Fable: Pre-Alpha Gameplay

I'm a Souls stan to the bone, but not every game needs to have that kind of grounded combat. Hope they mix it up. Otherwise, I like where this is going. Make or break will be the writing. Wait and see for now.

I tried the sequel but i stopped when i realized that it was impossible to die, way to much of a cakewalk.

Never tried 3, i heard it's kinda terrible.

I played and it was absolute crap. Even the fucking map doesn't match the actual game map, that was the first time I saw someone making a map that does not align with the game.
Choices are as about dumb as you can imagine. You do evil because youre good and you do good because youre evil. In the end everyone hates you.

Looks great, it better have a character creater because that protag is fugly and there isn't enough charm to save that mug.

If people find slow walking, basic looking combat and kicking chickens "good looking" that says alot for our standards in 2025.

Go back and look at Fable 2. There were systems upon systems and actual fun looking controls. All they had to do was rip the bones from Fable 2, upgrade and evolve those systems/gameplay elements and give it a Modern graphical overhaul. This looks disappointing, yes even as Pre-Alpha.

This was a bizarre way to drop a gameplay trailer. Yes the game looks great visually but they dropped this trailer with no sound effects, bad animations, and didn't even show any dialogue. Just an absolutely bizarre way to show off a game and i'm also baffled that it's still pre-alpha. I'm interested in this game but i need to see alot more of the story, quests, dialogue, etc before i'm fully on board.

These games had character creators. They also have a system where your character changes in appearance based on the actions you do in the world. Like if you're evil, your character starts to look more evil.

Edit: as mentioned above, these games are ultimately a parody of the genre. They're fucking hilarious too
There's never been a character creator in any Fable game I've played.

You can choose genders in Fable 2 and 3.
Change hairstyles and get tattoos, as well as appearance changing based on actions as you mentioned, but there's no changing the actual preset that you start with.

Yup I have zero issues with the character design

Dunno why certain people are obsessed with playing as super models

Same BS about Aloy that I also don't get

Thing is that for me Fable has always been tongue in cheek, humorous satire fantasy

If there's a character creator I actually want to make this

She would be still skinny, ugly was just a remark of how ugly is her in game model. I'm honestly not surprised people could take at least take 2 seconds to raciocinate before typing, tiktok does that with people.

This would make sense if I wasn't older than you with a family. We'll just have to disagree the tiniest bit. We have to suspend disbelief a bit with games as we do with any fantasy fiction.

You're basing all that off the previous games, and there's no clear indication any of that will be carried over to the new games.

Probably too presumptuous to assume any of that for now.

Not like there haven't been games that have done a complete 180 (ala God of War 2018).

You can't really see if those systems exist or not in such a short video but yeah i bet they're gone.

Again the thing is they have 2 priorities in this kind of production. First being the graphics, second is how to find a way to easily produce a lot of content during full production. To reach these 2 goals you have to cut corners in every aspect of design. Plus it needs to be accessible and safe for the largest audience possible.

It's going to be generic and streamlined like every action/adventure of this scope.

Awe man this looks so graphically amazing.
Are we sure this is ForzaTech?
Cuz I still dont believe it.

Shame about the delay though.

Why she gotta kick that chicken?

To get the achievement.

Literally no other reason other than to make your little cousins laugh. (Read as make yourself laugh)

I hope Fight Cluck is also in.

I think in the trailer before the last one she looks pretty honestly. There's a shot where she smiles and it's up close. Fable is supposed to be kind of a backwater, rural, farting in the pub origin story kicking chickens. She's not really supposed to look like a supermodel. Just looks normal without makeup or something. But tons of people will disagree and probably flip out, so that's their call.

Everybody forgetting the magic of makeup. Guess TikTok, Instagram, etc. have succeeded in unnecessarily inflating everybody's expectations.

Mate she's comically disfigured. Nobody batted an eye over the Returnal chick.

And inb4 her design is going for laughs. Anyone who'd actually believe that is delusional.
You're too late. I already said Fable's humor and setting probably justifies the character design. I say probably because we really don't know alot about the story yet.

This game looks like they are focusing too much on presentation and graphics than actual gameplay systems and controls. Again, this looks more like strung together animations (think Hellblade 2) than an actual fun and fluid feeling controls/gameplay.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm just not impressed by great graphics and nice animations. They need to show deep/fun/interesting gameplay mechanics.

Keep in mind, this was released over 15 years ago and had a sense of tons of gameplay potential.

I don't even have little cousins. Maybe I could play it for the dementia people in the nursing home.

Sure thing, if a random internet fella like you said it must be truth. Now let me go back to the alpha of the game while you can go back whatever you were doing.

There isn't much to speculate about the story though other than it could follow the same rule of older Fables (hero material should arise, etc).
Now about Fable humor, not sure I quite get since I don't remember Fable humor being focused on the main character design. They could simply be doing different interations of MC to show you that this was just a placeholder and the game talks about a hero in specific(your cyc), but since we're talking about an actual model this game probably won't have one.

You'd do that for them.
You sir are a good person.

<--- Accidentally unlocked the achievement cuz whenever I was travelling between destinations if one of those fuckers was in my way it was flying.

It looks fun but it also looks kinda ridiculous having this realistic 130lb lady in a dress whipping a sledgehammer around and partying blows from some giant wolf monster

The design of the protagonist is a parody of today's gaming landscape intentionally. Fable is a Comedy. and also has comedians tied to it. Also, don't your actions make the character what they look like?

This game looks amazing.
If there is a game where i can forgive ugly characters, it's fable.

Don't think there will be a character creator and the game is better off if it doesn't.
All the other ones do let you choose between a man and a woman though. I don't think there was ever a character creator. You can just change their clothing. And in the original, your actions changed the characters appearance.

This game looks really good. The combat needs a lot more work though.

It's one of the very, very few XGS games that I'm quite excited for. I hope they deliver.

Looking forward to it and don't mind the delay.
Edit: I didn't even know it was supposed to come out in 2025, actually thought it was unannounced release date

Hmmm true, I would say the fact that they have an actual actress portraying this character would all but confirm this who you'll be playing as. It would be strange if there was a male character or other iterations of a female character, but there's no mention of a character creator. Although I have to say...there's still alot we don't know about Fable. So there's room for your suggestion too.

The female character doesn't look evil. Just unattractive.

None of the past mainline Fable games had character creators. You could only pick a gender in Fable II and III and that was it, the design of protagonists was always fixed

this isn't true? I've played Fable 3 most recently, and I'm pretty sure you can customize how the face looks, hair, skin tone, gender, etc. you can then further customize your character based on your actions in the world.

I get that it isn't as detailed as some character creators in other games, but you can still definitely create a custom character

Not a face though. My point is that there is no character creator where you can create them from scratch. You can only customize a base model

I'd at least rather they have an option to play as either a man or woman, you know like Mass Effect did.

But of course they are going to force us to play as a woman in a Medieval Fantasy RPG because reasons. Then again maybe they just aren't skilled enough to create that kind of game that Bioware created a decade ago and so it was just a "Creative Choice" in this case.

You brough a good point. They could pretty much be pushing this "character" but it doesn't mean the game couldn't have a male version of it, similar to what AssCreed do nowadays with brother and sister. It could just means as a matter of lore, that one is more canon them the other. But again it's just specualtion though, theres nothing that actually points to having both. But if this ugly thing is the best thing they could do for a female I honestly would worry to think how the male version would look.

Sad about the delay but it does look like something is coming together. Get some good combat devs in here and make this one special.

Plus, women with swords are under represented in video games this generation so I hope they make something special.

Man why do these companies insist in making female characters so ugly? Her design is an abomination, there is no way around it

It's fucking ridiculous, I hope we can choose another character or something or that they make a character creator, I am having Mary Jane flashbacks from Spiderman 2 here

At the very least there should be an option to play as either boy or girl, like previous games.

Either way, it's looking good. I might even get excited for Xbox again…

I remember choosing the character's sex, but nothing more. Really don't think there was a custom creator at all.
