I really like that there doesn't appear to be any level scaling going on this game, going back to earlier areas for different reasons I can now whoop ass much quicker and it feels good.

Well dunno what the other guy you quoted is referring to exactly, but the most damaging basic combos use charged attacks. Using control type B:

R1, R2(charge), R1, R1, R1, (release R2)
R1, R2(charge), R1, R1, R1(charge), (release R2), (release R1)

I found the best control type for these charge attacks is Type C.
Type C is what I have been using and yeah it's perfect for getting in those charged magic bursts. Takes some getting used to changing Eikons with Triangle but worth learning imo.

Oh and just finished
bahamut
fight...
Its literally the most insane thing in gaming. My jaw was open for the whole thing.

I dont know how they could keep escalating the scale since garuda to this.
Yeah I felt the same way. Just when you thought it was getting crazy. It gets crazier.

I was intrigued to see that they turned
the classic spell Ultima into an evil Eikon, I wonder it that also means Holy will get the same treatment as an opposite to Ultima, classic light vs dark.

And seeing the
time jump of 5 years after the Typhon battle was wild
, in love with this world and narrative.

Just finished 1st playthrough. Finishing up the easier trophies left before moving on to the new game+ new difficulty. Some of the time challenge stones are making me twitch a bit.
So many of the battles are epic as fuck. It's been a long time since I've experienced this level of excitement over a game.

Played with the English dub, but will prob do Japanese audio for NG+ mode just to see the diff.

This is exactly what I will do too. I am going to start NG+ later on today after picking up all the easy trophies.

Got my PS5 at launch and have never cleaned it. Play it a lot. Zero overheating.

The only thing overheating is your soul during the boss battles cuz they’re the best bosses since Metal Gear Rising.
Awesome!!!

Im hype for this game!!! 🙂

Few questions

Which early to mid game Eikon abilities are best to unlock?

Does limit break engaged increase attack power of Eikon abilities?

Does mastering an Eikon ability increase its power or reduce cooldown?

Is there any way to know which Eikon abilities deflect projectiles or counter enemy and boss attacks?

Press triangle I think on the ability screen to view what exactly "upgrading" does in any given case.

Anyone else agree this game has some of the best uses of Haptics yet?

I don’t know why certain games are far more subtle about it. This is awesome. Best use since Returnal
I mentioned it in my first post about the game and haven't seen it mentioned since. Good haptics can increase the immersion and overall enjoyment of a game immeasurably, we need to stop taking this stuff for granted and celebrate it when it's done right. FFXVI has some of the best haptics I've experienced in a while, stark contrast coming off both Diablo 4 and Street Fighter 6 where it was almost non-existent. Good to hear you appreciate it too 👍

Yeah it adds so much polish to a game that I really appreciate it

Kojima does a good job with these little details as well so I’m hopeful it’ll be put to good use in Death Stranding 2

I have three eikons and the combat is really starting to pick up for me.

Swapping around as needed setting up for big stagger depletion by dropping something like garuda's tornado right before they hit the 50% then using the grapple to pull them down once they hit that 50% Mark and following up with the gouge usually getting them almost staggered completely from there and then the tornado continuing to hit while they are staggered and then moving on to my other moves to deplete their HP strongly while staggered etc.. enjoying it a lot more as it goes on.

You probably already know this but Mastering an ability allows you to bind it to a different Eikon opening up even more combat possibilities 👌

And people say the combat is “shallow”.
It's definitely not shallow. Is it what I want out of Final Fintasy? Not necessarily but it's only a shallow or as deep as you want it to be.

Compared to the entirety of XIII and XV, I'm in comparative love. I just hope it keeps up and by the end of it I still feel the same way.

Anyone who says that is outright lying and their opinions on the game are automatically dismissed. It's fine to say they don't *like* the combat system - that's highly subjective - but shallow?

Thats true in most games you can choose not engage with any of its system and play it as boring as possible even with games like Sekiro and Bayonetta.

Question for those that finished the game, how far along am I?

Bahamut just went insane on the capitol and got shot down by the crystal. Now Clive is going to try and destroy it

rofif rofif you were so right, that battle was incredible magnitudes of insane, just when you thought it was over BAM another even more epic phase. I ran out of potions and died a couple times because I thought I was near done only for it to have another phase haha.

Whoever says the Eikon fights are just QTEs is about to eat crow when they get to the
Titan
fight, you can do insane combos with Ifrit and apparently get to unlock even more moves.

Really enjoying the game even though the combat for me is meh but man does it lag for me. Just panning the camera so much stutter and tried both performance and quality. Also I've noticed crackling in the voices xD. I was doing a eikon battle and my ps5 started beeping as well lol

I mean, it’s there, but it’s used just as rumble. Nowhere near as awesome as it is with the built in Astro game. The trigger effect is there too, but only when opening “tough” doors.

It’s not as strong as Astro but it’s not subtle either

It’s not just rumble either, it’s matched to the aural sounds in the game and resonates at similar frequencies

Rank A hunts have been challenging but doable at 1st try. Now unlocked a Rank S hunt that just destroys me. Its a freaking dark souls boss fight. Boss is 10 levels higher than me, so guess ill save it for later. Its doable cuz i took half his HP, but some of his powerfull attacks are almost 1 hit kills.

6 hours into the game and it crashed my ps5 3 times within the last 15 min. It completely shuts down the console to a point where I have to manually unplug it. What the fuck is this shit? Last time something like this happened was with the launch version of Cyberpunk.

Playing this right after TOTK is rather sobering to be honest…
Maybe your database needs to be rebuilt. Haven’t had a single issue with multiple 5 hour sessions. Game runs great.

Going mild spoiler mode here...

Finally reached the second time-jump, with Clive and Jill (I'm shipping them) 5 years older and fighting mobs in the desert... And Clive is giving me some Prince of Persia: Warrior Within vibes here!

16hrs in and I haven't had any problems. Maybe it's your console? Does it have enough space to breath? The manual says it needs at least 10 centimeters free from obstacles in the back.

Well
Ultima has been used as a villain in a number of games already. She was a major antagonist, if not the driving force of evil in Ivalice in FF Tactics

Thanks can’t believe I didn’t notice this sooner
Also make sure to read those as well. Almsot every ability has context senstiive actions during combat. Like using the Rising Flames move right when an enemy attacks to get a larger window of parry, using Heatwave when a projectile is about to hit you for more hits, and using the Rook's Gambit right before a hit to do a quick dodge and large stagger damage.

I know, that's one of my favourite games of all time but the implementation and possible implication is different here.

Oh man, I was fighting a S rank Hunt and apparently I got it too close to the boundry, so it disengaged me, its health bar went grey, it walked back to its starting location and regained full health. Annoying. Cool fight though, I'll come back to it later.
