Possibly the most boring gaming experience I've ever endured, obviously some people love it but it wasn't for me.
I don't know man. Sure you spend a lot of time on the horse admiring the scenery but the rest of the time it's either good gameplay, immersive role-playing or watching a scene with good writting.

Is that RDR2 avatar? Confusing, since KCD2 is the best thing since RDR2 and has quite a lot in common with it in regards to immersion and world building.
Just yesterday I was thinking about how both games are very similar in some aspects but also how KCD manages to be better in many of them. It's just more fun to play imo.

I love RDR2 but agree that core gameplay of KCD2 is more "fun" since controlling Arthur is a bit chorey.
I am also not a huge fan of Rockstar's extremely linear mission design. Of course, they get away with it because the missions are so well written, but KCD2 being much more open (while equalling it in writing quality) is definitely an improvement.

Maybe I didn't give it enough time 12hrs and gave up. As for the RD2 comparison it simply pales in terms of a simulated world and although it's story seemed good the characters are no where near as compelling.

Thinking about I'm going give it another go, I want to like it and the opening few scenes I did enjoy.

Agree to disagree! I think the characters in KCD are amazing. I remember playing the first game and having the feel that the writting was on the level of a good TV show or movie. World simulation I think is good, specially in the 2nd game with the expanded crime system and NPCs being more reactive.

Rockstar's writting and characters are very good as well. Was playing RDR2 not long ago and was surprised at all the different lines of dialogue the people at the camp had to say.

I think you'll do fine giving it another go. It's a slow game but I think it's worth the time investment.

12h is nothing for this game. Especially as the beginning is the roughest part of the game. Your skills are bad, you are weak, you cant do shit, you have no clue how anything works in the game (unless you played the first game). I would recommend first thing to do...is getting enough money (around 120 groschen/coins) to get you a room in a nice tavern...not for one day...but for longer (basically unlimited time). Zhelejov is ideal for this. Than use this tavern as your hub and go exploring the whole map from there.

I haven’t been this absorbed in a game since the first time I played oblivion. I’m obsessed. I was doing some quests in kuttenburg and somehow that turned into “hey I’m going to hide in the swordsmiths basement and rob him at midnight. I then proceeded to pick the entire market dry. lol

I’m at the point where I can pick very hard locks, run like the wind, sword fight like a master, and talk my way out of some nasty situations. The RPG character growth is simply some of the absolute best.

This was my initial impression when I tried 1 way back in the day. Make sure you're in the mood for a real slow immersive peasant simulator, cause that's what it is and if that's not what you're in the mood for then it can ruin the whole experience for you.

It's all about 'the journey' more than the destination, and damn that glow up feels so goooood

You gotta push through the opening like 20 hours, get good at all the skills: lockpicking/fighting by doing them repeatedly (it levels you up and makes them way easier, the game basically makes you SEVERELY underpowered at the start)

Finished the story and have the achievement for "completing most of the games content". GOTY. No question. An absolute masterpiece and a game I'll come back to every so often. In the same league as Skyrim and such.
It’s honestly prob better than Skyrim based on the fact that it seems to have choices that actually have an effect - the stuff they praise New Vegas for - while maintaining the simulated world aspect - its combat is deeper/better as well

Nah, 12 hours is nothing. Game gets easy around 25 hours when you have armor and have upgraded your strength and stamina so you can actually do damage and pull off some combos without tiring. And then you can focus on the the story and the campaign missions which are way better than the ubisoft quality side quests.

Just stick with it. Cutscenes are legit great. Characters are interesting. Story keeps you hooked and there is actual decision making/role playing during dialogue scenes. what a novel idea for an RPG in 2025, i know!

hell, i would say forget the open world and just do the story missions. go to the wedding. that whole quest is basically the tutorial for the game. they give you armor, sword, and a bunch of other gear for free during that questline. by the time you are done with the wedding and the subsequent story missions, you should have a bunch of high quality gear that will make the open world a lot easier. hell, there isnt much combat in that entire questline so just do the blacksmith part of the quest, get to the wedding and the quest after, and dont even worry about being underleveled.

Just did the Fort mission. It was really well written in that they dont really make it obvious but Henry slowly starts to catch on. I got there before Henry, but I rather enjoyed doing detective work. Really cool mission. Havent played a lot of these recently. I just wish there was another way to get to that cellar. It didnt feel satisfying how easily i was able to get there.

The game clearly has some great ideas, but the execution is not quite there. They make you talk to so many characters in that fort, and several spill the beans, but in the end, it basically comes down to you stealing the keys and just walking in the cellar right in front of everyone. Maybe let threaten a guard or talk an NPC into taking me there. Or have me sneak in through the back or something. They actually dont allow you to go into a section at the bottom of the fort. there is a basement there so i figured there would be a tunnel leading back into the prison cellar but nope. its just 'more evidence'. It's a small thing, but it wouldve made this level go from great to truly fantastic.
