What does exploration have to do with the fact that this is game 100% trimmed down from TOW? And, yes, I beat TOW and have been playing Avowed for a week now. And for as great as the exploration in this game is, it's 99% mats you find and very little loot. Avowed is a first person action game with tons of parkour, it's a shit RPG.
I wouldn't say it's trimmed down. It feels like budget was put into other parts of the game and removed from the areas Obsidian traditionally focuses on. It was DEFINITELY scaled down from the original pitch, though.

The flaws became increasingly apparent for me last night when I entered Paradis for the first time and realized how dead it truly was. That was disappointing. But I came into Avowed expecting very little and I found an enjoyable combat/character system even if other aspects were not that great. But for an RPG, you are correct that this game is incredibly light in 2025. Hopefully the combat and character progression will be enough for me to stick with it.
So you have played the game, thoughts?

I kinda want to check it out because I read some of my trusted sources and it seems the woke elements are no where close to the level of Veilguard. How's the game itself?

I know you didn't ask me, but as far as I can tell there is very little in terms of "woke". I mean - all the women seem to have no bust and there are more than maybe is average, but seems pretty fine to me. There is the pronoun thing, but it is togglable. Perhaps there's more later, but it doesn't really seem like it. Game itself is fun.

That sounds good. Thanks for the input man!

I'm about 4 or 5 hours in. The "woke" is being overdramatized heavily, imo. The combat is really good. First person and third person are equally good to me so I'm sticking with third. The story is either just not good or it is slow in getting somewhere. But I haven't done any of the companion quests and actually only have one companion so far so I'm really not far enough in to really give an overall verdict on the narrative at this point. I've mentioned the flaws, but I'm still looking forward to playing more. I like the weapons and the fact that you can put character points anywhere you want and you are not forced down a "class" path such as warrior, wizard, etc. Some stuff that is done in other games such as stamina where you can only sprint so far or ammo that you have to replenish are not here. I'm actually liking that. I'm sprinting everywhere and shooting like I got a gotdang arrow factory on my back. That's really all I can say at this point.

This is definitely a game pass game. What I mean is.....don't spend $70 on it if you can get a month of GP and play it that way. This is not a deep game like a Skyrim where you can explore forever.

Honestly I'm having a good time with the game but the flaws are plain as day.

As for "woke" elements, I've only really noticed it in some of the character design. But it's not as bad as it was in Outer Worlds, where every woman (even the AI) looks like a lesbian.

There are a ton of girl bosses in the game. Like every military leader is female pretty much. I also find a lot of the female soldiers come off as chipper and modern in their voice direction. Culture also seems all over the place in the game, especially in Paradis. There seem to be more shared cultures in the later regions, though.

EDIT: Also... Giatta is a babe at least.

I downloaded it a few days ago. I couldn't make it much farther than the character presets. What the fuck were they thinking?

U think hardworking veterans wanna have much/anything to do with that bunch of "work life balance" feminist mindset individuals?
Any1 with half a brain either left company or worked halfheartedly coz they all knew game cant be any good.
Back when we saw announce trailer every1 was hopeful and hyped af, u can see by views (1,9m) and like/dislike ratio 47k/752

You're a godlike in the Pillars of Eternity universe. That's just how they look to some extent. It's not exclusive to this game suddenly. They looked bad, IMO, in the older games too.

Has nothing to do with any of that. Unless you're saying these are also responsible for Pillars of Eternity universe designs that released back in 2015, therefore in development years before that (kickstarter). Totally possible, but I don't think Pillars of Eternity is widely considered a "woke" game.

Yeah, this is the biggest thing that stands out to me - I pointed it out earlier in one of the threads. It is weird, but it's not too bad all things considered. Culture is "all over the place" because Paradis is the major port, various cultures have set up there for various reasons - ex criminals, frontiersmen, etc.. they talk about it constantly. Unless I misunderstood what you were saying.

Yeah I'd say give it a go, the 'omg so woke' thing was as you'd expect, severely overblown pre-release. The fact that you don't see anyone sharing any pics/videos showing stuff like that in the game almost 10 days from release should be evidence enough.

It's a good fantasy WRPG, safe but good.

When u making AAA 70$ game, u gotta grind hard, mercilessly, then grind some more, u cant work like most women tend to work, let them be kindergarten teachers/nannies and other jobs that dont require apex predator mindset and total devotion to ur work since most of them dont want and arent capable of such sacrifices, us men do, coz we need resources to make ourselfs attractive/worthy of attracting potential mate.
For women their education/career/work/ambition has 0(and i mean literally 0) bearing on attractiveness to opposite sex, it can actually make them less attractive(coz there is high risk such a woman gets masculine treats, which are obviously extremly unatractive to most straight men), hence they usually dont take their work super seriously and dont devote everything possible to it, like men do- its do or die for us otherwise we drastically reduce our chances to attract opposite sex.

Eh, it's subjective. I personally wasn't a fan of the wild looks for these sorts of characters, but I love Pillars regardless and I don't have to like every character/race/culture type - it would probably be boring if I did! Except Quina. I hate Quina in FF IX. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Hey man, Quina is probably the most OP party member in mainline FF, and I thought it was kinda hilarious how nobody could figure out which gender pronoun to use. And I kinda relate to a character whose ultimate goal is to travel the world and eat everything.

Double if you're french, cause Quina's favorite food is Frogs :messenger_grinning_sweat:

All those don't sound bad, downloading the game now.

From that teaser to generic colourful slop fantasy. This will always be a what if for me.

Does nobody want to model long hair anymore? This is a ploy by Big Hair to have less hair for more haircuts

Okay I don't want to upset my man Kacho, canceling downloading now.

Lol, jokes aside. Just checking it out on game pass. Mainly because some Chinese reviewers I trust as well as one my of friends say it actually doesn't have much of wokeness in game.

You know me, I think Steam user reviews are convincing than the press score. If it stays at 80% then the game probably worth taking a look.

The cultures are mixed to the point of them not even existing in Paradis, though.

Avowed vs Oblivion videos have dropped. I wish the guys in the OT would come clean on this. It's hurting the culture.

Come clean on what? That this game has a lot of flaws and stuff missing that has been in games for many years past? That's been pointed out by a few of us in the OT already.

Here is some videos for you

Yes. The combat is where the game truly shines.
