Left-handed preschool kid deemed "evil", forced to learn to write with right hand

As a lefty that was really sad to read :( Can't imagine if someone had forced me to learn using my right hand. That would be really discouraging to any kid.

My mother instructed us to steer my youngest brother to use his right hand when he was little. It wasn't for any religious reason. It was because everything is made for right handed people.
 
yep, that's how they used to do us. I had to hide the fact that I could write bible verses backwards with my left hand or else it was the punishment closet for me.

My first grade teacher tried to get me to write right-handed. My mom went in and fixed that.

Though, I do use my right hand for other things like using a pool cue, shooting guns, etc. It all depends on how I was taught.
 
Being left handed is awesome for sports. Everyone is used to righties and a dominant left player in anything throws people out of their defensive comfort zones.
 
All these stories of left handed people being forced to write with their rights are depressing me.

I love that I'm a lefty. One of those little things in life that shouldn't matter but still does a lot to me.

Particularly boxing or any sort of unarmed combat. One theory of why left-handedness still exists is that it gives lefties an advantage in combat. While the theory didn't pan out when looking at aggressive tribes, the research into the increased effectiveness of left-handed fighters was pretty solid.

That makes sense. In boxing or any type of combat, the right handed person is most likely going to have trained against people that are also right handed. Fighting a left handed person and having all of their power strikes coming from the opposite side they're used to is going to throw off their game.

Meanwhile, the left handed person has likely trained against righties exclusively, so they are in their comfort zone.
 
I had this happen to me a bit in the 80's when I was in primary school here in Australia, didn't think anyone still did this sort of stupid shit. Fucker.
 
It's true. When people try to use a polygraph to discover all my evil lefty plots, I have them hook my left hand to the machine because I can lie with it so easily.

My grand father is proper ambidextrous because he was forced to write with his right hand... That's pretty cool, actually.

I can't believe this shit still goes on. As a lefty, I find this particularly offensive!

My teacher forced me to write right-handed when I was a kid because of devilry. My mom is still super-salty about her fights with that witch.

So I'm a weird mix now where I write with my right hand but am a left-handed shooter. Kind of inconvenient at times!
 
My buddy went to catholic school, and was programmed like this. He is a lefty that was taught to write with his right hand.
 
One thing though, I never understood why some lefties use left handed keyboards or position the mouse on the left side. I've never had any issues with it.

Well I use my mouse on the left side, just because of gaming, just more adept on that side over my right.
 
Same thing happened to me in Preschool. I was left handed, they forced me to be right handed, so now I'm poorly ambidextrous. Meaning I'm shit with both my hands instead of good with one specifically.
 
I was in pre-primary in 1997 and I was encouraged to write with my right hand. I stole left-handed scissors out of spite. I remember being really frustrated because I couldn't write properly with my right hand and could with my left, yet that wasn't good enough for some reason.

And now I'm mixed-handed. I'm not sure if I always was or just succumbed to the pressure of a right-handed world. Now I have the joy of people being amazed that I write left-handed AND that I do some other things right-handed. You know, provided they believe it's actually a thing. Mixed-handed people are the bisexuals of handedness.

I think it just depends on how far you swing one way or the other. I'm a lefty and can't use the mouse with my left hand. I can't use left-handed scissors either.

Yep, same. While I can't write worth a damn with my right hand, I've never had any issues doing just about anything else with it.
 
I'm super left-handed but I clumsily use my mouse in my right hand cause it's a real hassle to switch keyboard configurations around every computer I use.

And yes, people trying to force you to be right handed really really sucks
 
My mom said I was a lefty until I started school. They forced me to write with my right hand. I still use my right. Glad I corrected my evil ways.
