Oh I'll totally give GAF credit for not trying to cowardly eliminate any discussion around it like Era did. I'm just saying that the blind hatred is comparable.

If we are talking about Hogwarts then no, it really isn't comparable. The "hatred" there had nothing to do with what was in the game. The issues folks have with Veilguard has everything to do with what is in the game.

lol mate I know you're on some kind of crusade to defend this game to the death, but come on, at least try to stay somewhat in reality.

There's as much people on here liking the game as are disliking it. Seriously, calm down.

lol what other BioWare games launched on Steam? I think the Mass Effect remaster was the only other one that came to Steam on day 1. What a dumb comparison.

This game is probably going to peak at less than half what Dragons Dogma 2 did earlier this year. Does that sound like a smash hit to you?
What? Old mass effect games, dead space 1,2 and 3. Dragon age 1 and 2 all day one on Steam. Jedi Survivor.

There was a long stretch where EA games did not launch on Steam. They started putting games back on Steam in 2020.

How many of those are playing just for the hair? I heard it was amazing. Truly groundbreaking.

It will do well enough. Never enough to please EA, but sadly well enough to keep Bioware around for more transitions.
I made it through like 30 hours of The Witcher 3 just to look at Geralt's hair so it's more common than you think

A good comparable game to this is Dragon's Dogma 2, same type of game, AAA RPG. same genre, same fanbase. Same steam population, both games released this year. Same size, similar budget, though I think Veilguard still has higher budget than DD2

And Capcom said DD2 is meeting their expectations, meaning it's not great and it's not underperformed, so they're still making money out of it

Did they? I know at least ME1 came out on 360 before PC. A bunch of BioWare games came out on Origin and only came to Steam later.

And of course you’re talking about games from like 10-15 years ago where a substantial amount of PC game sales were still physical discs.

Yup. My guess is Veilguard will do around half this or a little less. Not a complete bomb but still pretty lousy.

Is that number good?
Starfield did 330k.
Starfield made money didn't it?

Much like Starfield, the more interesting discussion is the long term interest in future games. I don't know anyone who is excited for Elder Scrolls 6. Likewise I'm sure plenty of people are going to feel had who bought this game based off the selective seal-clapping reviews.

Ah, I see we're back to the old "if a game gets reviews I don't agree with (even though I've never played the game), that must mean they're being paid" defense.
No, EA were selectively giving keys to those they expected to give good reviews.
The proper reviews will appear in the next week.

You only have to look at Inquisition with the same shit, GOTY, 9/10.
Inquisition was one of the worst RPGs I ever played, complete trash.

Go ahead, keep trying to defend the indefensible.

Steam reviews are such a chore to read.

So far it seems like a 7/10 game. Leaning more towards 8/10 if you like the friendlier Marvel direction the series has taken. Sure as shit doesn't seem to be this masterpiece the journalists are peddling.

It reached 70k? I didn't expect this, but hopefully it succeeds enough. I want a new Mass Effect
Not trying to piss on your cheerios, what do you expect from a new Mass Effect game considering almost everyone that made the original trilogy has left and the last game was a disaster?

1. Gets ok reviews (82) from limited access journalism, with the most critical reviews being unscored
2. Graphics is good when it comes to environments, characters are mixed bag except hair which is great
3. "Best launch of any singleplayer EA game of all time" says almost nothing when almost no EA games launched on steam day 1
4. These numbers are indeed not great if EA is interested in making profit, unless consoles do much bigger numbers or the game grows significantly over the weekend

The game is free to GeForce Now Ultimate subscribers.

Writes a lot, says very little
People actually thinking 70k is reason to celebrate for one of the biggest RPG and game release this year.

I mean, why is it a reason to worry or hate? What history of this IP has ever suggested it should have more though? Right now, its the highest in the franchise history regarding this data.

I don't know what EA really expects, but if they really expected something between Starfield or Baldur's Gate 3 then they are dumb.
doubt, I think they are expecting something based on how the past titles performed, I have no clue why they'd be using Starfield as a measurement, its a completely different IP

I agree, but I'd say its a mixture of both, its based on something within the game, but also based on ideas outside of the game people feel are influencing the title unjustly.

So I feel that generally what is driving a lot of this, I agree that is why one might feel that way, I don't know if I agree that the ideas themselves are out of place with this IP. This IP has had this type of sexual type thing within it, this isn't really that new and I'd expect this sorta of thing in a Dragon Age thing, you know......after the whole gay bull sex stuff lol I still don't get how folks didn't see any of that yet are shocked at this, those that really liked the IP, I can see why they bought this game, to them, its not really some brand new change, its what they are already used too aka round 2 bull sex lol

^ they not going to like this lol

Suddenly it was suppose to outsell Call Of Duty and move 40 million units, if it doesn't do this, its da flopz lol

  1. "this is going to review terribly" (gets excellent reviews)
  2. "the graphics suck" (is one of the best looking games of the year)
  3. "no one is going to play this" (has the best launch of any single player EA game of all-time on PC)
  4. "these numbers are not great when compared to the best selling Steam titles of all time" <- YOU ARE HERE

It is indeed funny how predictable a lot of this is. Next up, how much did EA EXPECT for it to sell, didn't move GTAV numbers, thus flop, then "it only sold based on Dragon Age name alone, the people didn't know what they were buying, they just blindly spent money not knowing what they were doing with their own money"

Be like "the freedom effect", smh out here having free will and buying what they want will ruin the industry i tell you!

For fuck's sake. That's a piss take in my opinion. But hey, everyone is allowed to their opinion.

"Sadly is sells well"?
It's a huge single player game, no extra shitty launcher needed etc.. I think it's great that this game sells well!
So it has that goofy artstyle and some trans folks was part of the dev team.. so what?

There's plenty of other games if this is not your cup of tea, but wanting it to fail because of the "wokeness" seems quite silly.

I couldn't give two fucks about lots of games, but it's PLENTY of games for everyone. And i'm very happy everytime a single player game does well.
And that fuckin word "woke", man..
Most useless word and stupid word. Makes it feel like the world evolves around that silly, hollow shit.
Yeah I don't get that mentality either.... Just don't buy it... And then all the 'old' DA Fans ranting it's not "their" game anymore. Funny thing is, they constantly keep complaing since DA2

Several hundred thousand concurrent players aka 400k at least by tomorrow according to this person. Looks like everyone really is out for Halloween with the ever growing rate of the CCP and it's going to start increasing in count massively later on.

Better than rotting in the EA Franchise dungeon forever. I'm happy whenever EA Releases a single player game wich isn't a technical mess on PC... Sadly I can't remember if there was any... and pray it won't be ea app exclusive

They are comparable indeed but Dragon age is a beloved established franchise plus it is a Western RPG which resonates with PC gamers more.

I would argue Baldur's Gate 3 is the closest comparison.
