For those getting the PC version, are you conflicted about missing out on PS4 exclusives? I want the PC version but I also want PS4 exclusives. Nerd agony.

After playing Destiny on PS4, fuck no. I'd prefer to never play a 30 FPS... FPS ever again if I can help it. There's no exclusive bauble worth that.

Just watched it... what happened to Destiny? They had such lofty aspirations. Explore, regain your place in the galaxy.

Now what's left? They leveled the mythology and removed any sense of gravitas. Yeah, they destroyed your last beacon of hope. Let's fight for loot.

Such a dudebro tonal shift....

It's gross but people just accept these kind of things nowadays. "You don't have to buy it" or whatever thing they say. Capitalism is great!

Yup. These expansions better not be the barebones crap that the original expansions were, but we'll see.

Yeah, doesn't give me much hope that they've learned from Destiny 1. Seems like they're just catering to those who didn't care about there being no story in Destiny, and enjoy the lootgrind only.

I think a lot of people, including myself, just thought the severe juxtaposition between Cayde-6's goofball antics and Zavala's speech about people and families dying created a strange tone, especially when presented in a short 2 minute trailer. I feel like Bungie should've just leaned one way or the other, like with their teaser trailer.

That's what Destiny is, though.

It's about massive, 'Light vs Dark', end of days, surviving on a frontier mentality combined with a lot of levity at the sheer silliness of the concept in itself.

Stopped at GameStop on my way to work.

Pre-ordered both the Limited Edition and the Collector's Edition (just in case I'm not able to get anything pre-ordered at Amazon or Best Buy).

Walked out with an adorable Cayde-6 figure.

Requested a vacation day for September 8.

I'm good.
I'm taking paid time off from that Friday to the following Friday. No regrets. 🙏

I think I should pick up the complete edition of the first Destiny just to go through everything so I don't feel out the loop because I am interested if this one turns out to be great

I get it, I really really do. However I spent 2000+ hours in Destiny and watched the cinematic's once each. (well more then that in vanilla because I couldn't skip that shit) I think there will be a decent narrative to drive you forward but I would not expect a huge sweeping story.

It's still very much that? I don't see how this trailer is any different from the tone that was set with TKK and onwards.

I don't use any of the exotic exclusives enough to really care. Plus the strikes that are exclusive... not the be all end all.

I'm fine when th going to PC.

I thought it sucked when I played on xbox. Especially with one of the better handcannons being exclusive. But on the other hand, being able to play with friends will always be the defining factor for me.

But, why is Destiny that? Shouldn't we expect more from the guys who created one of the best sci-fi stories in gaming?

That's true, it just seems really on the nose in the trailer. I think there are clever ways of weaving humor and lightheartedness into a larger epic and mysterious story (Destiny 1, despite not having a story, actually did this pretty well. Zelda games do this incredibly well, too). But the trailer just seemed too over the top. I think that's all people are getting at

I said something similar after the the teaser released and everyone freaked out. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

wow they probably couldn't have made a more off putting trailer for me. I don't even remember if I beat the first Destiny or not. No chance in hail I buy this

Forbes put it right

If this is anything like the original game, it means that PS4 players will get access to Strikes and gear that won't be available to Xbox One players (and, perhaps, PC players?) until a later date. In practice, this means that certain content is gated off from the entire player base, because those PS4 exclusive Strikes are never Nightfall Strikes and vendors like Xur never sell PS4 exclusive items.

Meanwhile, non-PS4 gamers are walled off from the content entirely, and with each new DLC find themselves more and more in the dust for no good reason other than a financial deal between Activision and Sony. It's silly and it sucks...

...So it's deeply disappointing to see that this farce continues with Destiny 2. This was a good opportunity for the series to ditch exclusivity deals and focus on making the best game experience possible for players on whatever platform. What a shame.

However more frames > strikes but its good
/s
to see that moneybags still talks.

If the former is mostly for PVP players, there's no reason for me to buy the season pass.

Both expansions are a mixture of both. That's what is so excited about it actually: the expansion will likely have an Osiris-related campaign.

That's awesome.

The Deadpool- Cayde comparisons has to go down as the most idiotic hot-take yet. Cayde was like this in TTK (2015) Deadpool came out a year later.

Oh, and because ONE character shows some levity doesn't mean Destiny is now Comedy.

FUCKING HELL...

All games and movies that have humor are now ripping off Deadpool, didn't you hear?

I completely get what you're saying, but I feel like the trailer lacked any sort of middle-ground between those two extremes you're describing, which again, leaves a strange tone for a trailer, especially for a person who hasn't played Destiny before. But again, it's just a trailer, I'm still stoked for Destiny 2.

That trailer didn't work for me. It played like a spoof of the first game's somewhat po-faced tone, with a character taking the piss out of it. If that was intentional, it says a lot about where this game is headed.

Oh, I'll just be getting a single Collector's Edition. Multiple pre-orders and pre-ordering the Limited Edition is all just a failsafe.

After getting screwed on the BotW CE, I'm taking all precautions.

You can have levity without overpowering the serious side. If you cut your trailer like a comedy trailer then your game is going to come across as a comedy. Generally, even when a series has many comedic elements, it doesn't focus on them in the first trailer if it's not meant to be seen as more light in tone than dark. As someone said this seems more like a close-to-launch pre-order commercial than the reveal trailer for an epic space opera.

Nope. Get to play in glorious 100+ fps and that will be important than exclusives in the long run.

Cayde has no place in the serious sci-fi dance party that is the Destiny universe.

It's pretty weird. It's certainly weirder than the Halloween celebrations where you wear masks of the villains that murdered countless numbers of guardians. "Hey, Eris, I'm dressed like the dude who killed all your friends!" Super serious stuff. Just expect the story stuff to still be garbage and vary wildly between the launch games and DLCs as different studios pop in and out.

I see they're going with the expansion pass again which will probably be two shit shows again.

Burnt on the first and their overpriced expansions. Hope it's a new engine but wont be day one or even for awhile tbh.

Did the story ever say what the darkness was what everyone was running from lol?

It is when everyone cheers, despite having their friends killed and homes destroyed. That action only makes sense if they are responding to "loot" the way the audience would, rather than their characters.

Theses guardians face death every single day, their earth has been taken over for centuries by Fallen and Hive and they only have a one city where they call home, which in Destiny 2 is gone( Let alone the Taken, Vex, Siva Fallen, and Cabal living in their solar system threatening their lives. Guardians don't have families, and if you'e like Cayde-6 you have lived hundreds if not thousands of years(Some in complete solace) Friends dying is as common as the sun risingsetting

Sometimes a drink and loot is the only thing that gets them going.

That's what I was worried about.

Everyone made fun of Bungie for having no personality in the first game and now they've overcompensated to the other side.

Seems like some people in here didn't play TKK and RoI and are wondering where this tone came from. That shift happened a while ago, after House of Wolves.
