I just decided to buy a Meta Quest 3s today. Never had VR before. I don't really plan on using it for VR Games itself, but much rather for watching YouTube Videos and mirroring my PC Desktop to it, so that I can play games on a "big" "screen", while chilling on my couch.

Hope that works out the way I think it will.

Kinda excited tbh. I'm curious if this is gonna be a "16bit 2D/32bit 3D" kinda leap (for like Half Like Alyx), or if I can at least ditch traditional screens for it. That'd be awesome. Otherwise I might just return it. I've been eyeing VR for years.

Posting in hopes that someone might be using it in that way already and can give an encouraging review or something. I watched some brief reviews now, but I can't possibly grasp the whole vr thing within my 30minute "research". Kinda seems too good to be true, and usually this means it's not.

E: Stores here open up in around 4 hours, I'm n64-christma kinda excited :D

So Im building my first ever PC. Ive already got most components. Only thing left is a GPU. Im leaning towards a 4080 Super. Looking for a Black Friday deal. I just dont want to spend 2K+ on a 4090. I could wait on the 50 series or upgrade to 60 later on. Here's my setup, I wanna play at 1440p/60fps at max settings minimum.

LG UltraGear 34 Curved Oled
ASRock X870 Riptide mobo
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Corsair Vengeance 2x32GB@6000CL30
Seasonic Vertex PX-850 PSU
Kingston KC3000 2TB

Advice?

Anyone here ever do the Mac G5 to ATX conversion?

I have an old Mac G5 that’s been collecting dust for the longest time. It’s such a beautiful case still so I thought it would be a shame to never put it to use again. I was thinking if it’s possible to use as a new gaming pc when I’m ready to start building a new one. I been watching some YouTube’s about it and it doesn’t look like an easy task, and it’ll cost me some money still since I gotta get some kit. Also will need to do some cutting of the actual case. It’s a big project but I’m interested in trying. I’m in no rush for a new pc since I use gfn often. I can’t really afford a new pc currently but I can atleast get this case ready. Even throw in my current older pc to make sure it all fits.

Anybody ever do something like this?

I'm not sure about some things that I’ll do. Maybe get rid of the disc drive since I have no use for it. Maybe instead have new usb slots there instead, or maybe just throw a Bluray drive to simplify it.

I did not expect the 14900K to run so fucking hot, even after the microcode update

That is what happens when a company pushes clocks to the max.
On the other hand,12th gen is still pretty good. And doesn't have the issues of the 13 and 14th gen.

We will probably wont be seeing Intel comeback until de 385K next year

Read my story.

So I wanted to upgrade my x5800 to a 57003d sounds easy right?

As I'm taking my existing heat sink of the brackets seem loose. Ok easy fix right? Just tighten them. So I attempt with a flat head, the metal inside snaps inside the bolt and on the head. Becomes unusable.

Ok a hyper 212 new heatsink isn't expensive so I'll just buy a new one, the replacement parts alone aren't much cheaper and Amazon is quicker.

So I get my new 212 to replace my existing 212.
Doesn't have all the AMD parts.
Missing the back plate,ok not a huge deal I can use my existing one.

But missing the bolts, screws raised plastic piece you screw the mounting bracket that attaches to the cooler .

All the intel bits and bobs were included, just missing what I needed for AMD.
Completely infuriating and these 212 seems like trash to mount despite the cooler being decent.

I'm slightly marking out for the electrical tape over the RGB LED of the XFX logo, lol

Sounds like you need to return both coolers and buy one of them Thermalright Assassin coolers. But man, that's some tough luck right there.

Anyone thinking of getting a new monitor in the black Friday deals? My current pc died on me recently. Was saving up for a new build. Currently have 8 or 900 quid so far. Roughly looking at a 2k build price wise. Not top end but close enough (1440p I'm thinking) was thinking of buying the monitor first so I can use it with my ps5 while I'm waiting to get the rest of the build. My current monitor is an old 27 inch iiyama 60hz 1080p.

Is it worth looking for a good deal now or wait till next black Friday to pick one up. Was looking at the asus rog strix aqdmg oled 27 inch. Was on sale for £499 here in UK. My old pc was a sandy bridge from 2015 i think so was long overdue an upgrade. Just looking at getting back into pc gaming. I'm not one to buy into these panic deals. I'm just not sure if they'll be any cheaper next year. Any help would be great, cheers.

Stuff is so volatile and change so quick. Unless your current monitor isn't doing what you want, then I'd say buy. But if you think you can hold off while also saving for your PC build, I'd say wait. You might get an even slicker deal by waiting especially since the new stuff will be coming next year.

Cheers. Yeah I was thinking the same. Not in that much of a rush to be fair. Not normally one to panic buy just was looking to snag a bargain. Looking forward to a fresh new build. Not been in the PC game for years

What timing with the 5090 coming as my main gaming PC has decided to die.

It freezes right after booting up and restarts itself and the screen has these spots everywhere, sometimes much worse than this

I guess the 4090 died?

It still under warranty until late next year so will get it replaced with new tech

Hmm... does it boot in safe mode?

Try running this in safe mode and see what happens

Just to see if there is another problem somewhere other than the GPU
I will give it a shot and thank you.

I ruled out the RAM as I removed some of the sticks and same issue and only reason I tried the ram I saw this error pop up after a fresh windows install.

Have you tried removing the GPU from the slot?

I doubt it’s dust or anything like that but it never hurts to try before you having to RMA the thing…

I guess the GPU only works in safe mode because it’s running on lower clock speeds so it’s stable enough.

I’m assuming the motherboard/cpu doesn’t have any built in graphics
