GAF's Nintendo Discussion, News, and Speculation |OT|

Is Double Dragon Neon any good ? Im thinking about picking it up tomorrow: I enjoyed the originals, and the trailer had me hyped with the music.

Be sure to give our episode about Switch Pro tech and Nintendo's bullshit policy on limited releases (like 3D All-Stars/FE 30th) a listen. We have a lot of Nintendo stuff planned for 2021.
Was a great episode as usual. I was firmly on the "they're going to sell these old games separately" train but the argument you made against that made a lot of sense.

I'm still expecting a big expansion of their online retro content in the new fiscal year.

2021 will surely be a huge, huge year for Nintendo.

Looking forward to it.
It does seem like stars seem to be aligned for one of their best years in history. Taken everything announced or rumored into account we might get:
-An actually significant hardware revision making the Nintendo ecosystem foolproof for at least the next 5 years
-BotW sequel
-Bayonetta 3
-Metroid 5
-Monolith Soft's medieval fantasy game
-SMT5
-MonHun Rise
-NMH3
-Silksong
Looks really solid even if a couple of these rumored games don't exist.

Interview with Miyamoto in The New Yorker. Really great read; especially for anyone in this thread!

I anticipate some sort of expansion to the NSO game offerings to happen in 2021. The hub was an otherwise meaningless addition.

MVG's thoughts on the emulators were insightful.

I'm anticipating the NES/SNES apps being complemented with other systems. Games as in app purchases across all of them. NSO app to communicate the value of your sub-see included games and launch them while individual system apps contain your full library of sub + purchased.

I guess that would circumvent the need to increase subscription costs. It's an interesting theory. Whatever happens though I hope it's soon. We could use some new systems on there.

Yeah I don't think Nintendo sees NSO as a major revenue driver for their company the same way MSFT is looking at Game Pass or SNE at PSN. Hoping we get some more apps in 2021. I think there is a lot of potential revenue in this strategy for Nintendo. Hopefully the folks in Kyoto are thinking the same thing.

That's why I love having MVG as a co-host. He is well versed and experienced in the emulator side of things & can bring technical knowledge to the discussion that the majority of conversations would lack. He is able to offer a developer/programmer take on what is happening.

I'm taking forever to finish Astral Chain thanks to the huge amount of work I have but god daaaaaaaamn its so sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

When Akira appears as a black legion, GOD DAMMMMMMMMMMMMN, so fucking cool. I wish my character could be one as well.

And that moment when I created my character named Carlos and suddenly his sister has a Japanese name... i went like, wtf?

It's okay, they're half American/Japanese.

Ubisoft is hosting an eShop sale and Immortals: Fenyx Rising is apart of it:

Immortals Fenyx Rising – $39.99 (was $59.99)
Immortals Fenyx Rising Gold Edition – $66.99 (was $99.99)

It's been what, two weeks since the game launched? Feel bad for those that bought it early.

Nah, that thread turned into garbage. Maybe we should discuss the interview here.

EDIT:
Anyone know if maybe Taito/Square Enix might release an English version? I know that Densha De Go! is the king of niche-mountain but hey... I don't even demand a physical release. I would be fine with a digital-only release in English...

Been playing the Japanese version on PS4. Pretty straight forward, you don't need to understand much Japanese to play it

How is it? The last Densha De Go! I played was Densha De Go! Professional for PS1. I don't know why but Densha De Go! kinda has a zen-like nature to it (even though it should be stressful as fuck to get all the stops, signals and speeds right)

Which previous zeldas did you play and dislike? I haven't picked up BotW for similar reasons.
The ones that I did not play are:
Oracle of Ages (but played Oracle of Seasons)
Four Swords Adventures
A Link Between Worlds
Tri Force Heroes

The first 4 Zelda are absolute classics and still great games.

Majora's Mask is so bad that I pretend that this game never existed.
The Wind Waker I liked when I first played in 2004, but I couldn't stand 2 hours in the Wii U version.
Twilight Princess have so much long parts. It would be better if they cut the game in half. About the HD remake, the same above.
Skyward Sword is only barely better than Majora's Mask. This one is awful. Even the combat is a puzzle. -_- Didn't finish and sold my special edition (with the golden controller and the soundtrack CD). And thus Zelda died for me.

The portable versions aren't necessairly bad (except Spirit Tracks, that would be the 3rd worst Zelda for me), but they are not remarkable either and as I still have Link's Awakening DX, there is no need to buy the remake.

But Breath of the Wild is like playing the first ones again. The game is so good. Even those stupid shrines can't hinder the experience because they are short.

I just finished the Ruta Beast/Temple and that was so stupid. We had only those dumbass easy puzzles that I remembered this video about everything that I dislike in Aonuma Zeldas.

I defeated the first guardian (well, those decayed, with only 500 HP) parrying the laser with the shield. I'll rush my work this morning to play some more this afternoon.

Surely, you do know where Aonuma drew his inspiration for Zelda puzzles, right? :)

It is not about the puzzles, but Aonuma thinking that Zelda is about puzzles. Heck, he even said that the fact that you don't know where to go in Breath of the Wild were the "puzzles" in this Zelda. I'm liking Breath of the Wild so much, I hope that he don't ruin the sequel.

Okay, but I was alluding to the fact that he got the idea that Zelda is about solving puzzles from A Link to the Past, which had, arguably, some of the best puzzles in the series.

You and I are definitely of the same mind that OoT and beyond were waaaaaaay overboard on the puzzles to the point that most meaningful battles are, themselves, puzzles to solve in order to beat the bad guy. And it's just lame. I much prefer the difficulty-based fights the older games.

One thing in BotW I'm very grateful for are the lionels. However, it's too bad that a lionel is basically the most bad ass baddie in the entire game. lol
