Left-handed preschool kid deemed "evil", forced to learn to write with right hand

It's fucking biology.

How is the teacher not fucking blacklisted for performing fucking child abuse?
Yeah, this just isn't right.

It really got out of hand.

Pretty obvious that there is more left to do here.

I mean, on the hand for the kids I can see that progress can be a little messy when going against the grain, but on the other hand the teacher's methods are just backwards.

I'll take trying way too hard for 800.

This happened to me when I was in kindergarten. I'm a natural lefty, but I write with my right hand.

I can't write with my left hand at all.

I write with my right but jerk off with my left.

This actually happened to my dad. He was born left-handed (and passed this gene along to my brother and I), but the nuns who were his elementary school teachers back in the olde uber-Catholic days of Québec would slap him on the wrist with rulers and tell him it was the devil's hand, so he was forced to switch as a boy.

That this would still happen today, in a so-called first world country, is nothing but sheer craziness.

I was left handed until learning to write... :(

Nowadays I'm pretty ambidextrous. Except for writing. Writing is too damn difficult to learn with both hands.

I am ambidextrous but was not allowed to use my left hand.
In the beginning I wrote on left side with left hand and with my right hand on right side.
Teacher didn't allow that so my parents had to chose and they said right.

I'm 31 and went through this as well.

My grandmother didn't just say using your left hand was evil, as well. Said you are evil if you use your left hand for anything.

And so, i was beaten.

Probably my earliest memory too.

Trying to eat, grab a sandwich or drink with my left hand, use fork for pasta, write, FWACK! SMACK!, beaten. Big long piece of wood, bare hand, belt, you name it, it came my way.

I wonder how many times I was beaten?

Best not to try to remember.

I don't know what the fuck I have for a brain, but for some reason, I never gave in. Still proudly learned how to write and use my left hand.

My daughter draws with the left hand, I once attempted to tell her to try from the right she slapped my hand and continued with her play. I haven't attempted it again :( don't think I need to anymore it's her natural hand now

I repeat: this is fucking abuse.

I also love how the Christian Right thinks everyone else is just a fucking moron that has not read anything.

This shit was done to me by my parents. I used everything left-handed, school said it was okay too. But my parents forced me to use chopsticks right-handed. They couldn't make it work so they left me at the task of picking up marbles(!) with chopsticks right-handed. If I let it fall, they hit my hand each time with a stick, hard enough for another red swollen mark to stay for the rest of the day.

Needless to say I don't speak with them anymore. I'm more like the devils' child if anything.

I use my mouse, scissors and chopsticks with my right-hand. I write with my left and I don't really have a dominant arm/hand. Both are the same strength with the same accuracy. If I needed or wanted to, I can switch and be a little bit slower with the other hand due to inexperience, but can learn it in no time. Turned into a hybrid thanks to that training.

I had a left-handed friend in elementary school whose parents made him learn to write with his right hand. His handwriting was awful, but he had a good excuse.

but hey, they had "good intentions" amirite

Hmmm....

Oakes Elementary School doesn't sound like a private christian school.
They shouldn't be doing this in any school. In the UK religious schools are held to the same standards as normal schools.
This teacher should be treated as having a mental illness if they consider 'left handed people being the work of the devil'.

My mom told me when I was a baby I used to use my left hand to hold my bottle. She would try to switch the bottle to my right, in which I would immediately put the bottle back in my left.

NOW I'M SWIGGIN' BOTTLES OF HENNESSY THANKS A LOT MOM

My dad is a lefty and he writes with his right hand because they forced him to when he was a kid, just the same as this.

He's only 60 but that's how they rolled in mainstream Canada back then....

Wow, this is really really old fashioned. My grandfather can write with both hands thanks to this kind of shit. Doesn't sound too bad I know, but if you consider they would hit him for writing with his left hand…

I've been left handed all my life. Not too long ago I found some old progress reports from grade school and there were some comments on how I "had trouble using scissors for my age" and I vaguely remember that being a minor problem when I was a kid.

It made me so angry now. THE GODDAMN SCISSORS WERE ALL DESIGNED FOR RIGHTIES. To this day I still use scissors in my right hand because I had to learn! THE AGONY! THE INJUSTICE!

That was due to the stigma. They could just mirror mold from jump. Blame the right people. Not the free market.

My grandfather told me when he was younger before the actual war broke out in Germany he and many others were forced to use their right hand. It was a systematic thing in many German schools AFAIK.

Lol. Real talk, the dude was crazy but a little bit of conforming can work out to our benefit in the end. Endless entertainment when people try to use my computer at work while I'm comfortable with both hands. Semi proficiency at right hand gives some entertaining opportunities for hustling at pool, darts, etc even if just for laughs.

My dad did the same thing to my sister. Except it wasn't writing with her left hand he was concerned about, it was eating with her left hand.
