How does Gundam Breaker 2 compare to Gundam Breaker 1?

Gundam Breaker 1 PSV version was a late port
01./00. [PS3] Gundam Breaker <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.06.27} (¥7.980) - 200.564 / NEW
07./00. [PSV] Gundam Breaker # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.10.31} (¥6.980) - 33.775 / NEW

Gundam Breaker 2
06./00. [PS3] Gundam Breaker 2 # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2014.12.18} (¥8.208) - 66.532 / NEW
07./00. [PSV] Gundam Breaker 2 <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2014.12.18} (¥7.171) - 57.188 / NEW

Well Vita finally joins the YoY drop game.

Wii U sales are abysmal.

3DS sales are good, but it's seems official now that the new 3DS isn't going to completely stop the decline the console was heading towards.

Edit: A pricecut will barely help the Wii U. It will be back below 10k a few weeks after.

A new title from Gundam series released for PS3 and PSV.
The new iterations of Pokémon, Monster Hunter, Aikatsu!, Attack on Titan or Taiko no Tatsujin.
Some evergreen games such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Kart 7 or Tomodachi Life.

The difference is that practically everything is in big decline.

So Animal Crossing is going to probably remain the 3DS best selling SKU right?

Yes if we include digital sales.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 4.570.000 units shipped as of March 31, 2014.
Pokémon X / Y - 4.420.000 units shipped as of September 30, 2014.

Note: Pokémon X / Y only shipped 50.000 additional units in the first half of this fiscal year.

Chances of a redesign are extremely low. Nintendo doesn't want to lose any more money, and they know there's really nothing they could do on the Japanese market for the Wii U.

Introducing a new redesign wouldn't really have any real impact. What the Wii U needs is games, and unfortunately, there's only so much they can do in that regard.

Actually a revision with a smaller and more ergonomic touch controller could benefit sales. Off screen play and touch controls will work just as well and the TV itself provides the big screen. The new controller screen could be the size of the 3DS LL's or even the N3DS'.

I don't know how much they can lower the prize with a smaller screen but it is also a chance for a relaunch. Add some N3DS like improvements that aren't absolutely necessary but still useful and you can appeal to the untapped audience as well as people eager to double dip but without irritating those who are fine with their current Wii U.

Both the smaller controller and a redesigned (more ergonomic) large one could be sold separately as well for those who just want to change controller designs and keep their console.

3DS isn't heading towards a decline. It's already well into its decline. IIRC 2013 already saw a YoY decline vs 2012, despite megaton 2013 releases like Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing, Zelda, and Monster Hunter 4.

But what's the reason for that? xD

This is super stereotypical point view, but here is how it goes:

Nintendo hardware and software: Parents buy them as Christmas presents for kids, leads to sales spike in December.
Other gaming related things (like Sony's): Some kids spend new year special allowances to buy them (usually does not equal to the amount of Nintendo related stuff parent chooses at Dec).

Actually a revision with a smaller and more ergonomic touch controller could benefit sales. Off screen play and touch controls will work just as well and the TV itself provides the big screen. The new controller screen could be the size of the 3DS LL's or even the N3DS'.

This is just my anecdotal evidence but by looking around my family and ppl I know, this is the must for Japanese market. By looking WiiU's TV ads the first thing ppl (does have some interest in gaming console but not by much) say is "why is the person holding the huge bulky thing?" or something close.

I think even without an (external) redesign, we're 3 years later in 2015, they could make the internals a lot more cost efficient for the next batch of wiiu's they produce.

Animal Crossing released in 2012.

But yes, you are right. 3DS declined by ~600k YoY from 2012 to 13. I don't really think they can do anything to stop this, since it doesn't seem to be related to software releases. Best they can do is slow down the decline and end up with the 3DS outselling PSP's lifetime sales by a bit (which is pretty impressive considering the market situation).

We'll see if this is a lasting effect on the Japanese handheld market (caused by smartphones) when Nintendo's next system comes out. Until then, we just have to assume that the market, as it is, is saturated.

Nah they haven't been manufacturing enough to benefit much from reductions in cost.

However if their next console has a screen in the controller I expect it to be much smaller; I actually expect them to use the exact same screen that goes in their handheld.

The console itself is already tiny, quiet, cool and cheap. What we really need is a "Gamepad mini" cost reducing revision and a steep price drop (¥200/$199) to go along with it.

It won't save Wii U, but it'll keep the system moving enough to at least stay on shelves another year.

I had totally forgotten about the 3rd Neptunia game coming out this month so was quite pleasantly surprised when it arrived :D My collection is complete.

Wonder how the Gundam Breaker 2 numbers will be next week, considering it was sold out all over the place for a short period of time.

You know, this year isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Everything is declining, but it isn't as steep as I'd assumed it would be. Not to say that everything else outside of 3DS is doing good, but I expected much worse.

Ever since Renesas Electronics's firm building the WiiU's internal got shut down (ironically it was bought out by Sony after that), have we ever heard that anyone else has actually took over that place? Chances are Nintendo still isn't making any new WiiU units..

Afaik they haven't manufactured a single one in 2014 - with the last WiiU's manufactured in Q1 2013 when it was still unclear how the WiiU would fare.

Imo they could produce a second batch of 2-3 million wiiu's at a cheaper price - and try to cost-cut as much as they can (be it with a smaller gamepad or chips/memory reworking).

Afaik people deducted it from the financial reports in some older threads? It's at least reasonable to assume/possible they ordered the same amount of consoles.

Nintendo had more than enough stock to last them several months (even without the mediocre Wii U sales), and I doubt they haven't found another company to replace RE.

We probably haven't heard about it because it's nothing really major.

Well the original plan was also to sell Gamepads separately and allow multi-Gamepad games. I sort of doubt they produced 10 million consoles upfront too.

I still remember when some people argued ''nobody'' would buy the 3DS version of Smash :3

Good to see Vita beastmodeing in the holidays. Here's to a good 2015.

Every week these sales threads provide provide me with much needed laughter. So much linear math happening it gets embaracing. Without fail gaffers are act like pre-teens did on music sales in the 80s & 90s. Just looking for big numbers from their favorite artist. Not caring about any tangible financial data just the numerical placement on a chart.

Numbers have no value if you do not do research to understand their context.

Great first week for FFE.

Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) 1,875,115

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS) 471,055
God Eater 2 (PSV) 258,856
Freedom Wars (PSV) 187,890
Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS) 163,844
Toukiden: Age of Demons (PSV) 127,744
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (WU) 110,149
Phantasy Star Nova (PSV) 107,638
Soul Sacrifice (PSV) 105,863
Toukiden Extreme (PSV) 100,073
While these are good numbers, why did we have a giant conversation about major missed potential and serious future franchise damage by not releasing every hunting action game on 3DS?

I mean this pretty much seems in line with what's been happening for non-MH entries in the genre, and that's without even listing the PSP versions versus FFEX only coming out on one platform so it didn't have 30%+ of its sales split off.

Actually, i would think there's a high chance for a Gamepad redesign but not a console one.

Is not like Nintendo would need to invest a significant amount of R&D to alter the design. Even withouth the use of any new components they could stream line the shel substantially. There's a lot of empty space in the front of the controller and looking at the tear downs there's also inside.

i don't think they should go with a smaller screen as some people suggest since there are functional reasons not to do that.

They are basically just splitting sales to more systems, with added development and production costs to boot. Especially in Japan a recent example is Samurai Chronicle Warriors 3 and it´s even more apparent when it´s on the same company "familysytems" environment, where the overlap of the audience is likely even more apparent. In general not a weird thing to do, but when it´s in favour of such bad selling systems, there really is no real advantage for the publishers themselves right now, when it comes to software specifically aimed for the local market.
I think that they are thinking more in the long term, thinking that its not a good business decision to keep making games for an old system for a very long time. A lot of people will get tired of it eventually and then they want new hardware. Consoles are here to stay, after all. It might be declining fast, but Nintendo and Sony will make at least one more console, i'm 100% confident in that. It wouldnt surprise me if even Microsoft tries again in Japan (a new product means a new opportunity, generally speaking). Its also in 3rd parties best interest to have more options where to put their games.

If they think that making multiplatform games isnt worth it at all, i'm sure that they will re-evaluate it. But they cant know for sure before they have tried. Samurai Warriors Chronicles 4, for example, might be an exclusive game, depeding on how the publisher felt about the sales of Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3, who knows.

That is a good point. I think it shows that it comes more down to a game to game basis and doesnt necessarily have that much to do with the systems themself.

If you're referring the conversation about franchises moving to the 4DS FFEx exploding in popularity was presented as a hypothetical situation. I was always quite down on FFEx, because honestly I think it looks a bit rubbish.

Unstoppable.

Actually a revision with a smaller and more ergonomic touch controller could benefit sales.

I see this happening after the initial 10 million is sold through.

Far as I am aware, there was a 10 million Gamepad deal, not console. The console is its own thing from a different producer and under a different contract.

I'd imagine they are close to the 10 million Gamepads from repairs and such, and the general WWide sales. So some time next year, if they start producing more WiiUs, I'd be shocked to see them produced with the same bulky Gamepad. In fact a more streamlined pad could also be resold as an updated accessory to existing users and would introduce a nice price cut. Right now the screen size and the transceiver are the biggest price-tags but the screen, at least, can be reduced significantly in price but the transceiver is a bit fixed though a new production run will likely be cheaper due to general tech-value depreciation.

I saw and keep seeing Sony doing many things for Vita in Japan. The system isn't on auto pilot and selling alone.
What are they doing?

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just can't think of anything at all. Is there a single first party title in production at the moment?

I think taking a product like FFE as being exemplary of genre potential on 3DS is bit foolish. We came to a similar conclusion with PSNova being an indictment on the state of Vita for almost identical reasons (bad demo, low preorders, other games overperforming comparably). I guess it remains to be seen if FFE crashes like Nova did in the coming weeks, but my guess is it probably will since it's evidently not a very good game.

What are they doing?

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just can't think of anything at all. Is there a single first party title in production at the moment?

I can't either- they basically seem to have abandoned the console. For me, this point was driven home by PSX, where they excitedly said "long live the Vita" and how there was going to be support for it with "7 NEW TITLES!!!", which turned out to be ports of old games and games going multi-platform. If that's the best they are doing, then the console is definitely not worth it.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
13./13. [WIU] Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker <ADV> (Nintendo) {2014.11.13} (¥3.996) - 20.376 / 100.886 (+39%)

Many said the title wouldn't reach 100k

Never doubt the power of Captain Kinopio.

Good debut for Final Fantasy Explorers - a better start than I expected.

Pokemon's performance is slightly disappointing for me; I thought it would have reached 3 mil by year-end. Still a good performance nonetheless with 2.5-2.6 by year-end.

I think it's possible 3DS does see an increase in Week 1 next year.
This year was the only time it didn't, and with new hardware and bigger games at the end of the year, many kids might be spending their New Year money on it.

Glad to see Captain Toad selling well but sad to see that it will surpass hyrule warriors or dkong or bayonetta sales so easily..

And wii u will surely have a big price drop these months.
They need to do it or they will never surpass the gc number

In my opinion, focusing on 3DS decline is just a cheap talk; the system is heading towards 18m units, of course it's going to decline; it's a product in its maturity phase, it peaked with YTDs that were only behind the DS', and it's the only healthy platform in Japan software-wise.
