Ah yes but that's an entirely new SMS app right? It doesn't plugin emoji into the default android SMS app? I thought it worked that way.

Hey I get the desktop view when visiting the verge on iPad now! Don't know if that's iOS or on the verge's end but either way yay!

You can install an emoji font to see (not very good) and get an emoji keyboard to send (not half bad) or use a custom rom with emoji support in the default sms app (e.g the popular CM roms).

I linked my contacts with Facebook and now I have a whole bunch of people I don't want in there.

I tried deleting them individually but it says "Facebook contact won't be deleted".

Does anyone know how to get rid of the ones I don't want?



Edit: I went into Contacts, selected groups at the top left hand corner, and deselected Facebook. They're still there, though I have hidden them thankfully.

I linked my Contacts to Facebook, then turned it off because it got too messy. Everything cleaned up nicely; the only remnant is that profile pics from Facebook have stuck.

Which I actually don't mind.

Oh okay thanks. I'll look into that because my mothers most cherished feature of any phone is emoji and she keeps bugging me about her new S3 not having it. ~_~

I think it's called de-friending them on Facebook.

GoSMS and similar apps are really easy to use. They can completely replace the default sms app and would be a seamless transition for a nontechnie; that's the beauty of Android. Ask in the Android thread for tips and then just download and install the best app for her.

Pretty much. Apple has tied the turn by turn so closely with Siri that they've left older iPhone users out in the cold.

I mean, the maps app isn't perfect on the newer devices but at least turn by turn offers something of a benefit. But for iPhone 4 users? Man, that maps "upgrade" is rough.

Should I update my apps first before iOS 6 or install iOS6 before the apps? I have over 15 updates in the appstore.

How can I take a Panorama via the Camera app with a 4S on iOS 6.0?

From what I've read, the 4S is supposed to be capable of it, but it's not under 'Options' when using the Camera.

It might be an issue with the fact that I have 6.0 from the beta?

On an iPhone 4, without turn by turn the update to maps is a massive downgrade. They should have just left the new maps for 4S and 5

The problem was seeing so many emoji apps in the play store and having no idea which to get. I'll try GoSMS now for her. I was hesitant to replace the default SMS app because I have no idea if the a downloaded app would be as solid and fast/secure/bug free/integrated with the OS etc as the default one would be but I'll take your word for it. Thanks again :)

That is probably it. The panorama stuff is something they announced at the iPhone 5 event, and I'm guessing made its way only into the GM.

I asked a bit ago, but the thread is moving fast. Do I have to do anything to update? Like do I have to back up game saves, messages, ANYTHING at all? Or does it just work?

Just make sure you have an iCloud backup.

I think it backs up iCloud automatically before starting the install because I noticed my last backup was the same time I started the OTA install. But you shouldn't even have to backup. Your stuff isn't touched. Wouldn't hurt to manually backup if you are paranoid about it. Just OTA install and done.

Holy crap. I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the Maps data because I was prepared for most areas in Brazil that aren't the more popular ones to look like garbage, but the ones I checked are pretty decent. Didn't expect places in the UK to look as bad as that.

Believe it's built into the OS now, so if it's a brand new phone yeah. GO SMS is an text messaging app that a lot of people use (including me until I get the new iPhone Friday) that has emoji support built in.

How do I get stuff back from icloud?

Looks like I lost EVERYTHING. I have most stuff checked to "on" for back up but now it tells me my backup in from 2011.

Please tell me this icloud service is actually useful.

Why can't google release their own "Google Maps" app. It's not like they're blocked by Apple to do so? I'll use it if it's available as I rely on Google Maps more than any other website or app.

P.S. My friend tried updating his phone via 3G but it's stating that it needs wifi connection. How come? Is it because of bad reception or is anyone else experiencing it as well?

And you're sure you've done a more recent iCloud backup?

I just did an iCloud restore for the first time. I was surprised by how well it worked.
Took my iPads cloud backup, restored data, then started downloading my apps.

They already plan to.

And the update was 600MB for me. So of course I needed wifi.

I actually like the new Maps app, I used it to find a GNC and it was very snappy and accurate. I dont get why everyone seems to hate it but oh well.

Im sure this has been asked before but does passbook just not work yet? It doesnt seem to do anything.

I don't think the third-party support for it is online yet. Give it some time to spin up.
