Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Pro it's a game for a handheld cut then some slack. Anyway fair play to Nintendo for even doing a next gen exclusive. Balsy move losing short term profit to try make long term gain.
im not in the business of cutting $100 billion companies slack.

this 'handheld' is almost 2x more powerful than the ps4 in docked mode and so far we've only seen wii u quality visuals from nintendo.

Just watched Switch 2 game trailers and it felt like someone was throwing bleach in my eyes. Was expecting PS4 tier graphics at worst and beyond that from Nintendo first party, instead was met with Switch 1.5 abomination. Switch 2 this isn't, more like Switch Pro or Switch+.

You people really thought that nintendo, the smartest of all 3 bigs, that make games with 5000 yen budget that sell 20 mil copies was about to change strategy and make high production\budget games out of the blue just because switch 2 is more powerful??

PS4? These PS2 tier graphics at $90.

PS3 tier KZ2, Motorstorm, Uncharted 2-3, and Halo 4.

Mario Kart 10 and Donkey Kong looked like God of War on PS2.

Sony studios:

Careful or you'll rouse the "baked lighting is good enough" crowd and they'll flood this thread with a billion gifs and videos of last of us part 2.
The Office Thank You GIF

All the people who whine about why the industry is moving toward the widespread use of RT should see this post and understand the absolute resource pit baking lighting for a video game is

There was a DF interview with the Massive devs where they shared a similar sentiment:

"Nikolay Stefanov: Exactly. Probes in this way are more of a radiance cache, so to speak, rather than something baked in. And speaking of "baked in", that's one of the things that is also really great about this system - it allows us to skip all the expensive baking, since the world of Pandora is so much more detailed, and it has so many more regions than what we used to have on both The Division games for a very different environment. We started the game originally using the PRT system, which was taking days to bake over the entire level; just doing iterations on the world took ages. So it's really good to have a system that allows us to move stuff around and see the changes in real-time, especially when it comes to interiors."

It will actually retail for $90. Digital is $80.

$90 for a PS2 looking title. They have gone mad. Sony, Ubisoft and MS increased the pricetag of their games to $70 because they actually put in the effort to make next gen looking games. Sony actually has the decency to charge $60 for games like astrobot that clearly dont cost as much. Nintendo is such a scammer that they are charging $90 for a ps2 looking game.

How this company isnt mocked and berated on gaming boards is beyond me. Nostalgia and fanboyism is a helluva drug.

Be happy that you can mock them here without getting the ban for trolling.

Small victories.

No idea, all their first party titles looked like shit and charging $80 usd for a base game is a joke.

People actually play video games for gameplay and not for graphics.

Here are some AC Shadows gifs to wash the taste off from the nintendo direct.

w2xASeI.gif

Reminds me of the Witcher 3 graphics pre-downgrade.

b4TnCh2.gif

I was just thinking the other day that Shadows is the closest thing I’ve seen to the egregious Witcher 3 bullshit trailers

Check out the shot at 1:13. Different setting obviously, but Shadows is the closest thing I’ve seen to matching that. CDPR was absolutely full of shit btw my god

That trailer is bizarre indeed: some of it still looks incredible (mainly the shots that show a lot of the scenery with great density and detail in the distance), the rest not so much (and it looks comparable to the final game).

It's almost like they're showing two different games.

Their renderer didn't even run well on pc, makes you wonder what gpu they were using.

I like their games but they’re just bullshit artists. It’s one thing to touch up a vertical slice but they try to pitch you on stuff that straight up doesn’t exist, hence the Cyberpunk shitshow in 2020.

To me some of those Switch 2 games looked even worse than Xbox One visuals. Maybe I’m wrong but Elden Ring on Switch 2 might look worse than the Xbone version. I was expecting better.

But then it is running Metroid Prime 4 at 4K which is around 6x the resolution of the Switch 1 version and that S2 version of Cyberpunk probably looks better than the Xbone version. And it is running Star Wars Outlaws. So this tells me it probably is better than an Xbox One. It’s hard to gauge how powerful it is atm.

Just saw earlier the 4k trailer of Zelda and it doesn't have any AA at all, there are jaggies everywhere

How can Nintendo be this backwards in 2025?

Nintendo and FromSoft are exempt from the grifters and outrage merchants. It’s why everyone is circle jerking in that other thread about the FromSoft asset flip game that looks like a PS3 game and is MP only.

i LOVE this time of day and season. great use of volumetric lighting. Beautifully shaded trees. It's almost up there with Black Myth and Avatar's trees.
Yeah, I think Spring/Summer are the most impressive, due to these more contrasty scenes, also when it rains and it's the reflections and more grey-ish tones.

I was bemoaning the lack of volumetric fog in the opening region, but its used plenty in other regions during all times of day. And it doesn't feel like its used to hide draw distance, but to enhance the mood and atmosphere.
Yeah, totally, I have seen a lot of scenes from a vantage point where there is almost no fog, but even then there is a bit of a post process of a sort to simulate the atmospheric haze, light scatter, you know, like how it is in real life.

I also like this effect of light interacting with hair.

The From game is definitely weird. In some shots, it looks worse than 2015 Bloodborne, but I keep seeing people say it looks "incredible". It's... weird.

LOL

Funny that you mention it because I just happen to finish TLOU2 on PS5 and I have to say that the baked lightning looks pretty awesome, especially interiors. It reminded me a lot of what I saw in Silent Hill 2 Remake using Lumen. It works really well for that game, since it doesn't have day and night cycle and environments are not particularly dynamic. I was very impressed to be honest and can't even imagine how much time, resources and effort Naughtly Dog put into baking all the lighting for that game. Their next game is presumably using RTGI so I'm expecting more ND goodness.

I’m 40 hours into AC and I still haven’t seen winter. My game reset to summer after unlocking Yasuke for some reason. Fall looked awesome though.
Keep progressing the story. The seasons change all the time to me.

Winter did come after i did some Yasuke flashback sequences once you get to Achila Castle. It should be under his personal missions in the Objective menus.

People were literally blaming Sony for the $70 retail price for games this gen when it was Ubisoft who started it (if I remember correctly). Yet people never shut up about Sony. Now Nintendo took it up a notch with this crap and on top of it they are releasing sega saturn looking games and no one is batting an eye. I wonder how they keep getting away with crap!

$70 is a fair price for digital games IMO.

$80 for graphically challenged titles - Nintendo are delusional.

This looks worse than some PS3 games.

Sony was the first to announce it, but EA, Activision and Ubisoft all followed within a day or two. They had all colluded together. Sony was just the first to announce.

$90 is utter nonsense especially when the game look that dated. Again, Sony had the decency to charge $60 for Astro bot and had $60 versions of their cross gen games up until HFW came out.

Best thing about Switch 2 exclusives is that they are using that more hardware power to actually make something useful and fun with the gameplay. They made Mario Kart World 24 players/open world and DK environments fully destructible. I'd like more devs outside of indie studios try do this with today's hardware power like lot did in x360/PS3 era.

??? That’s exactly what everyone else in the ps4 era. They all moved to open world. Forza horizon, the Crew. Most Sony studios went from linear to either wide linear or straight up open world.

Dks destruction looks really basic. Just like its levels. Ps4 and even some ps3 era games had much more complex visuals which is why there wasnt much destruction.
