Has Brian May Officially gone senile?

She's too big for Queen, but she could do glam rock pretty well if she wanted. But no.

The way I interpret this post is not saying that Gaga is larger and better than Queen as far as music history goes, but larger and more popular than they are in the music industry right now. Right now Gaga is one of the largest driving forces for the music industry, while Queen just has their well earned legend status.

Queen will be more fondly remembered in history, but as for the music industry of 2011, Gaga is the biggest act and she has no need to go to work for a band like Queen except for a stunt.

The Spider-man 2 soundtrack had a song by Brian May and a guy named Jimmy Gnecco. Never heard of him before but he has a band named "Ours." Listened to some of their stuff, hated it, but I love that song from the Spider-man 2 soundtrack. Based off that song alone I always thought he would do well covering Freddie's vocals.

Whats with that video of that singer guy? He was good but...

There's a big difference between singing to a webcam and having to do a full show and work the stage for 2+ hours every night for a couple of months.
I thought he was amazing, and the presence and stamina can be trained. I can't remember his name, anybody want to link that for those in this thread?

This is a joke. Brian May sounds like he's trying desperately to stay relevant by latching onto the meatcoat-tails of some shitty pop artist. He's always been a bit of a weirdo though.

Queen should just go the Journey route, hire someone like Gary Mullen (professional Freddie tribute singer, sounds VERY close) and just rake in the money

I still think the only new singer that would work for a new Queen is George Micheal, he killed it years ago at the Tribute and I don't think anyone has ever topped that

Hmmmm
I like them all.

Let's just put Queen, Gaga, and Muse all together and make music history. LOL

I really don't understand understand the hate for Muse on this forum. Muse is held as some low value, low iq music while shit like Radiohead is considered musical genius. Can someone explain why?
If it makes you feel better I think they both suck. /edgy

The nore I think about it, the more I want it to happen.
I dont like "gaga" at all, but she is a great singer and has tons of charisma. And her voice reminds me of mercury for some strange reason. I would love to see a tour with this combination

Muse are real musicians, lol. Just not great songwriters. This is real insanity, mind.

I actually don't think this is an awful idea. Clearly Freddie was in a league of his own and comparing him to Lady Gaga is silly, but as some others have said she's another larger than life personality and it would be interesting at least.

And then I'd watch it and probably hate my life. But who knows.

Old fart? I bet I'm younger than you are.

And as much as I love Tupac, his relevancy took a massive hit due to posthumous work, as it wasn't up to par to his work when he was alive. Sure for a while he was seen as the goat by even casual fans but now all these youngins barely know him and rather listen to crap like Lil' Wayne. And now this sex tape will give a massive hit to his relevancy if it turns out he has a small penis, our own resident Phoenix Dark is contemplating suicide due to this.

Freddy Mercury, on the other hand, seems to have had a big resurgence lately in popularity. It helps when you sang such universally known songs like We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions.

I like Radiohead but I'm not that big of a fan of their work. Muse is just boring "rock" executed with mediocrity, the sooner they're forgotten the sooner the music industry gets better.

Can you elaborate on this? They haven't been nearly as good lately, but Origin of Symmetry was a great album (and very creative as far as popular music goes). I can think of a lot worse bands and artists than Muse.

I'm no Gaga fan but the responses here are baffling. Why can't she sing the songs with them? It's not like she can't sing, or isn't talented.

Mika sounds far more like Freddy to me, but I've heard he isn't a great live performer

She IS too big for Queen -- which is to say that she'll make more money touring solo and performing her own material than she would splitting the money with a bunch of other people. She'd be taking a pretty huge paycut, since there's more people who want to see "Lady Gaga" than there are who want to see "Queen + Lady Gaga". It'd be interesting for them to team up for a one-off concert or a benefit or a festival, but such a pairing is only going to alienate fans of both acts.

Her album bombing would suggest otherwise.

Is that a road you really want to go down? Because I'd bet pretty good money that Born This Way outsold Queen's last studio album....

I really don't know anything about Muse. I haven't followed them at all, but I liked The Resistance a lot. I didn't care for their other albums (they sound kinda whiny)

Voices like the one from Gaga are a dime a dozen. Just check any American Idol, X-Factor, Glee show... etc... same generic singer voice. Sure, they can sing... but again... no unique voices.

Lady Gaga is famous for the wrong reasons, not because of her voice. She represents what's wrong with the entertainment industry. She is more famous because of her "fashion" (which is shit) and trying to cause controversy with her videos (religion, sex, etc).

Queen has been around for almost 40 years, and their lead singer died in the 80's.

I don't think it's fair to compare the two.

Made in Heaven went 4x platinum and, according to The Guardian, sold 20 million copies worldwide.

huh?

I think her voice is pretty unique. I dont like her shtick but i can recognize her voice easily. unlike rihanna for example who has a billion soundalikes like the mr. saxobeat singer or even will smiths daughter

Thank you for being the only one who understood what I said. Dear Lord people.

Gaga in 2011 >>>>>>>>>>> Queen in 2011. That's all I was saying. Calm yo jaded jets

Well she only has another 15.2 million copies to go.
But I thought it wasn't a fair comparison! :P I'd argue that the sales data on Made in Heaven seems dubious. The only thing backing that assertion is an offhand comment in a Guardian article. The album peaked at 58 in the USA and none of the singles charted here either. But at the same time it may be right -- I'm not sure how Gaga can compete with a posthumous release years after Freddie Mercury's death, when there's all this emotion and pent up demand that will drive sales for even a mediocre album.

I'm not a fan but isn't 4.69 million great?
I guess its a steep decline.

Born This Way is supposedly at 8 million copies sold. I am not sure how anyone can call it a bomb....especially if your criteria for a bomb is something as ridiculous as "Her last single didn't get into the the UK Top 20." Queen's last single debuted at #17 on UK charts and immediately dropped out of the Top 20 the next week.

And yes, her latest single not charting in the Top 20 of the worlds second-largest market is an indicator that she is on the wane.

Except you're ignoring the US charts? And calling the album itself a "bomb" based on the performance of the 3rd single in one particular country?

Queen's last single peaked at 17 in the UK, Lady Gaga's peaked at 23. So I presume they are both "on the wane"?
