NFL Offseason Thread |OT3| The Long Wait

of course its gone. sharing was kind of a "yeah we know we are butt fucking you on this but... here's a little something for your troubles". but still great news for everyone INCLUDING sony/ps4 fans because competition is never a bad thing. if MS continued with their old policy they would have been absolutely slaughtered by ps4/sony. maybe not this fall, but in the long term it would not have been close.
Tell that to yankee. I ain't the one bitchin' about it.

Great day for all gamers. But bundling the Kinect for an extra $100 will still put PS4 on top in the USA, IMO.

MS is banking on Kinect being a long term benefit to justify the higher price like Sony did with Blu Ray and the PS3, but I still don't think they realize its a gimmick casual gamers will get tired of, and hardcore gamers don't give a shit about.

Hopefully MS can come to their senses and release a separate SKU for $399 without the worthless Kinect.

Fuck all of you guys who make London Jaguars jokes. We stayin'! We stayin'!

Send the damn Chargers or Bucs already.

When are you and Gata throwing the party?

Yes please.

Kotaku further confirms sharing is gone.

"There’s a few things we won’t be able to deliver as a result of this change," Marc Whitten, v.p. of Xbox Live told Kotaku, "One of the things we were very exicted about was 'wherever we go my games are always with me.' Now, of course your physical games won’t show up that way. The games you bought digitally will. You’ll have to bring your discs with you to have your games with you. Similarly, the sharing library [is something] we won’t be able to deliver at launch."

I like the voice stuff, at least in theory. But there's no reason there couldn't just be a mic somewhere. Sadly, I think they are far too committed on Kinect to ever backtrack. They really do believe in the social stuff, and think you may want to video chat while you play games

And I think this also matters,. MS has promised dedicated servers for all games. Don't think Sony has committed to that. Though there was a DICE interview where it seemed like EA was still going to force it's stupid tunnel thing and host its own games

Being as MS trolled us so long with this DRM stuff, we should reverse troll them and have this huge outrage demanding DRM and sharing be put back. Rinse and repeat

...but Kinect!

Microsoft removing that shit ball camera and doing a $399 sku would be amazing. I'd get both at launch if that were the case.

Kotaku saying a day one patch is needed to reverse the DRM makes me think it's too late to reverse course on the Kinect. I hate the thing, but I just can't see them abandoning it

... then you're left with a weaker PS4. Great value proposition, especially when many people don't buy 2 consoles.

Sometimes I think gamers deserve the Wii U. At least with Nintendo you can rest assured that they won't try to take any step forward.

I mean, yes, of course DRM and always on could be things that make me NOT buy a Xbone. A good Kinect integration and game sharing on the other hand are things that could MAKE me buy something.

I'd rather have a weaker, cheaper PS4 than be forced to buy Kinect.

I think MS had the right idea, but was too early. Losing the ability to play your whole library w/o a disk was cool. Sharing games was cool. In 3 or 4 years we'll miss those things. So now they have a PS4 that's more expensive, has less power, Kinect that no one wants, and a useless Live TV feature in a world where everyone timeshifts

Except if they do that doesn't it mean the Kinect will not be supported in most games?

I've never owned a kinect but I think It would be interesting if it was standard for every system.

This nonsense about power and who has more of it needs to stop. It's utterly meaningless in the reality of multi-platform games as differences are likely to be minimal considering that both are so utterly comparable from a hardware perspective. First party titles will take advantage of hardware power and I'm confident that Sony have engineered a good solid device with a unified memory pool that will allow them to crank out quality, good looking first party content.

I've owned every console in every generation of gaming that I can remember. I'll invariably own an Xbox One when I deem it worth its value for my wallet. Whenever I do buy it, I'm sure I'll get about as much use out of that garbage camera as I did when I owned a Kinect for the 360: None. The Kinect camera isn't a value proposition to me. It holds ZERO value.

Oh and TV integration is fucking meaningless to me as well. I have a Smart TV that does exactly what I need (Netflix, Amazon, etc.). I buy a game console for games.

The DRM stuff? It wasn't ever going to kill Microsoft long term. This is yet another reactionary move from a company that's been nothing but reactionary since the PS4 unveil. That $100 price difference is far more important.

Except if they do that doesn't it mean the Kinect will not be supported in most games?
I'm struggling to wonder how this is a bad thing.

Goddamnit I had a long reply to squicken ready to post but GAF crashed and I lost the post I guess.

TD;LR: Kinect will be important to a small amount of people for Skype, but the vast majority of gamers, casual and hardcore, could care less about it and as to why it should be included in the SKU for $100 more.

MS would be better off selling the Kinect separately, and launching at $399. The $100 price difference will give Sony the head start it needs in the USA. Japan and the EU are obvious locks for Sony at this point.

What is good Kinect integration? Almost everything MS has shown with X1 and Kinect has little to do with gaming. MS has already proved that they have absolutely no idea what to do with Kinect as far as practical gaming applications.

Gamers proved with the Wii that they don't like change.

Don't think I am a defender of that poop. Who wants a camera in their living room? I'm in my boxers by 8 most evenings, and anyone chatting with me would be getting barn door malfunctions. I'm putting a piece of tape over that thing the day I get it.

I just think they are stuck with it. If it's not included, then devs can't rely on it being there, and no one would use it. So they would have spent God knows how much on a useless peripheral.

Not sure we're on the same page here. I meant the Xbone is a weaker version of the PS4 if they take out everything that differentiates.

I dunno, I've said it several times before, I guess that I'm just not much of a gamer anymore. The things that excite me don't seem to excite the average Gaffer and vice versa. Sure, eventually I'll cave and buy one of those consoles for graphics alone, but in the meantime I'd prefer to see some new stuff. A shitty, non-game Kinect demo that lets me play around with the sensor input and the analytics sounds more exciting to me at this point than another MGS or FF.

Regardless of the privacy issue, Deacon hit the nail on the head. They have yet to prove any honest to goodness gaming application for it. Years on from the release of the Kinect Dance Central is the only dedicated Kinect game worth a shit for it and it holds little interest for me.

Even more amusing is that two games that were originally Kinect focused that are now making their way to the Xbox One have dropped that focus and are now controller based titles (Ryse and Crimson Dragon). So yeah, no value for me. None.

My bad. Totally misunderstood you there! I understand what you're getting at there but the games should differentiate you. If you spend a billion dollars on first party development - that should be the differentiating factor and for me that's where Sony has always been stronger and why I've chosen a PS4 along with that $100 price difference.

Damn! Microsoft reversing course faster than that time Josh Freeman strayed too close to the salad bar.

Stick to your guns, yankee. You did solid work and should demand your payment. If you need to litigate, I know a good lawyer. Dial 1-877-bionic77 and choose option 3. (Option 1 is the Tim Tebow fantasy abstinence hotline, option 2 is the Magic Johnson magic johnson hotline.)

P.S. I'll miss you, infinitely powered clowds!

And to add to that. I don't like Kinect. It's gimmicky.

No, he doesn't.

Remember that super-scripted demo where you could be playing a game, get an invite for another game, begin matchmaking by just tabbing over? That's gone now that the UI can't assume the game is digital. It may be a net win but it's not a total win

I don't care. It could have had an automated robot arm use a built-in Fleshlight to jerk you off while you play, and it still wouldn't have been worth the DRM bullshit.

Also CliffyB is getting told.

...

Someone should make a real next generation console.

Another thing we lost was if you had managed to find a cheap XB1 disk you could have installed it and it would have treated it just like if you had downloaded the game. Now it will treat physical as something different. Next gen really is just going to be this gen with more power. It is totally up to Nintendo to save us now.

I really dont think any company ever will again. Keep things the same lest customers get confused and angry.

So happy about the XBO news. I'm also completely shocked, I didn't think for a second MS would budge on this stuff, especially to this extent and before the thing even launches. I'll probably pick one up at some point down the road now, although I don't think it'll be within the next 3 years. I'm still going PS4 at launch, though.

Online will play a massive role in the coming generation, just look at all the online focused games shown at E3 (many by third party devs like The Division and Destiny). Losing the DRM won't change that.

I hope you are right. XB1 devs are going to have to consider that people will play their games offline now. I wonder if that will affect the online stuff that MS has been pimping so far.

Or somehow figure out how to innovate without fucking over your users. One of those.

The old system was Steam with a dumb 24 hour check. All they needed to do was ditch that. MS bungled the roll out but they have the right idea about the future of how we buy and consume games
