Nintendo wants mature games & JP 3rd parties slow to react

Would explain the two senran games Switch is getting.

No More Heroes having a spotlight at Nindies was nice too.

Well, Senran Kagura coming to Switch isn't a big shock to begin with, as the series started on the 3DS and has been successful on there alongside the arguably better known Playstation installments.

No, they did not.

It's a little bit complicated, as officially speaking, Rare published it themselves in the US, but since they had no means of distributing any of their games, Nintendo did have to distribute it. NoA were even the ones that came up with the big warning on the package to make sure that parents understood that it wasn't another Banjo-Kazooie-like game.

It did get weird in Europe, though, since NoE did straight up decline to publish the game, which was then picked up by THQ.

"The software lineup for the Switch includes “Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon,” an action role-playing game featuring lightly clothed female characters; “Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura,” a game primarily for the Japanese market that allows players to massage young women; and “Doom,” a bloody shoot-’em-up game."

As someone not thrilled with the switch lineup thus far, this sound fucking awful.

After Mario I'm at a loss with this thing.

Aside from reduced portability, battery life, and Nintendo's backwards account system...

this really sounds like something taken from shitposting

Maybe it makes third parties reluctant to work with a publisher that censors their own releases on the regular.

again, sources taken from shitposting

Well, you can have a game about mature subject matter without an M rating... FFT and Growlanser for instance.

and again, confusing jargons

like literally, when business people say "mature" they're talking about ratings

If they didn't self censor their own games I think more people would believe this. As it stands, I think a cautious wait and see approach is best. One would hope they would lead by example.

Actually I think they were going to skip Switch completely, but Nintendo asked Marvelous for it. Takaki received the devkit soon and yet the two "games" they have for it are a pinball game and a digital only visual novel tech demo that isn't even canon. The mainline entries are all PS exclusive.

But yes, I do think the difference between pre-Switch Nintendo and the company now is that they're being more aggressive and asking for mature games.

I really believe Retro's game is a new AAA FPS/TPS IP too.

NoA censoring Nintendo games has zero to do with NCL wanting more mature third-parties on board.

There's really not a lot announced for 2018 in general, including from Nintendo. That will change obviously once this heavy-loaded holiday is over.

But if you're really prioritising M rated games (particularly from 3rd parties) I'd say make sure you've got an eBay account and you might as well take your picture of the system now really for when you complete Mario and/or DOOM.

I just want Retro to make a fantasy action rpg :p

I do hope the mature fare sticks through this time. Started strong on WiiU and then fizzled out until Bayo and Devils Third.

This is a weird thread... Maybe it's just the NoA2 picture in the OP confusing people?

Anyway this seems like it's been a goal of Nintendo's since the Wii U days with games they published like Bayonetta 2 and Devil's Third. Hopefully it helps remove that SNES stigma that we can even see residuals of in this very thread.

Oh, you mean like how Nintendo fams used to shit on the Vita and it's games? But now they want their new machine to be a Vita? They used to call the games "creepy" and "cringeworthy" but now can't wait for them to be on the Switch. Hypocrites!

I mean I do dislike vita's cheesecake game, but I'm also into industry analysis and recognize there's a market for it. They'd be a good get for nintendo, but I have no interest in playing them. Also people seem t only be half reading the article, it's not just about Japanese fan service games, but mature rated games in general. It's how we got doom and wolfenstein in the west, and I'm sure they asked 3rd parties about other games that didn't pan out.

This should be a lead by example moment. Nintendo can make a more mature game from one of their franchises or just from a new IP. Show third parties that there is a market for those types of games to build confidence (in cases where third parties still see there only being a "kiddie game" market on the switch).

I wonder if that's what Retro is up to.

"Watch me pick up hookers and shoot random people in the face!"

GTA is one of the last M-rated games I'd call 'mature.'
You can also play it by following traffic laws and helping people who get mugged.

Either way it's a hell of a lot more mature than Anime tiddy.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2?

Or are we looking at a different criteria for mature?

OMG, stop with this Vita talk, I would thought Vita fans would accept reality in 2012.

About the news, it is a good thing, Nintendo needs to expand their portfolio and japanese 3rd parties need to expand their niche. Staying PC/Playstation exclusive will only hurt them.

Why is this even a thing? How is the Switch at all like the Vita?

It's a high-end portable, much like the Vita in it's time. Because of it being a hybrid, all the cross-play stuff the Vita had is inherently there, and it'll probably be easy for the Switch to attract both Japanese and indie devs who made games for the Vita.

Seems like the only thing people can come up with to counter the similarities are "The Switch has sales!"

What are you even whining about? What's the problem with people comparing the Switch to another console that they viewed favorably?

To be honest, he's saying the truth (and we all know this) but it's also impossible to find every users who shitted on Vita games in every Vita/non-Vita threads...
... so your answer to his comment is useless, as the Jaded comment itself.

(Useless as my comment too, posted in a Switch thread and quickly forgotten, I know)

I got one more. The Switch has first party support. While Sony largely ignored the Vita, part of the reason Nintendo made the Switch was so they wouldn't have to split their teams between handheld and home console anymore.

The problem is that it always end in 3 groups discussing the same thing over and over again:
Vita and Switch fans that want Switch to be Vita 2
Vita fans that will say that Vita is better and doesn't want the comparison
Switch fans that will say that Switch is better and doesn't want the comparison.

The first group isn't annoying but it attracts the other groups and derails the conversation.

My point is, he is claiming that the same people who shit on the Vita are the same people comparing Switch to the Vita AND asking for Vita-like games. All of whom are Nintendo fans apparently.

So the only pointless thing here was his post as he has no way of knowing/proving his comment.

I don't think I have ever once seen this supposed group.

No one's saying that the Switch is exactly like the Vita. I like it because it has the Vita's best qualities combined with Nintendo's first party.

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
Yes I agree with famitsu
Third party are slow and will probably arrive too late, with few and too small projects

We have that in this exact same thread.
Either way this is stupid and have nothing to do with the news. The important thing is that Nintendo needs to improve their mature content, if that was content was on Vita or not it doesn't matter.

Uuhhh I don't see many people eagerly awaiting those games tbh. And if there are some people I doubt they are the same as the people calling those games creepy. But it's easier to think of Nintendo fans as some crazy hypocritical entity for the sake of console warz i guess.
