Didn't care for the trailer but still very curious. Part of me wants to rush and preorder, another sees the expansion I and II and wants to run the fuck out. I'm ALMOST thinking saying fuck it and dropping the 60 bucks just to see what lessons Bungie learned from the first game.

Trailer was pretty fun. Not at all what I expected though, lol.

I really should get around to doing the expansions for Destiny some day.

I just Pre-oder the Collectors edition on my local gamestop. They were like 10 people wanting to pre-order. This game is going to be huge.

I don't get why the comparison for the space cowboy jokester played by Nathan Fillion who is wandering around with Gina Torres is Deadpool instead of Mal from Firefly.

Was?

Were the classes in Destiny 2 already announced?

Box Art and trailer suggest Titan, Hunter, Warlock will still return. I posted above a leak that suggest Shield Titan, Spear Hunter and Sword Warlock which would all be new sub classes.

Ultimately I think the classes are going to be more diverse this time around regardless if that leak is true or not. I feel destiny could lean into the Tank, DPS, Healer and Support roles more with classes.

The Deadpool- Cayde comparisons has to go down as the most idiotic hot-take yet. Cayde was like this in TTK (2015) Deadpool came out a year later.

Oh, and because ONE character shows some levity doesn't mean Destiny is now Comedy.

FUCKING HELL...

Deadpool has existed since 1991. And everyone cheered when Cayde broke the 4th wall. That's not "one" character. That's a whole crowd of them.

Are they sticking with just 3 classes with sub classes?

Because one of the main things I hoped for in the sequel was a few entirely new classes.

Watch Dogs 1 to 2
Far Cry 2 to 3
Assassins Creed 1 to 2

(outside of Ubisoft)

Borderlands 1 to 2
GTA4 to 5
Could toss in the change in most Bioware games tone over the years into this bucket too.

Devs get called out for being a bit dry so they just add a bunch of PERSONALITY and in-jokey that isnt bad on its own but its been done it so many times that it feels so unnatural and predicable. Probably because the target audience for is so similar so writers are probably told to just browse r/gaming and come up with a script to appeal to that audience.

I'm not really sure what you're accusing them of at this point. Adding another more characters? FC2 took place in a war-torn setting and FC3 was on an island with a little less dour tone but wasn't full of memes or something. Same for those other games with the exception of Borderlands 2.

Yes, it will be a loot grind. That's essentially the entire point of the game. Yes you will need the DLC to continue progressing. If you don't want to do either of those, Destiny is not the game for you. End of story.

Not necessarily if they make a meaty campaign that's motivation is beyond dangling carrots with a well thought out story and characters I would happily step back into it. If it has that, then the lows of the loot grind would be mitigated and there's other things to do to supplement my time when I don't want to crank the wheels of loot. Plus I don't like having to buy expansions to play the base game, locking you out of 80% of the exp like they did with Halo's MP back in the day is rather dumb.

If anything it seems like a robot Reynolds, yeah.

But then again Fillion is the best. Voice alone is enough to sell me on a game. Give me all the voice.

Because Deadpool is a huge recent movie and Firefly was a niche series that lasted less than a dozen episodes in the 90s. Agreed though, although I would say he's less Mal and more Nathan Fillion because Nathan Fillion only really plays one character-type.

it's not dumb, it's just not for you. it's smart business for them, and for the huge amount of people who love the game, it's seen as a great way to keep the game alive, and a great overall value.

so i didn't play destiny and i know nothing about its lore, is there a place where i can read about it?

this 2 characters are from two different factions?

from an outsider perspective this cgi trailer is there just to please both sides the gaming community

In even the most optimistic case, the campaign would last maybe... 30 hours? After that, the game will be what essentially every MMO type game is at max level. Doing the same activities multiple times in order to get loot. That is the gameplay loop of the entire genre. If that doesn't appeal to you, then I just recommend playing something else.

And the Destiny expansions did not lock you out of anywhere near 80% of the content if you didn't buy them. The campaign, open world maps, strikes, crucible maps and modes, gear and raid of the base game were always accessible to you. You couldn't participate in the new content or some endgame activities that updated with level, that is all.

I honestly think a large portion of people's unhappiness with Destiny comes from a lack of experience in the MMO genre. This is the way these games work. If you don't want to run dungeons and raids over and over to get loot, and do PVP on the side for other loot, the game is not for you. It is not The Witcher 3, no matter how much you want it to be, and it is not trying to be that. Destiny could have provided more content, yes, but the overall experience wasn't going to drastically change from what it was regardless.

Same faction, just different attitudes. They are all members of the vanguard.

http://www.ishtar-collective.net is best organized collection of Destiny lore.

Cayde-6 (robot) is Hunter and kinda their leader.

Ikora (black woman) is Warlock and kinda their leader.

Zavala (blue dude in armor) is Titan and kinda their leader.

All three serve same purpose and goal, guiding Guardians and protecting humanity from external threats like Vex, Hive and Cabal. There is factions within humanity like Dead Orbit, but Cayde, Ikora and Zavala aren't part any of them.

No it is dumb for a consumer perspective because you basically have to keep buying all the expansions to even play the base game. It's not great value if you have to keep putting money into a game to still access stuff that was available to you at launch. Yeah keeps the game alive and the community that still plays it, but not all expansions are going to add value or are made equal. Such as the first two DLC packs and Rise of Iron compared to what the Taken King expansion did for Destiny 1.

Because deadpool created snarky humor and nobody else is allowed to make a different comparison.

I'm forever alone, of they don't have matchmaking in all modes I won't buy. It's the reason my copy of Destiny is collecting dust

Its not a comedy routine that is his natural cadence. He is not doing an open mic night in front of the crumbling city - he's trying to rally guardians - hence the contrast with the more serious Zavala who actually underlines the seriousness of the situation.

Cayde is at the forefront because he is a fan favourite and one of the only characters in the Destiny universe with some personality.

Yeah that's right, that's just how he is (though it's definitely been cranked up a notch or two over time). He's the comic relief character of Destiny.

And right he's the most promiment character of Destiny 2. His appearance in both the teaser and trailer has made them come of as light hearted in nature, I really can't see anyone seriously trying to deny that, crumbling ruins or not. Whether that tone translates transfers over to the actual game, I have not a clue. But I can absolutely understand if people watch the teaser and freaking trailer for the game, and assume that they represent what to expect in Destiny 2.

Anyway I don't really think I can make my position more clear than that.

I was obviously referring to the film which has now popularised the character, because I am willing to bet that is the first exposure of Deadpool to a LOT of people in here who are making the lazy comparisons.

Oh, and a making a meta-joke is not the same as breaking the 4th wall.

most people who play this game put tons of playing time into it (and believe it or not, they enjoy it). for these people. paying 20-40 for an expansion every few months is an amazing bang for the buck compared to your average video game. if you don't like the time sink that the game is, then okay? that's fine, but it not "dumb", because a ridiculously large amount of people enjoyed the format of a vanilla game and then several necessary expansions.

Have only read OP but here's a couple of thoughts on the possible content of the expansions.

Exp. 1: That's Osiris' symbol. Popular theory suggests that The Stranger was working with him in D1 so she may actually find time to tell us what she didn't have time to tell us.
Exp. 2: Appears to be a warmind symbol. Back when they were working on VoG it was leaked that they were working on a Cabal raid on Mars in Charlemagne's vault - Charlemagne being the Martian warmind. We may finally see this raid in exp. 2.

Destiny Lore is complicated. Part poorly told via the game part amazingly well told via an external source called The Grimoire but the Grimoire is mostly history stuff.

Here is the basics.

Earth tech was elevated to a new height via a mysterious sphere called the Traveller.
It granted "light" an energy source (like the force) to the people of earth, the robots they built and a 3rd form of humanoid known as the "awoken"

3 core groups of light empowered individuals exists The Titans , The Warlocks and The Hunters. The serves as the games classes an all work together to protect the last city of earth existing below the Traveller.

Various bad guy forces exist, The heavily militarized aliens called the Cabal (present in the trailer), The Fallen a species previously uplifted via the Traveller then abandoned, The Hive a multidimensional mostly biological species and finally the The Vex a race of machines from an unknown point in the future travelling back in time trying to intertwine their own existence with the fabric of creation.

The bald guy in the trailer is the Titan leader an awoken called Zavala and the Robot is the Hunter leader, A Exo (human built robot) called Cayde-6 (the 6th suit for his intelligence) The Black woman is the Warlock leader.
