A lot of people here looking for disc drives... I found mine at my local Walmart and a stand just right there in the case no problem. Even checked yesterday and there was another in there. Not sure where you guys are looking or if I may just be the extreme minority and lucky but check Walmarts or even Walmart online to see.

Get a ethernet cable. Regardless, Sony are idiots when it comes to networking.

The fact that I can download 100s of gigabytes faster from a remote server versus Sonys slow ass solution transferring data across local devices within the same WiFi.
Man you weren’t kidding.

I woke up this morning and it was done with about 80GB out of 480GB and showed 28 HOURS remaining. Diablo 4 was ready to play so I started that, then the data transfer failed shortly after.

I moved the mesh router close enough to connect them via LAN and restarted the data transfer, now it’s blazing. About 1 hour to transfer all the rest. Looks like it’s transferring 120 MB/s which would mean it’s maxing out the gigabit Ethernet.

What a joke.

We just came from a local WalMart and there were 3 disc drives in the case there as well.

A fine console and feels next gen with those graphics. Finally 4k at 60fps.

Why the hell did I buy it? Disc drives are sold out everywhere. 99% of my games are physical. The thing is still not even unboxed. But I bought ps + after a long time, maybe there is something interesting there.

Demon’s Souls, Ratchet and Clank, Dead Island 2 and Spider-Man MM are on the service I believe, and have been patched, so it isn’t a complete disaster.

It's the European folks having difficulty right now finding one.

AW, still looks horrible on console. Out of everything I tried it’s the most disappointing thing. Not sure what’s going on there. It seems like. Remedy is overrated.

Well, I don't agree. Ps5 pro is THE reason why I did not get a gaming PC. The gap is narrower than ever and does not compensate the loss of convenience and easiness of the console. But to each his choice 😀.

I'm not in to PC gaming but the Pro isn't going to trouble the Master Race. It hardly feels like a major upgrade over the base PS 5 at the mo.

I love how light the unit is mind and F1 2024 does look awesome.

I'm definitely loving the Pro!

- Setup was great, I removed my m.2 from my launch PS5, popped it into the Pro and away I went, easy stuff
- Love the look of the console itself. Compact and sleek, very nice
- The Pro-only dynamic background was a nice surprise, looks fucking cool, I just wish there was a way to hide the UI so I could see it better
- Tried out F1 '24 and Demon's Souls, both of which look stunning. Especially DS in Pro mode, everything just pops

- Only negative so far - Dragon Age Veilguard. You have to run it in Performance mode, Fidelity chugs like a motherfucker.

Shows that people want disc drive in their consoles. Physical games are much better deal.
Speaking of that I have a scoop from here, in Spain. The major video game retailer here, Game, has given orders not to sell any disk drive until the stock of Pro consoles are sold out. They likely have the biggest stock of them all and that’s why there are none anywhere. Not a big deal if you buy the console since you can buy them one and have the disk but for buyers of the 30th anniversary let us a few weeks starving. I hope stock is back to normal by the 21th.

So odd with Veilguard. That game runs like butter on PC. Isn't there an official PS5 Pro patch imminent though?

Turning PSSR on in GoW has a bigger performance drop than I was expecting. I hope future titles allow the user the choice between using PSSR or the standard upscaling. It has me worried we might actually get ps5 games that perform worst on the Pro verses the base model due to bad implementations.

I just checked Very (UK) to see if they had any disk drives in stock, and I noticed that they do, but are only selling them in Pro bundles. The feckers.

Anyone tried Space Marine 2?

Yeah. Someone said in the list thread that it was better but still not perfect. It needs a patch ASAP.

I think that would be me :messenger_beaming:

Played 2 co-op missions yesterday and the framerate IS higher, meaning, it doesn't run at a fookin' constant 40-45fps (or lower) when things get hectic anymore.
I don't have any measuring tools besides my 45year old eye experience® when it comes to framerate but it feels like it's 60fps 90% of the time with some drops to the low 50s (i'd wager it's about 52-53-55fps) when shit really hits the fan.
Tried it with VRR both on and off ("Enable VRR for unsupported games") and i think that it's still better with it off.

Cheers

This mention of fan noise is giving me the shudders, I had a PS4Pro and that thing still gives me nitemare using it and I absolutely love the whisper quietness of the PS5, FFS Sony... Anyone tried any VR games on it? Any noticeable jumps?

Some games really do look a lot better from what I can see from YT vids with the bitrate and all that. However, not impressive enough to buy a console for €800 euros and disc drive for another €120. Not to mention the stand, which you might not need, but is better for airflow.

No rush to buy this if ever, tbh.

It's a PS5 but better graphics.

So if a PS5 is a 9, pro is a 10.

The PS5 Pro cannot rate lower than PS5.

If you say you should consider the price upon reviewing the game system, I would say no, no you clearly shouldn't.

When I go to the store to buy a steak I can buy super shitty steak for 1 dollar or I can buy the high end stuff for 100 dollars(or more) a steak.

In what world could one possibly rate the cheap steak with a higher numerical score than the expensive steak, just because it costs less but tastes good for the price? I think Gordon Ramsey would like to have a word with you.

Just because something is good for the money or bad for them money doesn't change the absolute fact that every working PS5 Pro is in every way superior to every working PS5, and thus is a better machine without exception. If you can personally afford it or not is not relevant.

The quality will be remembered long after the price is forgotten, and the value will increase with every single new game that releases on the console. By the end of the gen buying a vanilla PS5 will sound quaint. We are PS5 now.

DF was right. The image quality in Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West in performance mode is just insane. I've never seen anything like it. PS App seems to only have jpgs, not the original PNGs - is there a way to get those besides copying to a flash drive? It looks even better than this in person, especially in HDR:

Now, I'm curious. In GOW:R, there is a toggle for PSSR or standard TAA. Has anyone else done much comparison? I tested them briefly, and it seems to me like TAA was actually better. There was some swimming/temporal instability in PSSR that I did not see with TAA, and I didn't really notice any benefit to the upscale quality of PSSR. I did notice some slight disocclusion smearing with TAA - maybe PSSR is better about that, I didn't test.

PSSR also had a fairly significant performance cost. TAA ran at around 110-120fps, while PSSR was more in the 90-100fps range. A lot heavier than I would have expected.

I wonder if part of it has to do with the fact that the base resolution is already very high - strong upscaling isn't really needed, the TAA is more than good enough and I'd rather have the extra performance. PSSR is maybe better for lower base resolutions.

So, I bought it hoping for an out from my gaming PC because I'd prefer console convenience and access and a few other reasons. My PC is a 4090-based dedicated living room gaming PC.

My son and I spent a while with the Pro last night. We played a couple worlds in Ratchet and some Spider-Man and more. Looked at some PS4 games with the sharpening on, like Batman: Arkham Knight which I recently beat on PC. The Pro looks nice and runs great. Best console yet, for sure. But as we were playing, it still was in my mind that we are not close enough to the PC's fidelity as I hoped we might be. My son fired up Minecraft, and he's like "I don't think I like it" on the Pro based on PC being able to give more FoV. He's like "I'm too close, like being in front of my character instead of being my character".

So, then we did some A/B back and forth and confirmed that position. I think we both ended in the mindset to return the Pro and keep going with the PC.

No harm, no foul, no hard feelings. The Pro is certainly the best console yet. I think I just need to accept that I prefer to be a PC gamer when I weigh the trade-offs of each decision because I value visual fidelity and performance so much. I know folks will say, just keep both. I really don't want to do that though.

I'll experiment some more and take my time. I have like two months to return it. Maybe we'll Platinum Astrobot 2 for fun, but then we'll see.

Honestly it sounds like you don't like the pro because I assume Minecraft doesn't have a fov slider on console.

FOV is very important and can actually cause that exact thing, but it is caused by the Microsoft software you are playing and not the console. Many console games do have FOV sliders.

What specific game looked better on PC? Did it have a pro patch yet?

One note, the stand sucks ass. It’s wobbly.
The stand is rotten shit, I could complain about the stand all day long. You are 100% correct. Worst part of the console. Way worse vertical stand than PS5 and cheap components in the stand and the soft screw we are suppsed to hand/coin tighten but will not cinch up because the stand is the washer and it is thick plastic. Stand is rot shit, no lie.

I'm worried if the console gets twisted while on the stand the 2 little clips what index it will snap off and then you have chaos.

Performance drop with PSSR? I think you might be confused

For those curious. You can rest the Pro on the original PS5 stand (the black one). You can't screw it on (screw doesn't go all the way in) but it rests on it perfectly fine for vertical use.

Looks better too.

I had a PS4 Pro and that thing sounded like a 747 taking off with certain games. How is the noise level on the PS5 Pro?

Still have my OG PS5 for now....

I can't tell any difference between performance and fidelity either way. Took some shots....

That's good to know, I didn't spend much time with it last night as I wanted to try other games, but when I play it again I'll switch to Performance and keep it there.
Thanks for taking the time to do that.

Of course the price must be included in the review just as it is included in every headphone, car, house and computer review.

These system for people who have money to burn.

For me I can’t justify spending close to $1000 for slightly upgrade version of a console I already own and doesn’t come with basic feature like a fucking disc drive.
I’m thankful it wasn’t available right away or my fomo would have gotten me. Spending $1000 to replay games I’ve already played at 10 more fps is foolish.

DJ12 DJ12 I've just been doing some more noise testing. I ran your HZD Remastered in VRR Pro Performance mode for some time and also revisited Uncharted 4 unlocked fidelity mode, 120hz VRR. HZD was so very quiet - I had to move my head to within a meter to hear a soft woosh. Uncharted was a little bit louder. But basically mine is just as quiet as my OG PS5. i have to be within a meter and I have to have no sounds at all to be able to hear anything. And when I tested the heat coming out the back its actually noticeably cooler.

I do have mine horizontal as mentioned. But it has loads of space both in front of it and behind it.
