DF - Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: PS5 Pro vs PS5 - A Vast Improvement At 60FPS

This game does not not have FSR. This is DF being part of IGN racket and doing PR to get early access to PRO stuff.

So wait the Fidelity PS5 version of this ran at Native 4K with no upscaling whatsoever? Surely that can't be true.

I want to see what the Fidelity mode looks like on PS5 Pro, but I suppose if it was alteady native 4K they're wouldn't be any difference, supersampling could be applied I guess?
Nope. It was mostly native 4k with some dynamic resolution but DF mostly only counted native 4k most of the time.

There likely wont be a fidelity mode on the pro since DF werent given footage of that. other games like alan wake 2 had both modes in the footage provided.

Do you want me to highlight parts of the image?
You can highligth what you want, it doesn't change what John is pointing out regarding IQ.

Let me say that I am surprised to see that someone like you, whom I consider mature and sensible and with good knowledge of the matter, believes that making evaluations based on still images is enough to evaluate and draw conclusions about IQ in games today. But OK.

That's Oliver.

Still images should show what he is talking about, he said without a lot of camera movement.

I'm just not seeing the image break-up compared to graphics mode. He's another shot.

If I was in the market for a 4070 PC vs a PS5 pro, I'd go with the pro. We're like half way through the console cycle (if that?) and look how long it took Sony to move past releasing PS4 games. PS6 will be even slower to get going.
If it wasn't for Sony bringing exclusives to PC I'd probably be picking this up, but a rather hefty backlog and seemingly increased cadence of exclusives landing on PC makes it a bit redundant (also the 4090 helps).

Lol, I don't know why Oliver said hair look worst on the pro vs fidelity base on 1 scence but the rest of footage disputes this. The hair on the Pro look much better especially in motion where the fidelity suffer from fuzziness and break up.

Awesome, well no point in a Fidelity mode if it looks better in the 60fps mode on PS5 Pro, hurrah no more horrendously framey special attack animations and high input lag.

Though quality hoe in me wants to see what a higher internal res PSSR version would look like hahaha.

Massive transformative difference, its like u would go from blurry af xbox one 720p to if not native 4k then solid 1800p on high end pc and get stable 60fps on top, if most games show this kind of difference 920 euro pr0 is worth its price =]

So your eyes and ears don't work? Is that what you're telling me?

No, still images are a terrible way of showing off temporal stability. You need to see it in video form as temporal stability refers to how the temporal data is added in from previous frames. It's a measure of how it preserves image quality across frames in a sequence, still images won't capture that.

I gotta admit this PSSR is looking impressive on this game, better than native at times :messenger_smirking:

its funny. i never had an issue with gt sports running at 1800p cb on the pro. i thought it looked clean and crisp on my 4k tv.

did play forza at native 4k 60 fps since dlss was broken at launch and that was so clean i was salivating.

I was usually impressed with checkerboarding on Pro, especially 60fps stuff like GT Sport. The PS5 patches for most of Sony's 1st party games that added 60fps modes cleared up most of the visual issues with more frames to work with thinking back. Its a shame its been largely forgotten in the lead up to PSSR, outside of Capcom I guess, but it would probably look horrific with these 720p base resolutions.

Maybe I'm just ignorant to what he's talking about, I don't see it.

This is the section where he mentions it. There's a lot more ghosting on the graphics mode.

The top image is PS5 Pro and second is PS5?

Can we take a poll and see how many people watch this on their 4k TV vs their smartphone/tablet?

I am sure the percentage people watch this on their 4k TV on here vs Twitter is way higher.

I watched this on my 4K LG OLED and even with YouTube compression factored in the difference was huge.

Look at the clarity in the strands of her hair. Not to mention the rest of the image is much more crisp and small details now can be seen and not blurred.

The reason why I am asking this question is some of the twitters take are unhinged lol and I am guessing here most of them watch this on their phone.

PSSR sounds way better than I thought! its mind-blowing to me that Sony engineers always outdo their AMD counterpart at almost everything 😅

Hopefully SE takes the time to improve some general textures and assets too. Those horrid mountain textures are only gonna stand out more with sharper IQ.

This is the use case for the pro, games with crap image quality. I imagine Sony didn't want to to throw their partners under the bus in the official showcase, but obviosuly the difference wasn't going to be vast in games thta already looked quite good. This what most of us had in mind from the specs and for me this is an easy buy for games like Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, most UE5 stuff etc. The list will only keep growing for the base machine.

^Agreed, the ps5 pro is a very good option for people who don't want to get a PC.

I got a PC and I will definitely be picking it up just because I don't want to wait 2 years to play first/second party games especially if I can get 60 fps on day 1 with the pro.

Its too early to assume PSSR is taking up the extra 45% compute. These are all old titles and the devs may not have the resources or encouragement to go back and do more.

The end of the video shows Pro has a locked 60fps in combat compared to low 50s of base PS5 witch means theres headroom but we dont know how much.

Cerny never disappoint boys. He said he will make choosing between Performance/Quality easier for us... and he goddamn delivered like always!!

That PSSR magic is impressive!

Where is the Preorder button Sony?

Man the temporal stability doesn't look bad at all to me everything is crisp especially compared to the base console there's tons of ghosting on that. I also didn't see what was wrong with the hair and jacket lol I guess it's a good thing it doesn't bother me.

To detect these types of situations and their degree of visibility you need to the game in action. The other thing is to question and doubt DF.
The fact is that what is described is not something strange, because it has already been identified in many of the games with PSSR already analyzed.
Have your own opinion maybe?

For a second, forget whatever John/Oliver said. Take a look at the following image and tell me you don't see an improvement in the right image when compared to the middle one.

Own opinion?? If someone decides that getting an opinion from static images is sufficient and correct to determine the IQ of a game in times where scaling and ML formulas have been used for a long time... it is simply because they do not know how these work.

Not to mention that entering to give my opinion is questioning and casting doubt on DF's direct impressions, which have much more basis than anyone else here.
I suppose that for those who, like you, hate DF as a source, it is not a problem to question them🤷

Who is bending to a corporate overlord? People are impressed and excited about new tech, isn't it why we are all here and discuss our hobbies rather than be TikTok or Instagram comment section normies?

This doesn't have to be an emotional 'fight the power moment,' as you are literally propping up a literal cooperate overlord in Nvidia at the same damned time calling them "God Tier."

Come on, son.
I called DLSS Top tier. So apparantly people have right to be excited but cannot be disappointed. Who is naming name here 'Fight the power moment' Son, not me.

I hope this settles the debate. It shows what the PS5o is capable of and how important a dev's application of the hardware is.
If I learned anything from my 35 years gaming is Sony has always been trying their best to advance this industry with all means and might!

PS1, Eyetoy, PS2 (crazy VUs), PS3 Cell, SSD ( unheard of speed) PS5 (I/O block) PSPortal, 3D audio, VR space...etc

And now testing the waters with PSSR in a midgen console stop gap with a mighty impressive results that are better than everything AMD puts and on par with Nvidia latest!

You don't see MS doing the same or Nintendo even trying to get out their safe space

Awesome, it appears early impressions are echoing what Cerny was trying to convey, no longer having to compromise between fidelity and performance modes on console.

To my eyes the PS5 Pro mode looks even better visually than the previous 30fps graphics mode, AND at a more stable framerate than the previous performance mode.

Pretty much exactly what I was hoping for, and it's still so early.

Now I want to see how Dragon's Dogma II performs on the Pro.

It looks super impressive but I can't help but feel it's highlighting how bad the standard ps5 version is more than anything. I'd be pissed to have played this on ps5 peasant.

So I know MLID hit and miss here but his earlier pro leak is legit, so this gives him more credibility than other topic.

He was saying Sony Just update PSSR recently from 9.0 to 9.4 because of image quality/stability issue. Maybe this related to Oliver talking about here regarding to PSSR. Well, we will see in a bit more than a month.

This is why PSSR is crucial to PS5 Pro. Each iteration of PSSR here will bring in more image quality/clarity improvements when most upscale techniques on console appear to be dead end, so the comparison to thr based consoles even more lopsided.

I like how at your convenient they become shill in other threads.

lol...what? That doesn't make sense, but if you are implying that I've called them shills when it is "convenient" then you are quite wrong. I've even defended them from being called biased. The most I've said is that they are journalists first and can be sensationalist, but that doesn't mean they are wrong.

I just think it is hilarious that you can throw a rock in here and hit someone calling DF shills for completely different reasons.
