Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has Sold Around 2 Million Copies, PS5 Player Data Suggests

So your position is that Final Fantasy ports don't sell because they're shitty and release at the wrong time? Seems we're in agreement on the second part, but if the games are shitty why are you here championing exclusivity for bad games?

Who says the ff ports games don't sell?
Pixel remastered were exclusive to PC for years and they still sell on consoles. Some pc fans are just insane about exclusive games.

Except Insomniac got hacked and we saw that all their games didn't make much profit at all (or lost money, in the case of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart).

As for me, my copy got bought last night by my wife for my birthday, but I probably won't start it until June or July when my backlog allows it.

People couldn't read the charts in the right way. It didn't lose any money. Why do people still spread fake news.

Ppl liked 16 way more, FF7 rides on nostalgia and thats It, If u played the OG FF7 Remake is a good game, If not its just too cringe.
Yah gotta be trolling. FF16 is wretched, beyond the graphics and music. I hadn’t played Remake until just this month, and it’s incredible. Far better than 16. And I had never played the original Ff7 until last month, and loved that too.

These are the daily active users as stated in the article.
It sold more than that, based on the charts it's doing in line with FFXVI, so it should be around the 3-3.5m mark.
Still it's clearly lower than the original FF7 Remake hence why they didn't issue any PR.
But there are multiple reasons for that.
Bigger installed base, stay at home vs non covid release period, the negative impact of being a sequel targeting the same fans that actually played and liked the 2020 game has been definetly understimated as a factor and this will get worse for part 3.

Still the game is absolutely fantastic, best RPG of the generation among with BG3 and given also the critical reception it's clear they have found the right template of gameplay and open world exploration for future games.
They have an issue in reaching new audiences beyond their core fans that were introduced to the series during the PS1 age, but this is unfortunately for them an aging demographic.

I think those sales are actually good. The point is that FF doesn't have the same impact as before, for a variety of reasons, one of them having more competition in the genre, other not owning an own identity.

Hey guys if you were thinking about buying the game pls buy it for me ok, I really love the game and want it to do well

It's true they kind of messed up the main dramatic narrative with dumb modern square meta mumbo jumbo

but the the non-serious story and character moments are really fun and well executed, the combat is really satisfying on hard mode and in VR mode challenges and it has amazingly detailed side content like an extremely well made piano minigame and a card game way better than triple triad ever was

SE needs to do a FF7 Classic Remake, just 1 game not the 3 parts bullshit, turn based and with updated graphics and not exclusive… That’s all what fan wants..They have gold in their hands but they want to reinvent the wheel… 🤦

It’s really not.. the best ff since X hasn’t been made yet because since X they’ve all been shit, And therein lies the issue and why this game is an uninspired bloat fest.
Nah. I say this as a big FF7 fan who wasn’t huge on Remake, Rebirth is the best FF in at least a decade or more. If it’s not selling well that’s a damn shame, it deserves to.

I was all in on XVI based off the demo and fell of hard in the middle of it. I still haven’t finished it. Remake felt padded and a slog to get through. Rebirth has some of those same issues but when the open world stuff got to be too much, I just mainlined to the end and I thought where they were going with the plot was pretty cool/interesting. I’m fully onboard with the final entry now

Bloat aside fantastic game, ate it all up and enjoyed almost every minutes. The mini games can be killer though and ruin the mood. Unlike FF16, I really enjoyed the combat, summons, semi open world and vehicles it did take me back. The music, is incredible. I hope it doesn't take 4-5 years for the conclision and I pray they finish it. The game deserves good sales.

It's highly likely that it's at least at 3m by now. But we can't know either way. But to think that 2m figure is the current state of the sales is definitely stupid.

Not exactly convincing logic to go “FF7 Rebirth seems to have sold just above DD2 in Europe, and outsold if in Japan, so therefore it outsold it worldwide”

‘At least 3m’ would means it selling nearly as fast as FFVII Remake.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
starting to see why Sony or Square Enix still doesn’t want to divulge the sales figure

Never heard of Ampere Analytics. Its a bit weird to compare the demo numbers of a new ip to the demo of a sequel of a different game.
I'd be curious what the numbers of Remake were and how the numbers of Remake compare to both Rebirth and Stellar Blade.

Another thing I dont understand is how they got to the number +251%. Maybe someone may enlighten me. It doesnt really matter that much since they did use the same factor for Stellar Blade, I am just confused by the number.

Next time dont make 100 hour games with 30 mini games, and focus on a tighter more cohesive experience.

They inflated the length of the first game and then said they will take another 2 games to tell the full story. nonsense. strip out all the nonsense and you couldve told this story in one 50 hour long game.
They could atleast tell this story in two games.

They should put it on gamepass too since that increases sales.

You have be delusional or an average green rat to actually think that anybody who owns Xbox buys JRPG's, even above not buying games in general. Because they don't.

Note that Unicorn Overlord is NOT on Gamepass LOL

I played XVI at launch last year and currently replaying VIII.

Haven’t touched Rebirth. The tone & stortytelling of Remake was a step down from the original FFVII in my opinion. After VIII I will probably just replay VII and IX instead of buying Rebirth lol. Late 90s era for jrpgs was cracked!

I couldn't finish the first FF7 and the demo of Rebirth didn't do it for me. Gameplay wise and overall it's so archaic compared to even a game like Stellar Blade who felt so much more modern the way it plays.

I'll be buying the game this fall or winter probably at a significant discount. I'll play it on PS5 Pro. If it isn't discounted for the holidays, I'll just wait for it to hit PS+ which it eventually will.

We have a real problem with the quantity of games being released, their price points, and how PS+ works.

period. no spinning

Edit:
Let's be clear on something: this is not an issue of the quality of the game necessarily, but an issue with the state of the brand. (But the state of the brand is what it is because of the quality of previous entries)
FF XIV is doing amazingly well though.

Ironically, it's an MMO.

Psychopath. Blitzball is probably the most useless mini-game in the franchise history.

That would be Tetra Master, which yields no rewards whatsoever.

I mean yeah Blitzball is broken and simplistic, but it leads to a fully upgraded World Champion, the best weapon for one of the best characters in the game. And I kind of like the whole aspect of finding/signing good players, organising strats, and demolishing tough teams. I'll certainly take it over Catcher Chocobo or dodging 200 consecutive lightning bolts.

Half of VII-R's sales in the same timeframe and will have a weaker tail.

This is a hard pill to swallow. FFVII: Remake sold 3.5 million in it's first 3 days, and took 4 months to reach 5 million when Square released sales data in August. It's been around 6 weeks since Rebirth released, so if we are to assume Remake reached at least 4 - 4.5 million sold in it's first 6 weeks, that would put Rebirth at around 2 - 2.25 million sold right now if we are to compare timeframes. I have a very hard time believing that in the span of 6 weeks, Rebirth only sold around 2 million. Even by that most pessimistic estimations, that is insanely fucking low.

They used the same engine as the first game and it took “only” 3 years to make. Maybe it didn’t hit the high end of sales estimate but people are nuts if they think it bombed financially given how smooth the development process was. Remember that Sony likely threw in significant money too and all Deluxe/Collectors editions were sold out for a while. 2.5M at around $80 a copy plus the Sony money hat is a solid take with another run at PC next year.

Btw, they’ve already confirmed part 3 and are starting on the voice acting and expect a 3 year or less turnaround. Sorry haters. Suck my chocolate salty balls. Rebirth rules.

It most definitely cost less to make due to so many assets already been built, and the minimum $10 price hike between PS4 to PS5 certainly helped.

Exactly. And part 3 will cost even less to make but still gross $200M+ on day 1 plus whatever Sony is paying.

I've always wondered what Sony pay's for a big 3rd party exclusive. Maybe something like 10-25% of dev costs. :pie_thinking:

I wouldn't think it's less or more than that.

That sucks. I’ll never be able to grab a second hand copy if it goes on like this.

Really wish I knew how much is general franchise erosion, how much is console market changes and how much is people going nooope after XVI and 7R. But there’s no way to tell.

The people that bought Remake realized they didn't like it. No need to buy the sequels.

I think it's more of people waiting for a deep sale before buying it.

I've come to learn most people don't have good enough of a W-2 job to afford a $70 game day 1. And no one can save money for something they want either.
