I know duck down as a label has to be hurt real bad right now. Not only was he a founding act on the label through Heltah Skeltah and a close friend to all of them, Price was their version of Ghostface and carried the label a few times over the years.

never thought of that, but yeah...damn.

Thought about checking out that new Young Dro, but meh. I still think his best work was his first album. I loved those similarities...

Pretty much after his first album he just decided to jump on whatever was trendy and keep riding that until something new became trendy. Except for that one time he tried to be different:

It a shame because dude could have been one of the best out of the A. It's like Dro fumbled his style and Juicy J took it and ran for the goal.

This is what happens when you never tell a child no, while giving him immediate and unlimited access to anything he wants (except an education, of course). Give it ten years, I guarantee he'll have multiple arrests for DUI or other dumb shit.

Do you want black men to succeed or not fam? Why are you being wild negative on the young lord? Check your spirit.

Cathedral is pretty damn solid. great beats and Spitta did his thing like usual.

listened to Compton a few more times and still love it. it's obviously not revolutionary like Chronic or 2001, but it is an excellent piece of work on its own. very modern and eclectic while still sounding like a Dre album. especially those crisp drums. and Dre still has one of my favorite voices in all of hip-hop.

actually (and I can't really place why quite yet), the sound and vibe of the album reminds me a bit of TPAB.

While I agree with the bolded (I actually agree with the entire post), I don't think Dre actually used that super distinctive voice of his enough. His ghostwriters (Justus and King Mez) did a terrible job making flows and cadences that match Dre's normal rapping. The end product was often times a guy that was almost unrecognizable. I have the same problem with Snoop (especially on One Shot One Kill). Snoop complained on GGN once about labels//producers wanting him to rap like the Migos. I don't the machine gun flow works that well for him either.

Yeah, I thought Dre sounded unnatural at times on Compton. Some of his verses just didn't feel right.

I agree overall, though. Like on 2001 and obviously older stuff, always liked Dre's voice and delivery.

I can't consciously call Compton good or great because of Dre's cadences and delivery. Shit sucks the life out of those tracks because it sounds like a Dre impersonator or something that wasn't supposed to come out.

That and half of the songs are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How do you feel about Kanye's cadences when he tries to do trap tho

It works because Kanye is arrogant and talks like that when he's hyped up. Plus Ye has less of a single, defined style than Dre does. More versatile rappers can get away with that. Others are best when they stay in their lane.

Like, what the fuck @ Dre on Medicine Man. Surprised he's not getting ripped to shreds for that.

Fuck. RIP Sean Price.

I was listening to Mic Tyson a few days ago and now he's just gone. The game's definitely going to miss him.
