Dragon Age: Veilguard releases with over 70k concurrent players on Steam and 'Mixed Reviews'

Just watched a livestream of it for a few mins. Why do so many characters have American accents? Isn't this supposed to be a fantasy setting. It immediately broke any sense of immersion. No offence to Americans in general but it's not the kind of thing I'd expect to hear in a fantasy/medieval world.

It all seems very Marvel-ish.

That seems high?
Definitely not but at the rate it's going as it's growing more powerful by the second. It should hit over 146k tonight at least. It'll need like around 400k concurrent on Steam to be view as a decent success due to a big budget AAA western fantasy game from a well known franchise and big budget fantasy games especially one with lots of work done like this one needs a very high expectation. There's still a chance it'll reach that mark.

When I get back from trick or treating with my kids, this better have 100k players or I’m going ham in this thread.
100k will be reached not too long after this post so by the time you get back I'll say 142k or 149k depending on how late it is.

Since nobody knows what are EA expectative ($$$) with this Game. Any number is useless.
What is good for one could be Bad for other.

People expecting this would be Concord were on a bubble, this is a well known IP with fanbase.

The only metric Will be if there is a new DE Game in the future.

This is such a DonkeyPunchJr DonkeyPunchJr game btw

You can make some absolutely retarded looking avatars
Yeah my favorite thing is making some butt ugly freak of nature to play as, it really suits me.

I wish they’d released the character creator as a demo like they’ve done with previous games because I sure as hell am not buying it.

has it reached today's peak?

I'm actually surprised this is selling so well. Putting the woke stuff aside, the game just looks like crap. Weird cartoony style, poor facial expressions, story and writing seems terrible and too lighthearted, combat seems pretty tame. If people are enjoying it, so be it. I'm hoping though that Bioware takes feedback from this (good and bad) and makes a good Mass Effect game.

I guess some folks were just expecting Concord.
Concord was a once in a generation flop

But this game will come down to how much it actually cost to make. If it cost $200 million to make, selling 3-4 million copies is a failure for it and Dragon Age will die as a franchise. If it cost $60 million to make, selling 3-4 million copies is a successful run and the franchise will continue and we'll all become trans and the human species will no longer reproduce and become extinct

Not convinced it’s selling well just yet. The BioWare audience showed up, but it’s not pulling many people outside of that.

People have been looking forward to DA4 long before any of the 'drama' came to light. I'm not surprised it's doing well, but I'll admit it's doing better than I expected.

  1. "this is going to review terribly" (gets excellent reviews)
  2. "the graphics suck" (is one of the best looking games of the year)
  3. "no one is going to play this" (has the best launch of any single player EA game of all-time on PC)
  4. "these numbers are not great when compared to the best selling Steam titles of all time" <- YOU ARE HERE

ehhhh

it's not an Ubi Flop but EA's execs are not gonna be wooed by the numbers either, I can guarantee you that.

Unless it gets REALLY bad word of mouth, it’s going to hit its all time peak on Sunday and will probably be around 100K.

And no i don’t think that’s very good for a big name AAA RPG

Needs to sell a few million to be considered a success. Dragon Age Inquisition sold over 12 million.

1. Gets ok reviews (82) from limited access journalism, with the most critical reviews being unscored
2. Graphics is good when it comes to environments, characters are mixed bag except hair which is great
3. "Best launch of any singleplayer EA game of all time" says almost nothing when almost no EA games launched on steam day 1
4. These numbers are indeed not great if EA is interested in making profit, unless consoles do much bigger numbers or the game grows significantly over the weekend

Have you read this thread? I'm quoting literally 2/3rds of the people here.

You are? Why not quote the posts directly then?

Also....

"but really, this is GAF. Are you surprised? I've never seen such a childish hateboner for a videogame since... Oh wait, last year on Resetera."

Yeah....that's bullshit. A game hated by ResetEra is banned on ResetEra.

Go woke go broke it makes me sad but I think this is the end of the line for bioware
A studio is dead once all the original people are long gone and it's just a random studio name on a bunch of random people

Bioware's founders retired more than a decade ago, that studio made quality games like Anthem afterwards

The current Bungie is the same way

Oh I'll totally give GAF credit for not trying to cowardly eliminate any discussion around it like Era did. I'm just saying that the blind hatred is comparable.

How many of those are playing just for the hair? I heard it was amazing. Truly groundbreaking.

It will do well enough. Never enough to please EA, but sadly well enough to keep Bioware around for more transitions.
