Love this song by Lupe. Dude receives shit for weird and odd reasons...but he's still one of the best on the mic. Folks need to look past the fuckery in hip hop and appreciate the music.

i think his appeal peaked at the "Kids" branding, he was the high school party weed rapper like wiz.

The gist of the picture purpose is that Mac Miller is a comfortable rap entry pitched perfect for xbox playing college age white dudes. He takes elements from stoner rap and pop shit and just enough boombap to satisfy having a vaguely east coast feel but is minimal on the dust.

hip hop is like nintendo. you got your core fans and they have their own views and what they want but the reason it doesnt match up with the charts is because we don't make up the majority of the numbers. pop masses decide everything when youre on that level. to say its white people...idk i think its really more girls than anything for mac specifically. just like most things pop.

I used to be into Timbaland heavy and used to research the samples he used.
He sampled some really great stuff like Fela Kuti, Serge Gainsbourg, Bjork, etc.
Listening to this stuff is how I branched into other genres.
Now hip-hop is in the minority of what I listen to, before it was like 90% Hip-Hop / 10% R&B.

I personally like the Stones, Dylan and The Velvet Underground a little more, but Beatles are probably still top 5 for me.
