Once again GAF is proving its in pockets of Youtubers/Influencers.

Reading OT, it has minimal “controversial” stuff. Just same amount as BG3. It was however paraded front and centre, basically everywhere.

Just because of that, this game is being ridiculed.

Pathetic.
It's not 1 single thing that people dislike this game for, but all its flaws put together.
Lecturing the player about pronouns. Not being dark fantasy anymore. Having terrible marvel type dialogue and NPCs talking to each other like they're toddler.
Combat taking a complete action route without much depth. It's all this combined.

Its all corporate shit from the publishers. In the old days they would control access to review copies to people who would give high scores and blacklist people who stepped out of line, but it wasn't popular. Now they can do the same, say they are on a crusade to banish the "bad people" from gaming, and get glazed by the influencers on their "team" for being heroes.

I wonder why despite having the same "controversial" stuff, BG3 is universally more beloved and successful than Veilguard?

Could it be that it has vastly superior writing and just a better game in every regard? Could it be that they achieves inclusiveness naturally without being preachy and insufferable about it?

No, gamers just randomly decided they hate Dragon Age for no reason. It must be it.

BG3 has average writing.

Its fine, nothing special.

Gamers didn’t decide to hate DA V randomly.

They did saw a ton of stuff on YouTube. That stuff wasn’t shown for BG3. It has that.

You are little caricatural; it's true that a specific part of the internet built a bad buzz around this game but it's not the sole reason for it being ridiculed. If you rank the steam reviews by the most helpful, there quite a few negative ones, mostly from long time franchise fans, that aren't just saying "woke=bad".

Cool.

Some parts of writing are not great.

Is that a big deal??

Plethora of games with much worse writing.

From what I have seen in streams, writing seems interesting enough. DA O is much higher watermark, even if its not up there, its better written than 99% games.

It's supposed to be an great RPG and those usually have good story and writing. Witcher 3, BG3 and many more games shits all over the DAV story and writing and treats it's players as grown people.

This is really disappointing. The game isnt woke at all. At least in the opening 8-10 hours. And yet 350k returns despite good reviews because of some woke clips from one quest that they knew would cause issues. they went as far as telling reviewers not to cover that questline. So they knew. they knew it was going too far. They knew it was terrible and instead of simply taking it out, they decided to censor reviewers instead.

I really dont understand it. movies and games cut content all the time. deleted scenes get their own dvds. so why double down on this particular questline when you know its going to kill your sales?

All this work. For nothing. 99% of the game is not woke. And yet, 1 questline likely mandated by the game's director is going to cause this game to flop and take Bioware with it. I dont know when devs will learn. Your audience isnt gay. it's definitely not female. it's a bunch of straight dudes who are sick of tired of this shit being shoved down their throats. i dont know any women who own consoles, let alone PCs. i have yet to find a person who identifies as non-binary. they are a fraction of a fraction of the population so why pander to them instead of pandering to 99% of your audience?

The game is fine. Its not great, but its not bad. it's definitely worth playing if you are a bioware fan. its better than 90% of the games released this year, and i hope guys get over some of this woke shit and give this game a try because there is a lot of like here despite its flaws.

You almost convinced me to grab it for the Pro. We'll see. Depends on how much i enjoy my AW2 replay and when the outlaws Pro patch and price drops

There isnt that big a difference.

BG3 I don’t think its writing is good enough to compare to other games.

Witcher 3 sure has decent writing, but difference isnt big enough, if at all.

If it peaks at the 84k concurrent users it hit on Saturday, which seems likely, that puts it in the same ballpark as games like Far Cry 5, Dark Souls II, and Need for Speed Heat. I tried to pick games that I thought would have a somewhat similar PC/console split. I've pulled the idea that these three games fit that criteria entirely out of my ass.

- Far Cry 5 sold 10m+ apparently (no idea if that accounts for discounts in any way)
- In 2015, Dark Souls II had sold about 3m units, with a little more than 1m on PC
- NFS Heat apparently sold slightly lower than what EA projected, which was 3-4m total.

Veilguard's 84k is also very close to pretty much every edition of Football Manager, which seems to sell in the 1-3m range. Again, I'm gleaning this from some quick googling so take it all with a massive grain of salt.

Overall it seems like Veilguard could be headed towards sales in the 3-5m range which is probably a disappointment compared to EA's hopes/expectations, but not a complete disaster. Unless it does a Far Cry 5, which I guess must have done gangbusters on consoles or something.

I think he's doing a character bit. Seems to be his thing. This GHG post nails it.
Lol. Felt like a troll.

It is disappointing that this game didn’t hit the mark. Hell, I’d have been happy with Inquisition style (though nothing matched Origins).

What I find funny is that there has always been LBGTQ representation in Dragon Age games. But they put it in a dark fantasy gritty game and it was totally fine. It was there if you wanted that route, wasn’t if you didn’t. (Not unlike bg3).

Why they had deviate from that, wrapping it all up in an after school special kind of game and character complexity speaks to how far Bioware has fallen. And this sucks.

Yep. Everyone wanted a good game. It’s a damn shame.

Just because of that, this game is being ridiculed.

I want you to post the absolute wokest scene in BG3, then we’ll do the same for Veilguard, and we’ll see how they compare.

Don’t be a fucking coward. You wanna come in here and make that statement, calling us pathetic, let’s see you stand by it.

Yeah but lots of us are hung over from the weekend festivities still. By the time people are in a condition to play a dark fantasy RPG it’ll be Monday already. Next Sunday should be 150K+ though

Bruh, some of your takes are even dumber than Veilguard's writing
I hate this shit. When morons have no other defense except to try and tear down other beloved games to make their game look not as bad.

Give me a fucking break. Like someone is going to read that and be like “oh yeah you’re right, now that you mention it, BG3’s writing wasn’t perfect either, perhaps Veilguard’s writing isn’t as bad as I’ve observed with my own eyes and ears! It’s hypocritical of me to like BG3 yet dislike Veilguard, the only honest move for me now is to start liking Veilguard too!”

I mean, I had a fair share of hot takes here too, but I always bother to explain my point of view and why I think that way. And I keep reading this "writing was worse or on a similar level as X, Y, Z" and never following on up with examples why this is apparently so bad. Bro, when you have a contrarian take on something, just have fucking balls and back it up. It's not that much

Dude. You have to be kidding making this argument. You are now trying to tear down BG3 to make dragon age better?

You sound like a moron

Dont be a sheep.

If you like it, say why?

If you want I can point out why its average.

I haven’t done so yet cause GAF isn’t ready for it. A whole buncha people get overly defensive.

Buttt buutt …. Have you seen how many ways you can tackle goblin camp? Have you seen that lady on twitter??

Total sheep behaviour.

If there is woke stuff in a game, thats should be enough. Less woke, more woke who is to decide.

Also imo,

Also consider overall quality of writing.

BG3 has weak to ok writing across the board. Its not ham fisted cause thats what writers managed. A couple of cringe / wince moments. Thats it.

DA Veilguard writers instead built a elaborate scenario. And drew inspiration from life experiences. That did more than a few cringe/wince moments.

But overall intention seems to be the same.
