amazing and this will be a nice change of pace to jump back and forth with. Isometric vs FP or 3rd, dark vs colorful, deep vs. nowhere near as deep but still fun combinations of moves, Souls/Diablo like vs. Skyrim like, Class and gender locked characters vs. a character creator, etc.

Also, I must not be in the know when it comes to this games release date because I don't know what games I'd rather play coming at the same time but the more the merrier!

Not feeling it to be honest although I appreciate the third person option so I’ll give it a try at least . Some of the NPCs have that odd blank look like in Starfield.

Damn what are these conversations? Cutting from one camera standpoint to another, and every time it does, something about the characters changes

Its so jarring and unpolished looking

Lol i was watching the preview of that matty dude, and boy oh boy, do i love when ytubers speak highly and praise stuff that literally every decent open world rpg does like it's something special :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Oh wow an enemy camp has more than one entrance and one is better for a stealth approach? the game has multiple weapons that you wanna try like swords, axes and guns? you can extensively speak with your companions? wait the game has a lot of builds potential? unbelievable :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Like cmon dude, at least don't sound so enthusiastic for basic ass stuff, and some of the best graphic he has seen lately? what?:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

This is why it's best to try a game by yourself or just watch a lot of footage, previews are even more useless than reviews except for the new footage they provide (the footage sold me on the game more than any praise from these dudes)

Hopefully and maybe the game feels really good to play.

We've had games in history with much more interesting first-person combat and magic than they showed in these previews. I'm not saying the combat is bad, I just don't see anything special in it at the moment.
Let me put it this way.

I love the open world action rpg genre, you add decent combat and decent graphic and probably decent rpg mechanics and i'm already in.

I'm not saying the game is doing anything special but it's good enough for me to buy it, i enjoy a lot of 7/10 games.

Considering that this game will be in Gamepass, it will not even be necessary to buy it. And so I am also going to try it, but I do not have any special feelings about this game yet, + I do not really like early previews since they are usually very closely monitored by the publisher, and I am quite alarmed by the moment when in the videos they praise moments that should in principle be in a normal RPG by default and not as something special, and the fight looks normal but so far in the review I have not seen anything special that would make it stand out from the crowd. + the game is coming out in perhaps the worst month of all possible, and I will either have to somehow find time for it between KСD2, Yakuza and Monster Hunter, or play it after all three of these =)))

Yeah, Matty gets excited about stuff pretty easily. I guess that's part of his appeal. From what I can tell, he gets goofed on in the comments section about it. I have some respect for him after the Veilguard review debacle, though.

I liked that he pointed out exploration and alternate paths/approaches were done well. You rightly point out that these are basic elements to a WRPG. But I was glad to hear it, because we have had two high-profile WRPGs recently (Starfield and Veilguard) that have failed on that count.

I guess it's a sad commentary that I feel happy to hear that basic WRPG features have been included in a WRPG. :messenger_grinning: But here we are.

I'm not a big fan of the art style, but I can adjust. I'm still undecided on story elements, including character and dialog. Haven't seen enough of that to get a feel. But the rest of the game looks good to me, at least so far.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Just finished watching Mattyp Mattyp 's video (are you really that same Matty P ?) he does great job covering both the positives and negatives he saw.

Kinda weird to hear about pop-in, maybe this is also using an earlier version of UE5, like STALKER, that doesn't do Nanite on foliage.

Otherwise, his commentary about the conversation system and character classes being really deep was very encouraging. It's been a long while since a deep fantasy WRPG like this.

Mark my fookin' words, this will be another one of "those" games where the gaming press® and usual green shills (like Clit) will hype to death only for the game to be mediocre in reality.
It just has "mid" written all over it.

...and before the usual green defence force comes at me, Stalker 2, while quite shite now will get there in 5-6 months (like the OG really) and Indiana Jones looks like a good, honest 7.5 - 8 game, but this one ? Nahhh, it's a generic mediocrity with a capital M since its 1st showing, there's absolutely not an original bone in it and looks like your run of the mill generic fantasy stuff.
Jesus, I bet you're the life and soul of a party.

Hogwarts Legacy exclusively used ‘They/them’ throughout the game and you enjoyed it.

If you’re going to do platform warring, say it with your chest instead of this performative handwringing because a character creator allows you pick your own pronouns.
I prefer to say it with my wallet.

I've heard in one of the previews that 3rd person view is also available. Now thats new to me.
Also kingdom come deliverance 2 is coming out almost at the same day like Avowed. Curious to see which one will get more players?

Well, I reluctantly ordered the steelbook edition. Not liking these prices.

I wanted to get a map. I don't think it is a cloth map.

Take lots of pics of the steelbook when you get it.

On topic, the third person mode actually looks pretty nice, but I gotta imagine it's gonna be like the third person mode in TES games, janky animations.

I think I'm gonna stick with first person here, since that's what the game has been announced and marketed as primarily.

I hope it comes with a really big map. I am getting tired of those dinky maps they have been packing with games lately.

Cheapo maps.

My bet is KC2, but really, these are going for slightly different audiences

The game looks uninspired I think. It does not give me the "wow look at that" moments. Also combat look weightless, which is never a good thing.

I'm a TOTAL sucker for vibrant, colorful art style combined with excellent lighting (RT GI, Nanite, etc.). I'd much rather play in a world that looks like this than in one with a "realistic" art style that even has the same lighting tech, such as The Matrix Awakens running on this same engine. That's a dogshit experience visually IMO, while this is so much more pleasant in real time.

It's why Fortnite with Lumen and Nanite cranked up can be jaw dropping despite the completely cartoony art.
