Left-handed preschool kid deemed "evil", forced to learn to write with right hand

My daughter draws with the left hand, I once attempted to tell her to try from the right she slapped my hand and continued with her play. I haven't attempted it again :( don't think I need to anymore it's her natural hand now
"Now"? It was always her natural hand. Why would you even try to change her to begin with?

wow, i didn't even know that this sort of thing could happen, even 100-200 years ago.... i learned something...

so where in the bible does it says that the devil is left handed?

I think I was ambidextrous as a kid. My teacher would always shout at me for attempting to write with my left hand or eating with my knife/fork the wrong way round or using objects like scissors.

This was in Scotland.

Speaking of mice, I use my own mouse with the left hand at work but I'm totally fine with using my right hand while I'm at someone else's PC. I find funny how I can use my second hand for simple things while right people seem totally unable to do the same...

The mother approached the teacher, and he responded by giving her an article saying the devil was left-handed and labeling lefties as “unlucky,” “evil” and “sinister.”

Keep this crazy son of a bitch the fuck away from kids.

This happened to me when I was a kid. Grandmother belted my left arm to my side permanently when I was at home (my parents were out of the pitcture when I was younger) so I couldn't use it. Only result was over a decade of speech therapy and me being unable to vocally communicate effectively until I was 16 because of a horrid stuttering problem that showed up because of it.

I write with my left and do things like throwing with my right. I'm more or less ambidextrous, depends on how I learned it or was more comfortable with.

This is some fucked up shit.

I remember hearing about this being a thing in the past. With the emphasis on past.

I had the foolish idea in my head that we might have moved on from it.

Tell me, why is it better? Please don't answer with, well everybody is doing it or your hand gets smudged while writing with your left hand.
Lots of things in life are built to accommodate right handedness, it's not necessarily better but definitely more convenient.

Well you have access to more in the modern world in terms of products. Computers are mostly built around right handedness though these days you can find left handed ergonomic mice the range is small.. And you will struggle early in school in writing there is no if or buts about that. There exists evidence that points to right handed people living longer as well but there is debate on how much longer.

When I was in the second grade I was forced to learn to hold a pencil correctly. I still do it wrong, by holding it against my nameless finger

It's ok, God can support a lefty from time to time. Sure, it will be to let him murder people in his name, but what else can you do with such evil nature ?
But seriously, just give him a list of famous left-handed people in history to show there's nothing wrong with it. Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Queen Victoria, Bill Clinton, ...
Wait, he may be onto something after all !

I'll go with Gnome here. It's a factor of convenience. Calling it better puts being right handed above being left handed. Semantics, I know.

Hm, I read a study about that or was it a cracked article? I don't know. Left handed people die earlier in some cases because heavy machinery is build around right handed plebs, so there are more work accidents involving left handed people.

I went to a Catholic school from kindergarten through junior high, and even they didn't pull that shit with me. That teacher needs to crawl back under the ancient rock from whence he scurried.

Left-handed people having shorter life spans was always a myth.

As for product accessibility, I can't speak for everyone in this thread, but being left-handed and having some degree of cross-dominance isn't unheard of (I have no need for things like left-handed mice or left-handed scissors, for instance).

The devil is also portrayed everywhere to be a male. Should we ban everyone from being a male too? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But that's the truth. Writing with a left hand, especially when you were using a pen or a ball-point with an ink that wasn't drying instantly, was frustrating. :|

Never heard of the connection between lefties and the devil until now.
Funny of all the stuff my parents did they never mentioned anything like this.

Did some researching and came across this.

ear Mr. Black

It seems clear to me that you are a "left-hander" who just don't want to change. Well I can't say I'm sorry, that you're gonna burn in Hell for that.
You are right about one thing though. I’m sincerely sad that I do not master God’s own language “American” to perfection yet. Unfortunately, I am raised in Denmark, where Denmarkian is the first language.
As for my opinions... They are, as you can see, based on the Bible’s words, and in clear contrast to you, I believe in each and every one of the scriptures in the Holy Book.
In addition… You should probably be careful to criticize my way to write, as long as you choose to write God without a capitalized G. Enjoy Hell.

Must be fake...

Has to be fake lmao

I remember my English teacher in high school saying something like "If I had my way, I'd teach you to write with your right hand even if I had to break your left". I thought that was a joke, but it seems people actually go really hard on this shit.

Why do people (who want you to write with your other hand) even care about that? In the end they do more damage to those left-handed kids by trying to handicap them due to purely ideological reasons.

No way. This is gold.

Is this real? I am reading through the whole thing now, and it seems that if this is a fake, it is a very elaborate one.
This cant be real.

Jesus H. Christ.

How are you expected to remain optimistic about the future of mankind when faced with these levels of stupidity?

Well, for one, Pikmin 3 doesn't offer left handed controls when using the touch screen controls. Why do you hate me nintendo.

I'm a rightie and I can confirm I've done some evil things in my life. Some I'm proud of, some I'm not. Guess the devil got confused?

Teacher tried to do this to my older brother, problem was he was ambidextrous. Joke was on her. Came in handy when he hurt his left hand.

They tried to pull this shit with my brother actually ... so more like 1970s/80s.

Luckily (for me) with all the crap he went through, it wasn't too bad when I attended school a few years later.

Granted the reasons weren't biblical. More lack of teacher training and supplies. You don't know the pain of trying to use those tiny scissors with the wrong hand :(

Same for me when I started school in '96-97. I gravitated towards my left hand for writing (the only one in my class). They had like one half functional pair of lefty scissors and lefty learning materials from the fucking late 80s because us lefties are so rare.

they tried this shit with me, till they realised how shit my right hand writing is/was, in sports I learned how to bat right handed for cricket and in my early martial arts training I had to lead with my left but I think this made me better cos I can now generate decent power from my right :)

It's hilarious, and fortunately fake though indeed, very elaborate.

I was expecting this to have happened in some village in some ass-backwards Middle East or African country that is notorious for such kinds of news. Guess we need to update what the "A" in "G/A/F" means.

http://education.leadstories.com/00...s-4-year-old-writing-left-handed-is-evil.html
KFOR-TV reporter Abby Boyles confirmed to Lead Stories that all the mother received was a printout of the online article intended to help parents and teachers identify which hand a child should use. The teacher sent the article -- "When Will I Know Which Hand She Will Use?" -- to Sands in response to her question about why her son, who she thought was left-handed, was writing with his right hand.
It appears that the article given to the mother by the teacher was from PediatricEducation.org. The quote in question:
In many western cultures, right-handedness was/is considered the “correct” or “right” hand to use, and left-handedness was unlucky or inauspicious. The word “sinister,” meaning left-sided, derives from various sources as early as the 15th century. There are numerous cultural examples of left-handedness being associated with the idea of wickedness. For example, the devil is often portrayed as left-handed, and people throw salt over their left shoulder to ward off the evil spirits that dwell there.

Way back in the day they'd cut a finger off to make it harder to write with the left than right. Shit's cruelty.

As a lefty, my childschool teachers weren't properly trained in teaching me to write correctly with my left hand which leads me to strain my wrist and muddle my writing more than necessary. I write below my hand instead of above. I'm still having difficulty adjusting as a 23-year old.

It did grant me membership in the sorcerers-lodge though.
