Never got into the first one because everything I saw seemed so... janky. It appears most of that is gone now? Might pick it up if the reviews match the previews!

This is going to be GOTY no ?
For me most likely...yep! :messenger_sunglasses:
But if GTA6 releases this year on consoles.....than all games just battle for the runner up place I guess.

And I am pretty sure there will be also some more "critical" reviews coming up which are focusing on the stuff which really counts in gaming...far left nonsense ideology! :messenger_winking_tongue:

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Game looks amazing but I doubt it'll get GOTY, it's a kinda niche game.

I am buying this day 1. But it seems to be getting favourable repo from Youtubers on stuff that was done 10 yrs ago by other games. 👇

Always a sign game will be praised a lot, nothing will be spared, a la Baldurs Gate 3.

Does that convert into GOTY awards remains to be seen.

Nice preview, must be a good palette cleanser for Ralph after Veilguard

Only that tangent he goes on about the save system is nonsensical, it's like he overlooked the possibility to save normally via schnapps.
Save and exit is really not meant for regular saving ffs.

Yeah, the developers obviously believe the correct way to play the game is by saving when automated or through schnapps. It's as if Skillup can't help himself but spam save because its an option, even though it's not in the spirit of the game

It's like people who play BG3 and constantly save before rolling dice, so they can get their desired outcome. It is not it's intended purpose. It will just make the majority of players enjoyment worse. KCD is all about the choices you make and the risks that come with it

Depends on if Nintendo brings the goods. New Metroid or Mario could blow most stuff out of the water.
It will blow stuff out of the water like Astrobot did last year. Reviewers and games media have a nostalgic hard on for platformers or old IP like Metroid. They are fun games, but are not revolutionary in the least

a game like Doom the Dark Ages will be better than Metroid on every level, but somehow review worse because its on Nintendo

Why the save and exit is not meant to be used regularly? I used it and never had an issue. I hope this is also included in KC2.

Ah you played them. How are they? Also Astrobot is not on the best Mario's games level. Not even close.

I can't even remember the last truly revolutionary game btw.

Elden Ring, BG3 and, TLOU2 are all revolutionary

A game like Mario Oddysey would review 5 points lower on metacritic and sell 10x less if wasn't a Mario IP

You just named 3 sequels as revolutionary. Which new features an systems never seen before in videogames did any of those titles bring to the table?

Odyssey isn't a top Mario either in my eyes. 3, world, 64 and Galaxy 2 would get my vote.

We are veering way off topic here though, might wanna reign it in before we get a slap on the wrists.

Exactly the same as BOTW.

Unlike Astrobot Rescue Mission, which brought a whole new dimension to platformers. Strange never seen it mentioned as one of the best in history, I wonder why.

Yeah but you used it when you wanted to save and...exit, right? As in go do something else.
He is talking about using it and then restarting the game to keep playing...nonsensical.
I have to admit...I installed a mod for "free saving anywhere". :messenger_hushed: But yeah, will try it without this time....because I really liked the alchemy stuff.

To me as long as i don't lose progress then it's fine, at first the game didn't had save upon exist, which is ridiculous tbh, i get that it's creative to do the drink to save, but i don't like making basic mechanics like saving to much complex that i need to think when to use that drink or not, i'm happy they later on added another option, just like Returnal also did.

Agreed I get what the devs are trying to do but man give us a break some of us have family and real life obligations.

So...outside of obviously different story and slightly better visuals, most of it is all the same including the tedious crafting, garbage janky melee fighting system, etc. I thought the first was just ok, like a 7'ish game. Im not day one on this. Oh yeah and the performance is probably going to suck dick. I reinstalled the first to see how well it runs nowadays and its still shit in most towns, not even maxed. I expect this to run just as bad.
One mans jank is another mans 10/10... for me. I loved kcd and bought it on multiple systems. The game is breath of fresh air for immersion that you don't see anymore. The fighting had some of the most intense moments I have had. I loved early on battling a camp of bandits with a shitty rusted sword and trying to out wit them in the woods, without being surrounded.

Never played KD1.

I've actually never played a medieval RPG that wasnt fantasy with dragons, skeletons and traditional shit like that. Kill the monsters, clear the caves, find magic artifact X in a temple on a mountain to create a dimension door etc...

So if KD games are more realistic and grounded, what's the typical quests to do????
Go hang out with monk priest, get drunk with said priest at the tavern get the balif to throw you out, have sex with the tavern wench while the preist is getting it on too, then waking up to climb the bell tower and wake up the town. Do a sermon for the priest while you are hung over, and try to convince the people that you are not some peasant that can't read yet..

Have sex with some nobles wife, steal a horse and escape. Kill off bandits in the woods, solve the mystery of bandits that torched a horse farm settlement and the people there.
Farkle gambling, stealing items for prostitutes, using the bathhouses, target practice, Learn to read, picking herbs, making potions by ingredients and big alchemy labs that you actually have to grind and mix, and cook things the right way (not like skyrim).

Its a fantastic game and I am sure the 2nd will be even better.
I didn't even really mention any of the war/fighting and those style quests.

Sometimes a mod will pop in in my experience but not much. we were wildly off topic though and folks where discussing the game at the same time I dont like getting in the way. All good.
Conversation needs to flow naturally and some detours are always fun and worthwhile. I prefer the more laissez faire approach here than the tyranny on Resetera. It's why I never bothered signing up there.

Am about 50 hours in and midway through the main quest. A lot of the side stuff (hell even this stretch of the main q) is very fetch quest barring a few exceptions here and there. If they want to be the Witcher 3 level of upgrade, KCD 2 needs to have way better quest design.

All the quests identified as « tasks » are not really worth doing in the first game. Otherwise don’t agree so much with you for the true side quests. Some are like that but a lot felt original and not focused on combat imho

Been doing the Lady of Talmberg quest and its juts gather these 3 things for a wedding. Sure there are a few wrinkles in the way but its a literal fetch quest.

Even the standout one I did for Sir Hans in the bathouse its just gather the wine and then gather the flower. Of course you have to run back and forth for that too. If this was a true immersive sim then sure its fine but stealth options are laughably limited since you cant really distract a guard or talk him into letting you in.

The one really fantastic one is the Playing With the Devil. That had a great little story and a number of ways it could go. Also did the Womens Lot dlc that was fantastic too. Those two can go head to head with Witcher.

I guess I want more political intrigue instead of being a postman peasant especially because Henry is pretty much Sir Radzig top man now and can be used to spy and such.

There are actually five ways to save in KCD.

1. Saviour Schnapps
2. Sleeping in a Bed
3. Bathhouses
4. Quest/Story Progression
5. Exit Save

I think that is a fair criticism. There are 50 sidequests in the base game. Some are definitely better than others. In terms of previews of KCD2, the most consistent praise was the crazy level of side content that you randomly stumble upon. How Henry can tackle quests in very unique ways.

One Polish reviewer 80hrs in, said KCD2 has the best writing of any game he has played and the best Side content, including Witcher 3
