I've been relistening T&Y and I gotta say, while it can be sonically appealing, it completely fails at what it sets out to do, or at least what I think Lupe tried to do with it. The way he just pumps his lines full with (extended) metaphors and puns in an attempt to make the listener think just leads me to RapGenius to check out what he tried to say. His stuff sounds smart but it isn't as poignant as it needs to be and at worst even downright corny. For example:

I disagree with some of what Meaghan Garvey is saying, but there's one thing I feel similarly about. That Drake using Nicki's success as a diss to Meek and that that makes her the "man" in the relationship is a little off. When you're listening to Back to Back those lines are dope in the moment and sound catchy, but the more I think about it the more I feel like that's the weak link of an otherwise pretty good diss. Same goes for the meme picture where Meek is the bride and Nicki is the groom. I mean I guess all memes are dumb on some level, but I can see why that one might stand out for some.

I just made a statement about people underestimating his skill as a rapper and then I responded that he put out a dope album (imo) this year when enzo stated he hasn't done nothing in a year and a half. Then I got attacked as a poster and thats how this shit started. I was speaking generally about the instagram and twitter thing not specifically at you.

Speaking of T&Y, I gave TPAB a full listen-through the other day. It's digesting a bit better now away from the unavoidable overhype and stuff and I'm definitely enjoying it slightly more than before RE: his actual critiques on civil rights. Most of my problems with it musically still persist, though. Gonna give it another run or so soon.

The Dr. Dre Sampler Platter did its job. It had dope verses from Snoop, Em, Kendrick, Game and even XtotheZ came back and stamped his style on it. Cube was sort of half assing his way through it, which is a goddamn shame - this shit should have been like at least 50 percent his album, but some beef is everlasting I guess.
Still, cruising into the city with this shit blasting when those clean drums crashed....that's what the fuck I want from a Dre album. It's a bit weird - and super ironic - that Dre jacked Game's schtick for the record, but FFS, the man is rusty and threw this shit together in like a month. The skits, as usual, can go die in a fire. Other than that, I'm loving it.
