Sorry, I don't follow. GT? Gran Turismo? I've not played that one since the PS1 days.

What I was trying to say is can FH be played as follows, start game, straight to the grid, race, finish, repeat. Or is there unskippable silliness between each race, travelling to and fro and speaking to other drivers?

its more of a grand theft auto style where you travel between races/missions. its a different type of game to a sim like Forza or Gran truism

It doesn't look much better than FH4 on PC. Just better more colorful setting. Physics still awful btw, like in all Forza games, with its ridiculous oversteering.
TBH I dont expect a big difference in the physics, because the same physics and map needs to be able to run on a base Xbox too.
The next Forza Motorsport (if it is next gen + PC only) should be the one to watch, if physics are your main concern.
Additionaly this is the Forza entry, where everyone kind of gamer is welcome (except the crash kids, they can go to Wreckfest 😅), so the level/physics needs to be easier to control IMO.

Otherwise FH5 will be in theory "just" an update FH4 im terms of grahics and physics and probably better optimized for next gen, too.

But compared to its competition, FH physics are more focused on sim than arcade (look at The Crew 2). I dont think that the new Test Drive will be able to keep up with the physics either.. unfortunately.


About the trailer: It really looks awesome, the transition between the standing "image" and gameplay looks so unreal good.
Hopefully the showed features are just the tip of the iceberg.
Already seen: Convertible opening, different mode for the car, more visual upgrades (that widebody Evo X), and the Subaru 22B car model looked fixed too (in the older ones the propositions looked off).


Soo hyped for the game.

I'm not down with reporting especially if he/she actually believes in what they are saying but I'm more inclined to think it's a troll post, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

FH5 is next gen game with car shading/materials/paint is worse than in pastgen game
its just the paint job probably, look how different the paint can look if you select glossy vs metal vs ...

The cars have realistic layered paint materials — base metal or carbon layer, primer coat, base color coat, two metallic paint coats, clear top coat, etc.
Screen space reflections (SSR) are being used together with real time dynamic light probes to render vehicle lighting and reflections more accurately, as opposed to using outdated pre-baked cubes.

Thats funny how billiboy can't hear some critique of Forza visuals. I love Forza, I played these games since Forza 2 and Forza horizon 1. And I clearly understand, that even FH4 in overall visual quality(4k hdr, seasons, view distance and environment) is better than DC. The only one bad thing I noticed in forza games -is primitive car shading and lack of complex materials. Fh5 doesn't fix this and I'm sort of dissapointed.
 

Ive always said this xbox has no blockbuster games but with some exceptions turn 10 has always been cutting edge its the only studio that makes quality production rracing games to rival playstation studios, the detail with raytracing in this game is phenomenal it reminds me of the sun in colin mcrae dirt 2 morroco stage after all its codemasters developers that were bought by playground games and the reason why forza horizon games keep looking fantastic.

The bounce lighting and shadows in this game are what stand out for me its looks very detailed I hope the game is fun I just wished thry had a rally mode with a rally gane engine like in colin mcrae games as I feel forza and grand turismo games have cars that move like hover boards and too realistic that kills the fun for meme but all in all this game has the best lighting than drive club. And looks better than anything shown today.

Perhaps not that surprising in the end, due to how underwhelming the upgrade of FH4 for XSX was imo. On the other hand that in itself was surprising because of how well it runs on PC. Either way a stunning title, so no big loss. FH4 was the push I needed to get 3 years of GP, so I'm happy for more of the same but in a different setting. The only thing that could be a big bummer is the music selection - it was great in FH4 and really made that game special.

Looks terrific. Before playing FH3 and 4, I hadn't been interested in a racing game since the Project Gotham series, but these Horizon games do it for me.

I get what you say, but its only for the glossy paint jobs the other ones look really good i always change them to metalic or hybrid with flakes. those look much much better than the regular glossy wich is weird because you can replicate the real thing pretty easy with the in game color menu.

Between this and Halo Infinite, I am leaning towards buying an Xbox Series X instead of a PlayStation 5. FH5 looks damn impressive. I like the Mexico locale, but I still would have preferred Japan with a focus on modding. Maybe we’ll get that for an eventual FH6? A man can dream, right?
 
bruh this was literally the best looking thing ever, like the scenery and the lighting gaddamn. The crazy part is its cross gen and it looks soo much better than any other racing game. Playground games are the best studio right now at MS, they are leagues above the others. WTf where the other studios thinking, like look a this and look at all the other trash.
Its what ive said for years I had a x360 and the detail in forza games was above any racing games and it was the only studio that made proper top production games on xbox all the others where meeee... its one of the reasons I shifted to playstation cause xbox studios couldnt keep up with the quality forza had.
 
Watching the 4k versions on my oled and WOW it looks absolutely awesome! It's bizarre they can make open world driving games look this good!

I'd be asking them to make track or single route game too as these developers are so much better than turn 10
Ive always asked myself how are driving games like this... so detailed and without much popin when driving at 200 miles per hour while halo infinite a fps game has popin when walking.

Is this cross-gen? I'm not really sure why people are saying this looks impressive; I guess it's a looker somewhat, but most games aiming for photorealism don't impress me after UE5.

It sounds like 60fps mode on both though to me -

I think we can put to bed this being a cross gen game, or game built on XB1 and then up-ported to Series consoles.
Christ if XSS is 1080p/30, or what? 720p/60?. What the hell is the XB1 version going to run at?, 540p/20fps?. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Horizon is more about the wilderness, and off road racing. City racing can get a little stale.
There’s more to Japan than just urban city environments. PG can still milk the car list with useless off-roaders.

If it hits 1440p60fps with those graphics I’ll be more than fine with it. FH at 30fps is playable but I’m not a fan of the weird blur effect it uses.

Once I saw the gameplay I thought there was no way this is running on last gen consoles, which seems to be the case as that port will likely be separate. The visuals were too crisp, it's obviously built for next gen.

I have no luck with different paint materials in forza. It looks like grainy texture instead of complex mulilayer shader for me.
Also Forza cars really need self reflections and properly self shadowing(especially rear lights self-shadowing) like this

It is disappointing to see how very similar this game looks to FH3...

And not to blow things out of proportion, but despite looking great it still shows the same problems with their engine: aliasing (no good TAA), shimmering and shadow pop-in, fake low res reflections...

Really hope next one is Japan at last and much bigger jump in quality and tech.

This game is going to rake in the players this holiday. They are completely unopposed with no new shiny Need For Speed this year.
They are still releasing NFS games? Last one i was aware of was Most Wanted from 2012 (I know there was also Hot Pursuit remaster)

It still look very nice, despite the aggressive pop in/out and no raytracing. It's better to wait for both games to release then compare before spouting outrageous claims, although both are kinda different with one being arcadey open-world and the other circuit sim racing. Also GT is much bigger and one of the largest, most pristine eSports in gaming.

In any case, this the the best game shown so far on their conference.
