Marvel's Spider-Man continues to be one of the best superhero video games released in the last decade, thanks in no small part to Yuri Lowenthal's committed and passionate performance as Peter Parker, and the overall lighthearted tone that keeps players feeling good over the course of its 20-hour runtime. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that you run out and buy it if you've already played the base game at launch, but if you're looking for an excuse to jump back in and take a crack at all the DLC missions that have released since then, you can't go wrong here.

Marvel's Spider-Man is still a great game and if you've still not picked it up, I highly recommend it. On PlayStation 4, the technical wizardry pales in comparison to what Insomniac cooked up on PlayStation 5. Now, PC players will finally be able to experience one of the best PlayStation exclusives on their rigs and it is without a doubt exciting to see PlayStation get serious about supporting PC. While the game isn't overwhelmingly different on PC, the added settings PC players have come to love to fiddle with will make this a wonderful experience.

It's a fun time. Got the platinum and really enjoyed it.

That said, I couldn't finish Miles Morales when I got it, so I was feeling a bit burned out on the formula by then. Hoping part 2 pushes the boundaries on new content and new gameplay.

It's a fun time. Got the platinum and really enjoyed it.

Yeah I can't wait, I want it to be like a Arkham City, to Knight level of increase in the quality of everything, just really perfect it.

I 100%'d 2018 myself back when it released and then I redid it and all the DLC with a friend so that definitely helped, we did 2018 and then MM basically back to back but even with him doing most of the playing I couldn't be bothered to do every camp in 2018 again due to repetition and in MM we just both fucked off getting gold on some of the side stuff because it was so rigid and failing was so random it felt like, probably because we both disliked the stealth and barely ever used it so we weren't used to activating it manually when doing those side challenges. If MM had been any longer than it was we might have got bored before even doing most of the side stuff.

Great game, my two complaints would be those Mary Jane sections and the way the game really kicks in at around 60/70%.
Also I hope a mod can replace Tom Holland with the old and better face.

I already own the PS4 collectors edition with all the DLC but didn't have the PS5 edition since it was locked behind Spiderman: MM limited edition. Im gonna double dip and play this maxed out 4k120 with DLSS hopefully.

For such a braindead game, I really liked it. All you really do is swing around and fight but both were done well enough to keep me from getting bored. There's just a few key things that set the fighting apart: Webbing enemies instead of knocking them out, having full access to all your swinging and traversal moves through every fight, and having to choose a direction to dodge instead of the dodge being totally free. And there's enough moves and airtime to give it a little of that dmc freestyling feeling.

the patch today apparently changed so much stuff that Alex didn't want to release it, not even with a disclaimer

Wow. PC blows away PS5. The PS5 building literally looks like a flat surface with some blurry boxes textured on it. PC has incredible detail from reflections, window sills, actual windows and even that concrete pattern behind his foot that goes vertical.

that was the trade-off for the long drawdistane in reflections.
it was the right choice for the game but it doesn't hold up to scrutiny up close.
this is why I always cringe a bit when people say that Insomniac's RT is in some way superior to what other devs do.

the comparison that came up the most at the beginning was with Watch Dogs Legion, which also is an open world game with RT reflections.
Watch Dogs has a way lower draw distance for reflections, but the actual quality of the assets used in reflections is WAY higher than in Spider-Man,
and that was the correct choice for that specific game as well.

in Spider-Man the reflections are there so they look good while swinging through the city, high up, seeing all the skyscrapers that actually belong there being reflected.
in Watch Dogs Legion you are often right in front of a highly reflective surface, with high detail right near you, so that needs to be reflected as accurately as possible to not come across as unfaithful

Makes sense. No wonder all those old Spidey videos would show him zipping around the city 40 floors high. Looks awesome sky high. Not so great when it's a static photo.

it gets worse on roof tops... some legit look like N64 graphics in the reflections.
I honestly prefer Spider-Man's solution, but you have to live with these drawbacks

Sony games had "original" quality settings in the past that mimicked console settings, I wonder how it will be here
more interesting will be if you can change resolution and asset quality of the reflections separately

IMO it's more early PS2 than N64. an N64 game wouldn't have 3D balconies and would have all flat buildings, those rectangular, detailless balconies are elevating it to PS2 imo

yeah but every cheap RTX card has like 2x the RT performance of the PS5, and that's what's the topic at hand
you can also of course then add DLSS to that and you are having really damn good image quality at a low price.

you could have MagaMan 10 style graphics and simply add The Witcher 2's highest DoF setting for the background layer and it instantly would fry the GPU of all consoles while not looking dramatically demanding at first glance.

I can assure you based on Insomniac's GDC talks about their engine, that R&C is pushing their streaming engine further than what they did with Spider-Man.

get a used RTX 2060ti, get a cheap CPU, like a 9th gen i5 or a Ryzen 1600, get some decent DDR4 ram and a 500GB SSD.

if you are looking for good prices online you can get that together with a cheap case and a cheap power supply for around 500 bucks, maybe +/- $50

Indeed, the image was from DF's analysis. I think it could have been better if they'd shown a more appropriate GPU in relation to the PS5, like a 3060 Ti with DLSS and it would make for a more interesting comparison.

But I'm complaining over spilled milk so never mind.
