To me, that says PS+/XBL will be needed, so nothing new really.

No but there are complainers who know what the game series is about, know who the characters are, and are being disingenuous with their criticisms because it's an internet message board so they can complain at will about anything. Of course there's going to be newbies to the franchise that will wonder what the tone represents and some faithful that don't like the new trailer, I'm not saying that. but really if you're at all rational you'll understand what the difference is between a preorder hype trailer and a full on media blitz designed to give you a reason to care. Do you really think this trailer was meant to woo the casuals? It got the core hyped, we've all preordered now, and now we finish age of triumph while we wait for the gameplay demo in may. People new to the franchise will get all the info they need between E3 and release.

Knowing who the characters are doesn't mean they can't have an opinion on the comedic tone of the trailers, Bungie wasn't forced to make Cayde the focus of both of them after all, they chose to represent their game that way.

As for the rest of your post, again you're saying that this trailer is only meant "for the core", and therefore those outside of the core aren't allowed to have an opinion on it. That's all you're saying, it doesn't matter what kind of trailer this is or what they'll show later, you're implying that because some aren't immediately hyped and ready to pre-order they're wrong.

You need xbl or PSN to play. There might be microtransactions. That's it.

It's more Destiny and the story is about the Cabal making the Tower go boom. I'm not sure what more you need the trailer to say. It's not like they're going to go into changes in the loot system, class progression, world scale, etc..

I had accepted that it was just going to be another cgi thing. But I did expect it to give me a better idea of what Destiny 2 would be. This trailer litterally tells me nothing new from the teaser other than who the bad guy is, and that there are dog enemies.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Just watched the trailer. Not super effective from a "get hypeed for a huge new game!" perspective, but a fun watch. I got a tingle from the last bit where warlock lady was snarky to Cayde. Straight Firefly right there.

Also, people complaining about how Cayde wasn't a silly jokey guy before TTK need to remember that, before TTK, Destiny literally did not have characters (other than I guess Emo girl from Dark Below and a couple of others). They had functional NPC's with forgettable bits of token dialogue, but no one I would actually consider a character in a story. I can forgive them for over-correcting a bit when they realized they had an asset like Fillion to work with.

I'm hoping Destiny gets a M rating. I want to see the series get grittier but keeping it at T will be a lot more profitable for Bungie and Activision.

The Dark Below and House of Wolves didn't go free with purchase of TTK? Could have swore they did

No. You had to buy the TTK Legendary Edition for TDB and HoW

Ikora and Cayde have some fun banter in the reimagined Nexus strike also.

Again, it might just be one character. But he's been used to set the tone for both the teaser and initial trailer. I think it's ridiculous that some people are acting almost offended that some people might look at those and maybe make some assumptions of the tone of the game.

There's also been people who looked at the leaked poster and other things and thought that it looked like the game might be going for a somewhat more dark and gritty feeling this time around.

People will make assumptions based on what they are shown, that's just how it works.

That only works when you are selective about what you chose to focus on.

What have we seen so far?

-A city under siege in near ruins

-Tons of Guardians downed and under rubble

-A terrifying new-ish threat

-Loss of the tower and all those inside

-Heck we even get a glimpse of a new enemy type and dog-like creatures

But instead, some people have chosen latch on to a character that is quipping and decided to run with that for the tone.

There is quite a bit to dissect in the trailer regarding setting, hub worlds, social areas etc

Only the MP maps became free.

I think you needed to buy both expansions to even play TTK. I forgot but there were options with certain bundles etc.

I understand what you're saying and hey the comedic tone will turn some off. That's ok though, you can't please everyone. Making Cayde the focus is easy because his comedic timing works and it engages people. Again it's not for everyone but well not sure what to say about that. There's always going to be people who don't like something. What I'm referring to are people who understand who the character is and why he's like that but complain about it because it's destiny so let's bitch about it. You know who these people are. They're just drive by bitchers and I was just telling him to ignore them. There's so much to digest from the trailer but they choose to latch onto that one aspect like it's the entirety of the presentation.

The trailer works because it's a hype trailer. We'll find out just how effective it was when we get preorder numbers.

Destiny 2 should be a fucking event. This trailer feels like another expansion, if that.

That's why we are getting gameplay reveal in May.

They are taking the Call of Duty approach. You get a story/teaser trailer that gives you an idea what the game is about character/story wise. Then they show you another trailer with some of the in-game story beats with snips of gameplay mixed in at a later date.

COD does the same thing.

The Dark Below and House of Wolves didn't go free with purchase of TTK? Could have swore they did

After TTK all they sold was a bundled edition that included TDB and HOW, I assume you're thinking of that? You could still buy the base game + expansions if you wanted to.

Was hoping for new classes, but it seems we'll be getting the same Titan, Warlock, Hunter with new sub-classes all over again...

So far it seems like an old car with a fresh coat of paint.

Hope the gameplay proves otherwise, but so far not too excited...

What's your cut-off point for "drive by bitchers"? Because it seems to have gone from "anyone with a negative opinion on the trailer" to something very specific.

As for the trailer working, that's subjective; the trailer didn't work for me but it can work for others.

Oh shit guys!

I think I pre ordered the wrong version and that's why I don't have a theme?

Did not see the deluxe version at first and now I can't pre order it because I already ordered a different version.

How can I cancel my pre order?

Pretty sure that just means you'll have to pay for Xbox live gold or Playstation plus for online features.

Yeah you could buy a "legendary edition" when TTK came out that was TTK and both DLCs for $40 or something.

If you had all that stuff, you could still get TTK digital for $20 IIRC

E: Also, it might be $20 now, but it was $40 at launch for that bundle
The Legendary Edition was $60 and replaced the base game army retail and on digital marketplaces. And since the DLC was mandatory to play TTK it ended up being cheaper to buy that bundle and technically own the base game twice than just buying the DLC and TTK. $40 just got you TTK and the option was completely unavailable at retail and was impossible to purchase digitally if you didn't own the first two DLCs.

I mean its just stuff in the grimoire . There is a ton to explore there

Trials of Osiris is a PvP mode but the in-game character Osiris ( whose symbol is used for Trials ) is tied to the Vanguard, Speaker, and Traveler. It'll likely flesh out the PvP mode but I doubt that's the only thing there, it's likely you track him down and meet him. He was deep into the 'why do we fight for the Traveler' mantra and studied the Vex quite a lot.

Osiris is a Warlock, he has a story with the Vex, i think.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I've never really read the grimoires. Hopefully they'll be accessible in the game the next time.

Everything you mention there just help Cayde's comedy routine stand out even more as contrast.

Not to mention several of your points are scenes 2-3 seconds long. While Cayde was talking for pretty much have the trailer, and almost all of the teaser.
