I don't care about racing games and I don't care about reviews, usually, but having played the demo, even I know the Polygon review is wildly off. A graphical step back? The game looks astonishing.

I think the landscapes look great. I said so in the review. But pop in Forza 3 or 4 for comparison. I guarantee you, it's not as good, especially when the bad character models get thrown into the mix.

This is great news for Turn 10 and most importantly, Playground Games. I can't get enough of racing games so this certainly bodes well for the future.

Definitely... But whatever we do... Let the guys at Turn 10 do their thing.
I go into each and every Forza game with low expectations and I am consistently blown away. And this time... It's not even a Turn 10 game!

Contrary to this year's Christmas lineup of grumpy shooters and bloody adventure games, Forza Horizon an unadulterated, unpresuming work of fun. From its spectacular opening, to its breathtaking conclusion, Playground's newest racer is a complete sensory overload, its pristine mix of good looks, great sounds and high speeds plugging directly into your brain's pleasure centre. Racing sims don't come cooler than Forza Horizon; computer games, nowadays are rarely this much fun.

The Forza Motorsport franchise has up until now been at the top of its class with every release (if you were to ask the opinion of this reviewer), but sadly Forza Horizon doesn't quite live up to the same high standards. Mainly due to some idiotic flaws, and seemingly simple elements that could have done with a bit more time and care. One of the strengths of the franchise is that you've always been able to shape your own experience with the cars you want to drive. Forza Motorsport 4 perfected this, but here you're not getting the same experience.

All the same, Forza Horizon is a fresh take on the genre that offers high quality in almost every regard, a tremendous amount of content, and a sense of the joy the open road provides you with that most games fail to replicate. I'm convinced Colorado is a beautiful place, but as the sun slowly sets behind the mountains, and I cruise in my Ford Mustang Boss 429, I can't see myself leaving this virtual Colorado anytime soon.

As a PC gamer, this game looks great IQ wise judging from the demo. Good AA and great lighting (minus the orange filter, if you don't like that).

I've got to say: when I heard it was 30fps I was immediately put off. I said as much in the other thead.

Then... I actually played the demo. And came away very surprised. Yes, it's 30fps, but the image quality and detail in the environments is simply phenomenal. I don't think I've seen such good IQ in any other game this generation. It also feels incredibly slick and smooth despite being 30fps.

Pleasant surprise.

EDIT: Also got to say, it's one of those few demos that I didn't play for 1 minute and switch off. It got me hooked and I couldn't help but get excited about driving around exploring the environments. Really can't wait for the final game.

I don't think the environments are as good as previous games, but specifically I think the inclusion of really bad character models on the sidelines as you race pulls you out of how great those vistas can look on their own.

For what it's worth, I'll back up what others are saying about the 30FPS element here -- that never detracted from the game for me at all.

I cant give enough Kudos to PlayGround for this.....looks like backing down from 60fps has helped them create a truly marvelous game.
