So I open up passbook and the brightness immediately goes all the way up. Then it shows a page with a link to the App Store. When I click it, it seems to just show me random apps. How does this work?

Brightness goes all the way up because they expect these to be used with barcode scanners, which can scan better with the device on high brightness.

Does it go back down in brightness when you switch out to another app? I don't have an iOS 6 phone anymore to test.

I have a feeling it could be some ways off. Maybe Google wants users to throw a big fuss about functionality that's now missing in the new Maps app before proudly announcing that they've got the solution, LOL.

It would not at all suprise me if that was the case.

I hope they're just holding it back a few days for publicity stunt purposes.

My wife and I were at a hotdog stand in Seoul a couple of weeks back. The seller told her to take a photo of a barcode that was on his iPad, then something funky happened and it seems like we've setup a loyalty card with the dude!! I didn't really get it? It was like the future or something? is that what passbook is?

MapGate is going to be a pretty big deal IMO. Hopefully I'm wrong but I have a feeling A LOT of people are going to be angry.

Traffic information has been getting better as the week as been going on (I'm assuming more and more people are installing GM?) but there are also tons of restaurants near me that are in the wrong locations not to mention the lack of transit data.

This launch reminds me of the 3G (3gs?) launch when Apple decided to release a new phone, a new iOS, mobileme, iTunes and I want to say even a new version of OS X all on the same day.

I know a lot of people (myself included) have been harsh on this launch but A LOT of stuff under the hood everywhere is changing. Removal of the youtube app, worse maps app, app store is completely redone (as of 7:30 PST on the eve of the launch - still isn't working how it shoul), itunes music store is totally redone. Neither one are better IMO than the old ones. Passbook has the potential to be either awesome or the new Newsstand app. I could really see it going either way at the moment.

While not directly related to Apple - the new Twitter app got updated today, which a lot of people have said is for the worse. Could leave a bad impression for one of the bigger selling points of iOS6 - Twitter/Facebook integration.

Tomorrow a lot of people are going to update their phones to iOS6 and I'm not sure everyone will welcome the sheer number of changes that are going on.

This. Although I rather hope maps is a shitstorm, as that will hopefully force Apple to do something about it.

I expect the first class action lawsuit to be filed by the end of the day.

Works for me, it's just much more subtle in its adjustments than on iOS 5

You're right... brightness used to adjust straight away, but now it's slow and gradual. I was thinking it was going to adjust straight away like it used to. Turns out it takes a while.

Meh. I never use street view. And I usually get my transit info straight from a specific app. I find it easier to get transit info like that especially if I don't need directions.

Also, maps seems to load up really slow. I'm on a 4s and wifi. The 3d maps doesn't load as smoothly like apple showed at their conference. There's some slowdown and textures don't load up very fast.

Unless the GM isn't the final build, I'm pretty disappointed.

Maybe for you; I am just throwing out options for people. Both the options I posted work fine for me with little extra hassle. Apple announced their strategy at WWDC and I am not going to miss out on updates and new features just to have Google's transit information when there are alternatives available that get the job done for me. To my mind being an Apple fan or not is irrelevant.

edit: As Cjelly said, Apple announced at WWDC that they were providing APIs for local transit info. Let' see if they change their mind.

I can't help but feel the GM had some bugs.

The GM will likely be what is released today. Keep in mind GM does not mean bug free, it simply means that they were able to reach a satisfactory level of bug-free-ness without any showstoppers.

Personally I'm looking forward to being able to try Apple's mapping solution, is it perfect? By no means, but it does seem a bit more robust than Google's first iteration of Google Maps. These things take time, and while it is a regression, sometimes that is required to get back on the right path - cause let's face it, Google Maps on iPhone was at a developmental dead end - Apple should not be required to maintain Google's software, let Google deal with Google, and Apple deal with Apple.

Where I live I can't even get 3G from any of the big 3, I fully expect the aerial photography to blow.

I'm kind of surprised that when I hit Passbook's app store button that it goes nowhere. No passbook apps in the store yet? Just seems odd. Even at WWDC they were showing Starbucks and Delta mockups.

Hopefully Google releases that standalone Maps app soon. Since I live in U.K, I rarely used the transit/public transport feature before, but it was useful for finding new places when I had to travel. TFL takes care of the proper using public transport.

I just wish there was a easy way of getting to settings, have to love JB for ease of use sometimes. Changing brightness for example. But I keep encountering phone problems 6-9 months into my JB use, everything just gets messed up, even though I install only the bare necessities of Jailbreak features.

I think the link is messed up, I know Fandango just updated their app to include passbook support and I'm pretty sure Starbucks did as well although I can't get that to work yet.

Yea, honestly, I cannot complain about it. It gives me what I need. I have been using embark for a while because it has the schedule for the NYC subway. They posted an update and BAM, maps integration.

As for the product regression class action - everyone does realize you can go to maps.google.com on your phone and get transit directions right? It's not as pretty as the app but it works.
