Fable Delayed to 2026

If there is a Horizon 3, then its saving grace will be that its on gamepass and will prob drop on ps5 sometime the year after.

What an utter shit show from Playground Games and MS. Five to six years working on this and still no gameplay to show for except a delay to 2026 now…….no wonder Xbox finds themselves in the position they are in.

Exactly. OG Fable had a stylized art style, humor, setting, etc.

I only played the first 2 games, but if they had shown the new game trailers without slapping the Fable name on it, I would have never guessed it was Fable.

Microsoft probably figured they may as well use the dormant Fable IP, to get some sales.

I was responding to a claim that based on what we’ve seen, so the above, as little as it can be, spelled trouble for the game. I don’t know how anyone can make that speculation with the footage we have. Just like we can’t determine how it ends up just based on footage available, it certainly doesn’t spell trouble. IMO

I’ve been pounding this drum for like a decade now but you can really trace the fall of Xbox 1st Party to when Phil became the head of it in ~2008, there were a few good years after that with the games that likely started development under previous leadership but it all started to fall apart under his watch and then under Matt Booty after Phil got promoted to replace Mattrick

I will never understand why people absolutely refuse to give him any blame for the mess they’re in due directly to his leadership, instead it’s always “just wait until next year”

edit: also the state they found themselves in before the acquisition spree (only ~5 first party studios) happened under Phil as well, it’s not like he took over a mess that Mattrick made alone and has been struggling to turn things around, he was directly involved in creating that mess & made it actively worse the more power he was given

Fair enough. The only indication I've read that the game was in trouble was a couple of years ago when there were rumors that PG was having trouble adapting ForzaTech. So it is all rumors and guesses at this point. I can't say I'm amazed b what I've seen so far, but there is a lot we just haven't seen at all. There was a lot going on in Fable 2 so if this new Fable is going to be faithful to the series then what has been shown won't even scratch the surface. That's my hope anyway.

I get why the industry moves so slow now, I understand, and I know it's not feasible to go back to the pace at which games used to be made with the scope of the current big budget title, I get that.

....but I can be a little bummed still. I wish we didn't have to wait like five plus years at a time for games after announcement. Like I said, I get it, but it's still kinda lame.

Another point, where's that Venom game dooders? I was pumped for that despite having real issues with much of 2, is it canceled now or is it still happening?

All we know of Venom is the leaked calendar, and it could very well have been canceled at this point. Who knows.

Zero issue with this.

I'm not super interested yet, until I see more of the gameplay.....but 2025 is already stacked, I have almost too much that I want to play at this point.

We don't even know if those aren't bullshots like the Watch Dogs, Anthem, Rainbow Six Siege, Cyberpunk reveals there were nowhere near close to what the game looked like. From all we know, Fable could be smoke and mirrors at this point as they scrap the concept many times mid development.

Game probably has elements that recent events/releases have highlighted as no longer welcome or accepted by their target audience and they are reworking said elements.

I don't disagree that games will be delayed due to GTA 6, but Fable isn't getting delayed for that reason, imo. Studios are going to wait to delay until Spring, when they know GTA is releasing in the Fall or not

That would be cool, but personally I wouldn't expect that at all. Everything makes it look like it's going for more of a high end production values / cinematic vibe than that like Tomb Raider reboot, or Witcher 3 or something. Guess we'll see. I really still have no clue what this game is going to truly be like, but hopefully it has a lot more interesting elements hidden away or it's going to live and die on the writing, humor and art style.

Yeah it’s looking that way, still hope I’m wrong. A huge part of the appeal of the older Fable games was making my own character and seeing her + the NPCs react to my actions. Which mainly involved eating until I got super fat + burping/farting everywhere.

I get it, me too. The older games were much more systems driven. I still remember the magazine articles promising trees growing in real time. I just assume this will be it's own thing, and totally different.

Imagine thinking Fable will ever be released

It's the Duke Nukem Forever of Microsoft Game Studios, it will only ever be released after it's abandoned and then rescued and hastily thrown together for a quick and dirty release by Randy Pitchford and Gearbox Software
