FINALLY finished after 75 hours….what a game, what a boss fight, what an ending…..

I LOVED THIS GAME! People gonna complain about how this not “their Final Fantasy” but this DEFINITELY my Final Fantasy.

We still have Armored Core VI coming out but as of right now, FFXVI my GOTY without a doubt.

Definitely my GOTY too, Fantastic game I can overlook some of the negatives, I've really enjoyed FF16 enormously.

Ok now i understand the people saying that the plot kinda take a nosedive in the second part, still enjoyable but yeah.

Also, for me the game peaked with titan style, the next 2 i got are pretty meh.

I think i'm close to the end.

Did my first A hunt, and damn that was fun.

Similar to FFVII Remake, the combat shines even more when you tackle hard content.

Still, the game could use some build/gear variety, feels like you just upgrade into the next big gear piece without taking any consideration at all.

At least, that's what's happening to me so far.

Also is it just me or do some enemies stun gauge drain faster if you use a specific eikon element? The game doesn't tell you anything about it, but I'm almost sure that this happens.

Yes you can see it on the screen 'Eikonic vulnerability' once you use a certain Ekion element on an enemy.

It’s not going to be remembered with the same fondness as VI - X because most of us were children when we played them. There’s never been a game, no matter how great, that felt as magical to play now as an adult than it did as a kid.
FF7R did that for people who aren't attached to the OG. For me at least. Great feeling.

Xenoblade Chronicles X too.

I just got to the first point of no return, really hoping its going to pick up now...feel like after an awesome opening I've had like 5 hours of trudging around doing nothing but mmo side quests and far too easy combat.

What is going on with this game's story? It felt so promising up to Titan and than just took a massive nosedive. Even the dialog has become so boring I find myself internet surfing on my phone during cutscenes. Then if I find out I missed something important I rewatch the scene on YouTube.
Sadly it really just does drop off somewhere around there.

I honestly don't know. It's like the writing team rewrote either the first half to make it better or the second half to make it worse at some point. Or they started writing this deep, sophisticated medieval fantasy story and then couldn't figure out how to stick the landing so they just switched to a dial by numbers shonen anime plot because that's all they know how to write

After Titan, I’m beginning to think this is a mixed bag.

It had a great start, it has amazing boss battles, but damn it accomplishes to be boring at the same time.

I don’t want to buy garlic after that amazing boss fight. I don’t care about Mid. I don’t want to get another pass to cross a blockade.

Did they really have to put worthless stuff in the main quest? Jeez

It feels like the game doesn’t respect your time.

You'd have thought the main benefit of going linear would be blockbuster pacing.

Every game deals with pacing, especially the AAA games. It’s a hard thing to work around. I don’t generally mind it here and there, because I believe it’s ok for games to have highs and lows. It’s when games add unnecessary padding is when I get annoyed. I haven’t experienced “padding” with FF16, but I’m also super early still.

But you didn't play it as a kid. My argument is your imagination is captured much easier as a kid than an adult. If FFVII:R gave you a magical feeling now, that feeling probably would've been more potent as a child.

That's why you have a character named Mid in the middest narrative portion of the game.

Wait a minute. You're all saying it gets worse? I'm already bored after the awesome opening...I thought it would pick up.

Some missions in the main story feel like bad side quests and the aide quests
.....oh boy.

I keep finding myself just looking at the Internet on my phone whenever a cutscene comes on...there is absolutely nothing gripping about this story.

The awesome opening made you think it was going to be some game of thrones type shit but then it's just turned into a Clive story really...

It's a mixed bag....I fire it up and I enjoy it a lot for like an hour then I just slowly get bored until I turn it off...turn it on and rinse and repeat.

I find it to be the best and most gripping story the franchise has had in two decades. But it's not going to be everyone's bag. I beat it last Friday and the story is still living rent free in my head. FFX was the last entry to do that.

Decided I'm going to go back through the final fantasy games in chronological order so up next is XV then the 13 trilogy :messenger_tears_of_joy:. Will skip FF7R until I get to finish the original as everyone recommended I play the og first.

Not trying to make another negative comment, but I fought Atomos in FFV yesterday and realized that was harder than most bosses in XVI. Granted, there are two spells that can immediately kill the boss. That alone was more complex. A lot of stuff in FFV can wipe your party.

Pretty soon inviting the player who hasn’t played a particular genre isn’t going to mean much. It bugs me that that’s the go-to with any change in a game, based off some assumption that their fans haven’t played the genre before. I’ve been a fan of action and RPG games for over 20 years. What world do we live in where a person who buys this particular $70 AAA game hasn’t played another game of a different genre?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
As compelling as the main narrative is, all the side content in the game is utter trash. This is one part where the negative MMO aspect shines through.

It has huge ups and huge downs.

Half of the main quest is mmo shit, half have setpieces, huge boss fights etc.

If you don’t like the story so far then the rest of the game is not going to change your mind. Its a very laid back pace as you go through towns, talk to the Hideaway NPCs, and help townsfolk. The big moments are saved for the climaxes of particular arcs. Its a lot like Mass Effect 1 pacing with 4 or 5 major arcs, but spread over 40 hours instead of 20 hours.

In my opinion the side quests were boring only in the beginning of the game but later on the side quests became much better. I liked how each town have their own issue which Clive help them solve, theses side quests really added nice world building.

The ones with the + symbol are good but 90% of them are filler trash tier.

I’ve come around on the side quests a bit. Some of them are actually really good. And even some of the silly ones like “go collect soil samples” end up being relevant later on. And I got the beserker ring for completing enough side quests, which was a decent reward.

Where did Mid even come from??? Did we meet her before the second time skip and I'm just forgetting or did they really just introduce her out of nowhere?
She's Cid's daughter, theres a sidequest before the time skip where you learn he has a daughter thats studying engineering [/spoiler]

I disagree, I agree that in early games the side quests weren't really good but later it becomes much better and I did ALL of them.

If you want talk about actual MMO like side quests then see original Xenoblade.

That is why I generally hate huge time skips in games, and this game has TWO of them lol. You end up needing characters like Vivian who is introduced out of nowhere and only exists because the game needs to dump a ton of info on you so you have any idea whatsoever at what is going on, instead of it naturally becoming known through the game. I mean really the game has two whole characters that exist solely because there is so much random story and background info, which is cool for world building and all, but it loses some of the impact when you need to be told it via extremely forced Powerpoint presentations.

Sidequest where you deliver a letter to Cid essentially introduces her existence. Also her name kind of gives it away if you played FFV heh

Kinda on the same boat right now, i did all the sidequest i had available but now i'm severely burned off so i'm only doing the + sidequest that at least have better rewards.

Someone should make a list of missable and unmissable sidequest.

some late "normal" side quest does give good rewards and have really good plot, but like i said, until u get there u already burned out.
