Keep in mind there were 25 hours today, so we need to normalize the CCUs by the correction factor 25/24 which gives us 93,143 24hr-day CCU hours. So if we are being fair then it got well over 90K, and you can pretty much round that up to 100,000.

Hopefully we can petition SteamDB to update the all time peak or at least put an asterisk next to it.
EA Play Pro. They have taught EA gamers not to buy games.

The game they accused of being bigoted actually did better. 7 years ago when Steam had less users. Made by an indie developer. Also a single player action rpg. Would love to read the spin how this isn't a failure for Bioware.

Seems it reached its peak. If this game had a good reputation, next week could have seen it go higher due to word of mouth, but this isn't happening. I was confident it would have reached over 100K, but it won't.

I'm not sure what Bioware expected for this title, but Metaphor, which had a comparable peak, sold 1 million in 1 day. That's great for a AA game, but for a AAA game like this that is several times the budget? I think it underperformed, but we'll know soon enough. PlayStation has to be outselling PC 2 or even 3 to 1 for this to be successful.

The fact we don’t get to see Playstation sales figures will give EA and the games press all the excuses they need to claim the game was a success, whatever it does on Steam.

Sony should buy Bioware from EA (because EA sure as shit isn't keen on keeping these bozos around after yet another epic failure) and fucking fire everyone, blacklist every lead dev working there and close the studio.

Said it a few times before, it'll have at least 100k concurrent players and it's going to reach that. Big budget single player AAA fantasy games always sells a lot. Although with the work and budget they put into it, it'll need like 300k to 400k concurrent player for it to be a decent success on Steam. It won't need crazy high concurrent numbers like the 800k of BG3 or 2.4mil of Wukong but 200k to 300k at least or more.

This game needs to sell about 5 million units at full price to break even. I think they got to 2.5, maybe 3 if you’re feeling optimistic.

We don't know the budget of the game, so let's not guess based on information we don't have, there's no point in that. What we do know is that - "Dragon Age: Inquisition sold over 12 million copies. Its success surprised even the publisher, EA. The game set new standards for RPGs." And it was far from the most successful game, and what the bosses at EA definitely won't like is that the game won't reach the sales of DAI it looks bad in the documents when the previous part of the series outsells the new part, especially if the difference is big. That could negatively affect the overall situation in the studio, and investors definitely won't like it.

The breakout potential surprise hit would be them half expecting it to reach insane numbers closer to whatever BG3 got. Doubt they expect it to get BG3's peak CCP but probably close to it like 600 to 700k. The other half of them were probably thinking it'll hit above 300k peak ccp even if it doesn't have a big huge surprise moment. These kind of games don't just want to break even, they have much higher expectations than that. 200k ccp on steam wouldn't even be a good look. Consoles usually sells more than PC but they'll need to sell a lot more there since the PC numbers aren't even close to being good at all. They still got a chance but a small one with consoles.

You do have a dog in this fight if you play video games as a hobby.

Like Marvel/Disney is learning, you can’t just shovel down whatever message you want (at the expense of quality writing… this is key) and expect to have your traditional audience.

They don’t understand why a game like Baldur’s Gate hit it big. They look at Veilguard and think it’s close enough.
The CEO wants the sales of Baldur's Gate, but the people below him wanted to turn it into a young adult fiction God of War.

That's indeed interesting. The CCU peaks every time at 20h UTC, that's 8 PM/9 PM in Europe. So most buyers are from Europe, US gamers seem to have rejected the game. I wonder why that is. Are US gamers more aware of the controversies surrounding the game compared to Europeans?

Possible, wokeness is a much bigger issue in the US/Canada than Europe. In the US there is no real left, just radical cultural liberalism masquerading as a left, whereas Europe has a tradition of actual left-wing economic politics and much less space for this kind of stuff

I'm not sure I'd call Larian's writers talented lol. They only seem that way in relation to Bioware's
Personally I don't even like BG3 and never played it, prefer Rogue Trader a lol more for the CRPG department despise being a much lower budget game. But yeah when I watched videos from it. I could at least understand why people would like BG3 compared to Veilguard.

250k+ is good
Yeah, it really depends on the budget which is why DD2 and Space Marine 2 did great for their 220k or so CCUs.

A Western AAA Open World RPG from a known franchise not even hitting 100K on launch weekend is not good at all.

I'd say the standards have shifted a little.

250k bare minimum for a title with cash like this behind it.

500k for "breakout hits" like helldivers 2.

Nope, bioware simply alienated half of their potential customers so game is getting low numbers, both players and sales wise.

Logic would dictate game like new DA should be dark, gritty and all the woke stuff should be totally optional and not forced(just like in DA:I from 2014 which sold 12m copies), so series veterans get hyped to buy it, and yet, logic is not how those ppl like to operate on, instead they chose preaching to us like we are in HR office about to get the DEI training video.

Some players like it, some tolerated it and bend the knee(those that saying game is "ok", "fine", "avg" but still forking out 70usd/euro at launch ;) , huge chunk decided to not support such behaviour, hence the terrible results :)

veilguard is so far off from being the dragon age game i wanted or should have been. inquisition was utter trash, 2 i understand EA wanted to capitalize on the success of the first one and they rushed it but it still has some good stuff in it. Veilguard is not terrible, its ok at most, the terrible art style and monster design is so far off form dragon age as well and the writing is the worst its ever been for a bioware game.

Imho its not a problem of price, its 60$ on steam , in many countries even lower, some ppl posted screenie in this very thread with spreadsheet.

Can only say from my pov, back in 2014 i didnt need to wait for pricecut but was hyped for new western rpg(DA:I) and simply bought my ps4 copy right away, why would i wait and save 10-20 usd/euro after few months when i wanted to play the game right away- i saw trailers, knew its gonna be good, was a no brainer purchase.

This time tho... well, we all know how it looks this time, 0 hype, only annoyence :(
 
Game is doing atrociously on the console achievement tracking sites, for however much that's worth. A comparison with Dragon Age Inquisition from Trueachievements and TrueTrophies

Xbox:
Inquisition: 288K (360 & One)
Veilguard: 8K

Playstation:
Inqusition 111K (PS3 & PS4)
Veilguard: 2K

I see a lot of people claiming that this heavily skews towards consoles.

Moving forward, tbh I'm going to do what I do with movies/TV shows:
1. Play/Watch things pre 2017
2. Only buy games/movies/boxsets post 2017 if I'm 100% sure there is no woke crap in the product.
3. Dont pre-order anything, because a products woke influence won't be visible until consumers react(not crappy access media)

That's what I'm doing moving forward, and I already have a huge steam backlog to attack, these woke companies won't get a cent from me
