omg that head

Looking at the Compton writer's credits, King Mez, not Kendrick, was probably Dre's main "co-writer" on this project.

He's on every track Dre rapped on except for the Intro and Outro (Talking to My Diary), whereas Kendrick is only credited on the songs he rapped on.

Also surprise credits:

Sly Jordan (AKA the knock Nate Dogg on Fast Lane) on Genocide
Stat Quo on Just Another Day
DJ Khalil on All in A Day's Work

That hook/intro/outro is the absolute worst thing in this entire OT. Beat and verses are straight though.

But that intro/outro is so bad it doesn't matter. Shit sounds like iLoveMacaroni having a stroke.

Yeah the rapping and the beat is good but i'm not really feeling the ODBish hook tbh.

Finally listened to Compton. Weird, weird album. Some of the production is super interesting, but on the whole is just feels off. Dre's verses feel pretty unnatural and some of the random guest spots are pretty wack. Even Kendrick, while good in spots, gets his annoying shout on and other big names like Cube and Eminem are just sort of meh.

I'm surprising myself here since I haven't been a big fan of him, but I think The Game's track was one of my favourites. Great feature from him.

5) Cube's "today was a good day" line kind of makes you really aware how weird this project is. Rhymes inspired by a movie about themselves.
This was a really good point. Came on here to read more impressions after I listened and this totally applies for me. An interesting project, but an awkward one as well.

so I watched those Detox studio session videos that Net_Wrecker posted about a week ago (week ago) again and this sure does sound like the bassline in Satisfiction

it's almost as if Compton is just Detox under a different name

Eminem's verse is far from horrible

I could sense flashes of The Eminem Show in his verse, easily his best musical contribution in a while

Not even gonne lie, it's been so long since I've heard Dre rap and he's so clearly biting people's styles on this record, I don't even recognize him sometimes

Same, I had to do a double take sometimes like, wait that's Dre? He's completely out of his element.

It's a super odd project in general. Even the good songs have something off about them, IDK.

It definitely is. That's the first thing I thought of when I heard it.

Dre not sounding like Dre is really weird. You'd think they try to keep it like Chronic or 2001. There are so many parts on here where I was like "yo, that was Dre?

As for Game, he's been doing the copycat thing for as long as I can remember but I don't usually mind it because he can still spit most of the time.

Still too early for a definitive opinion but three listens all the way through and this album sounds fucking spectacular to me. Production is just on another level, everyone from snoop to the "who?" rappers come correct, just a fantastic album all around.

The album is alright. It's very over produced, you can tell more cooks are in the kitchen than usual. Sometimes it works, such as the beat switches. Other times it just feels like a mess. Rap wise Dre continues to rap like whoever is writing for him, and sometimes it works and sometimes it's just ugly. He's a lot more up temp and fast throughout the album.

Not a fan of King Mez and Ice Cube's verse was weak. Kendrick does his thing, especially on Deep Water. Jon Conner is amazing, even The Game comes through with a dope performance. Singing wise I fux with Anderson Paak.

This doesn't sound like a "Dre" album. More often than not it doesn't have that typical west coast sound either, so I'd imagine many older fans will be turned off. There's trap shit mixed with all types of stuff. Animals, Talking To My Diary, For The Love Of Money, and Deep Water are standout tracks imo.

btw the skits are really bad. Especially Loose Cannon. Sounds like a some corny Eminem shit.

I do want to listen to more of what Jon Connor has to offer.

Yeah he's dope. His output hasn't been that great since he's signed with Aftermath but now we see that he's been in the lab working on this. It's been pretty much all hands on deck when it comes to working on the Doc's shit.

Hopefully now JC can concentrate on his solo stuff. Surprised to see him and Em have never collabed considering they're on the same label and from the same city.
